Great for kids
This place is great also for kids. We brought our 1 year old in July and it's really hard to find shaded playgrounds in Italy for kids. This hotel has it's own children's playground nestled in a shaded, grassy orchard. There is a swing, monkeybars, little tunnel. It's really delightful, cool and peaceful place to play or winddown with your little ones after a day of sightseeing. I found the service at the hotel to be excellent and they were really accomodating at the breakfast buffet when I needed warm milk - not too warm... more
Faded Glory and fading fast
Stayed for a night as part of our holiday on the Amalfi/Sorrentine coast and was expecting good things but the hotel seems to cater exclusively for retired Americans, we heard one of them say "Muchos Gracias "to a waiter at breakfast. The rooms, service and attitude all were not as good as they should have been and they seem to be stuck for cash. On the plus side, the food and views were stunning. Would we go back, dont think so. Been there, done that.
Wedding Reception
We got married in Sorrento in September 2006 and had our reception at the impecable Excelsior Vittoria. We'd been planning the wedding for 12 months and their wedding co-ordinator (Imma Palumbo) was fantastic. We met her once prior to the wedding but everything else was via email. We did have a few concerns about doing it this way but she and the hotel were brilliant. I suppose we forgot that they do this several times a week! We took canapes on the Vittoria Terrace before dining on the Bosquet Terrace. The food was exceptional,... more
Superb hotel!
Simply a glorious, beautiful hotel that is centrally located with spectacular views. The staff is friendly and helpful, the service wonderful, and the rooms are beautful and quiet. Local wine recommendations from the knowledgable bar were excellent. If we ever visit Sorrento again, and I certainly hope that we do, we will most certainly stay here.
Stunning Scenery in a Lush Setting
We spent 4 nights here this past September before travelling to Rome to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I had some concerns about the hotel, based on past reviews on TripAdvisor. My fears disappeared the moment our driver let us off at the front door. As its literature states, the hotel is perched where a villa of Emperor Augustus once stood, on the cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. Lush gardens surround the property, which is right on Piazza Tasso, Sorrento's main square. The hotel is... more
Loved It
Beautiful hotel, decor very stylish with wonderful paintings on the ceilings in the lounge rooms and dining room. Room overlooked the bay with one of the large balconies, very comfortable, clean, spacious with a very nice bathroom. We had room service for breakfast every morning (stayed 3 nights). Evening meal was suberb with great choice of menu. The grounds we well maintained. staff very pleasant. The only fault was we didn't have longer there.
This is the perfect Wedding Location .... or Private Escape!
This majestic 'palace' dates back to the early 1800's, and it is built on exactly the same spot where the Roman Emperor August had his villa. With its superb cliff top position, with views across the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, and surrounded by orange and lemon groves, the Fiorentino family (after 4 generations) still spoil you with 5* hospitality, the charm and elegance of traditional Victorian style ......... combined with the warmth and intamcy of Southern Italy. You will sleep in exquisite comfort, especially if you chose the... more
Loved It!!!!!
We stayed at the Grand Excelsior for the first four days of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Great hotel. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!
Great location and pool
The hotel is perfectly situated in the town centre and with cab fares of 15 Euros for a ten minute journey, this saving when multiplied over a week makes a difference. Access to the hotel is down a long drive, through private gardens, so you don't feel like you are in a city hotel. On arrival, the grandeur of the building and it's character stand out. Our room was garden facing with balcony and was full of character; especially the tiled floor. The amenities were a little dated: TV was an old portable model (though some rooms had... more
We did not want to leave....
We have just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel Vittoria Excelsior. We were there from 14th July 2006-21st July 2006. We were slightly apprehensive after having read the other reviews about the hotel. However, after having stayed at the hotel we do not believe that the criticisms are justified. we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff could not do enough to help. We stayed in a classic sea view room which was located on the 6th floor of the hotel. We had a balcony which looked out directly over the... more
