view and peace & quiet
Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!. I can not stress enough how much we loved this hotel. Our stayed here was perfect from the moment that we arrived. When we got there our room was not ready (can' remember if we got there too early or if they were late, probably the first) but it did not make any difference, we received the most warm and professional reception. Sofia took care of our luggage & organised cold drinks for us at the main terrace next to the pool. We waited there not longer than 20 mins (although, we could have waited longer... more
stunning place to stay
We stayed at the caldera villas for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon. What a place, the rooms are beautifully decorated .The apartment that we had is better than the pictures, was clean and fresh, bed comfy and bathroom spotless! The hotel has only a few units so it's pretty quiet. The pool is awesome. Everything is so clean & crisp and decorated beautifully and the kitchen has everything you could need. Other than just the fridge, stove it was stocked with dishes, pots, utensils, and more ! The hotel is right off the road but... more
Best small hotel we'experienced in Europe
What a shame to read the negative review from Dec 27/2006 - that is certainly not the place that we stayed on Aug 1st! We loved Caldera villas and I echo everything from the August 16th/2006 review -It is small with just 14 rooms around the pool, so a disruptive neighbor could spoil the experience. We didn't have any problem and only saw one other couple at the pool - even though the hotel was 90% full. One note, this really isn't a good choice for children. It is much better suited toward couples. The hotel is beautiful and we have... more
great place, great views, spoilt by rude owner
Beautiful hotel and located in an awesome part of Oia overlooking the caldera and volcano. Hotel has it's own swimming pool and our room was in a traditional cave. However, the hotel owner and his staff spoilt our stay. Firstly, they complained when we used the swimming pool saying that we were swimming too loudly even though we were making hardly any noise, it was just the sound of the water. No drinks were allowed on the swimming pool terrace. It didn't take us long to realise that the pool was to be seen and not used. <br... more
What A View!
A word of warning when staying here - a backpack is advisable as there are a lot of steps to get up & down when arriving/leaving & suitcases are a bit of a nightmare when negotiating lumpy bumpy cobbled steps! There are donkeys but not regularly & to be honest this looks an even more terrifying option! This hotel is built into little caves in the side of the hill & overlooks the Caldera; now I am not really a 'view' person. but I have to admit this is quite a view! We stayed in an apartment for six people - there were 2 couples &... more
A Piece of Paradise
My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Caldera Villas this June. We had a wonderful and unforgettable experience. We had done a lot of research prior to going to Santorini and had e-mailed the owner and host Mr. George Kiniazis several times and received prompt and helpful information each time. Through Mr Kiniazis we arranged for a taxi to be waiting for us when we arrived on the 7 am flight from Athens and again when we left from the port via ferry at the end of our stay. Though the taxi was a little pricey, it was well worth it, both... more
Travelers Beware!!
My wife and I along with our parents were to visit the island of Santorini from Mykonos (see related review for Villa Konstantin in Mykonos) from July 4th – July 7th, 2006 and stay at Caldera Villas. However, due to bad weather, all ferries (slow and fast) were cancelled between Mykonos and Santorini for 2 days (July 4th & July 5th). My hostess at our hotel in Mykonos offered to call the Caldera Villas proprietor to inform him of the problem that we were facing in our travel. This gentleman at Caldera Villas blasted the poor women and was... more
Great Location, Disagreeable Host
Caldera Villas has a prime location near the top of the high cliff overlooking the caldera -- the volcanic crater that forms the bay at Santorini. It's physically attractive, consisting of a cluster of traditional-style cave apartments, whitewashed and neat, with red tile floors on the public areas and a small swimming pool you can dip in after a day of walking. You need to walk down the stone cliff steps for the equivalent of 2-3 flights to get there, and back up to get to the street. This is true of many of the best places on Santorini and... more
Oia....forget the sunset, just stay here!
after a hectic week of wedding ceremonies, and deciding on my vacation was difficult and great fun, i did book almost 45 days in advance, but i must confess, after chosing my hotels , their locations, it turned out to be better than anything i had ever expected. Chose Oia, in Santorini ( 3 nights) simply because we were going to myconos next, and we did over do the travelling by flying to Vienna, then connecting flight to Athens, another flight to santorini all in one day. But it worked out great as we got all our... more
spectacular views
Spectacular views from the pretty Caldera villas in Oia. Small, very clean, well run establishment in a series of converted caves. Enjoy continental breakfast on the terrace each morning watching the boats below. CD player, air conditioning and small swimming pool all plus factors. Several fairly steep steps down to the villas from the main pedestrianised area -an incentive not to carry too much luggage, although a portering service is available. Staff friendly , unobtrusive and English-speaking. Great location and close to the bus... more
