Su Gologone Hotel

We have just returned from three nights at this Hotel and can report that the waitresses were most efficient and polite. Any previous problems not evident. More importantly however, our stay at Su Golgone was incredibly relaxing, soothed by the stunning moun tain landscape and birdsong. The cuisine was excellent, (very rustic if that's your bag) but if not, the extensive buffet more than compensates. We stayed half/board in vary spacious room with shared terrace and wonderful view of the mountains.These rooms only have showers which are excellent. There were slight problems with the wasps and flies when terrace door left open.The reception staff were wonderful and couldnt do enough to help. When visiting the caves and mountains etc take the organised trip as the track is very rough and some of the trails unmarked. The food was overall good and of traditional standard. We spent four nights at Su Gologone in October 2005 and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting excellent Italian food in a beautifully located hotel. We had one night in a junior suite which had a great view over the mountains and a private balcony. For the other three nights we were in a deluxe room with a vast terrace shared with other rooms - again with fabulous views of the mountains. Overall I think I would stay again, but only if they guaranteed the following - Heated pool: it was large, but icy cold - No swarms of wasps at breakfast - A hot jacussi (it was cold) - A suite (Euros 240) with a view next time (I requested a view last time and was not given one having been told that it would have a view)

This hotel will not appeal to everyone (eg. our friend from NH; I've attached a photo of the dining room so readers can see how horrible it is). Don't come here if you want gourmet Italian cuisine/fine Italian wines, to be on the beach, or if you're not prepared to speak a word of Italian to the staff. The food is very traditional and good. Enormous pool within a beautiful garden, great views, and a very kind staff. We stayed one night before heading to the Northern Coast for the beach and were very happy we made the detour. I sensed from other guests there that they, too, were very pleased with the hotel. Su Gologone and it's location gives one great insight into the non-touristed areas of the Island. Only complaint: the beds were some of the firmest (hardest) on the planet.

Located about 45 minutes from the coast, this tremendous Restaurant / Hotel will help you experience the true Sardinia. The setting of the hotel is beautiful. The staff was very accomodating and the rooms were clean. We had booked a room with a terrace, which we thought was going to be private. However, it was shared with the other rooms on the floor, which was a disappointment. The buffet breakfast was terrific. We couldn't agree more with the author of the first review of Su Gologone. It is one of the very few hotels that, in many years of travel, we would love to return to and recommend whole-heartedly to all our friends looking for somewhere special. There was nothing precious - despite having an ex president of Italy with entourage and six bodyguards there at the same time. Un-stuffy with wonderful service, fabulous food, large rooms etc.

I had planned a ten day trip to Sardinia & after having read a review on another website, decided to spend a couple of nights at Su Gologone. I was thrilled. The drive is only two hours from Alghero - and well worth it. After a beautiful drive, we finally turned a corner to see a magnificent mountain rearing up before us.
