A Little Dissappointed, but it is Gorgeous
The Eremo is beautiful and almost worth its price. The grounds are kept up well and restored to perfection. There is some construction going on bu we were only there 1 night and were not distrubed by the work going on. Breakfast was superb and the staff is very professional and accomadating. We were greeted in our room by a gift of special wine from the hotel, which was a nice touch. All is clean and new and the bathrroms are a good size. The pool area is so serene and pretty. I've never seen anything like it. Now for the downside, the... more
Management response from DirezioneEremo

Dear Tripadvisor Member, in reference to your dissatisfaction concerning your stay at Eremo della Giubiliana, I would like to apologise for the unpleasant experience. The air conditioning problem was due to a low power output from the electrical system, after some costly renovations this problem has now been resolved. The smell in the bathroom is caused from the natural oils in the antic flooring, which is called pitch stone, this type of flooring was quite common place in the early 15th century and due to the age of the Eremo and the fact that this is part of the original structure, the black color of the stone floors found here today are the by-product of the before mentioned oils, its these oils that have preserved the stone floors for over five centuries. In regards to the price, the rooms at the Eremo Della Giubiliana are comparable with the current market for luxury five star hotel in Italy, just as they were during the time period of your stay. I’ll be very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome you to Eremo della Giubiliana in the next future and, I remain at your disposal, best regards, Rosario Rubino general manager

Stay away for at least a year
When we booked, we were told that only the stone cottages, which face the runway, were available and so that is what we booked. When we arrived, we were told that a stone cottage was not available so they had upgraded us to a junior suite. The suite--which was nothing more than a medium-large room--had construction work with jackhammers going on directly outside. The stone cottages were more basic than the hotel rooms, but at least were quiet. When we asked for a room away from the jackhammers, we were told that none was available. We... more
Lovely property
I stayed at the Eremo on 22 September 2006, only a couple of days before the previous reviewer. I was perfectly happy with my stay. I did not notice any bad smell. The building work was not carried out at inappropriate hours (and as it was directly outside my room, I would know). My room was quaint and charming, and I loved the historic atmosphere of the property. The garden was particularly attractive. I had a great dinner in the restaurant (indoors). The wine made on the estate was great and I was even given a free bottle in my... more
El Paso on the Eremo
We were greeted by the smell of bottled gas or sewage (I was never sure which) and that alone should have warned us of more disappointment to come. The building and grounds are beautiful, meant to be serene and country perfect. Too bad then that the men with the jackhammers continued to work until after six P.M., despite repeated requests from us and several other guests for quiet. We were booked in for two days and I started to panic when we went down for dinner and found that we had to eat outside on wet chair on a damp lawn in the dark.... more
great stay but a few details not quit right
We stayed here for a week with our two children aged 12 and 8. We generally had a great time and stayed in their grand suite which had a lounge with a room off for the kids and small bathroom, then our main bedroom upstairs with bathroom - only complaint with the room was that there was no where to sit outside privately and no windows so no view. The room was lovely, however with many old antiques. The meals in the hotel were great, we loved the food and eating in the beautiful gardens in the evening was very atmospheric, they... more
Amazing staff and absolutely lovely hotel
The Eremo is simply amazing. My husband and I decided to get married in Ragusa and the Eremo staff did an amazing job helping two Americans through Italian beurocracy. They also helped with flower arrangements, the wedding cake, pressing our wedding finery and getting hair and make-up done for the wedding party. We could not have gotten married without the help of the Eremo (Viviana and Margarita specifically). The best part of our stay was the candle-lit reception they gave us after the vows were said. The appitizers, pumpkin risotto,... more
extraordinary stay
it is like to enter into the past- everything is nice- the food is like italian home made- don't miss this hotel
nice choice
This was the most elegant hotel we stayed at on our recent 3-week visit to Italy, and the physical layout within the walls is very nice indeed, though the surrounding landscape is not particularly attractive by Sicily standards. The hotel itself was clean, quiet, comfortable and very relaxing. The staff was very helpful, and we especially appreciated their advice to book Il Duomo in Ragusa, the best restaurant we found on the trip. We also enjoyed our day at their “private beach” - it was almost empty with zero tourist types entirely!... more
A fabulous place..
We stayed here April 22-24, 2004. This is a place that you could stay for a week, if you just wanted a place to kick back and enjoy yourself. It is several miles out of town. There is a main estate/winery that has a great restaurant and where there are beautiful grounds and rooms. I didn't see the size of the rooms, but because it is a restored villa, I assume that they are of varying sizes. We stayed across the road in some new individual cottages that have just been built. The are built right on the edge of the owners air landing... more
Excellent Hotel
This is a completely restored 15th-century monastery in the countryside south of Ragusa. We stayed here for three nights with our 17-month-old son. The sense of security and exclusivity begins when you arrive at the gate and announce yourself. The gate swings open and you drive forward to be greeted by very friendly and impeccably dressed young staff in black suits. They'll park your car for you and bring your luggage to your room. The downstairs hall of this small hotel is lovely for socialising and we met a number of couples with whom we... more
