Poseidon Hotel

Positano itself is one of the most beautiful places in the world.You must stay a few nights to really appreciate it.This hotel is absolutely charming in every way.I also stayed at the Le Sirenuse and San Pietro which are said to be the best in Positano,so I think I have a little experience.The staff is friendly ,the views are breathtaking,the rooms are charming.Their food in the resturant is excellent.I cannot think of any negatives.The prices may be high but worth every penny.The only problem you may find in Positano is the uphill walk,not... more

We stayed in Hotel Poseidon for a week during July and found the overall experience to be one of our best trips for a long time. The hotel has everything that a small family run hotel should have - immaculate service, attention to detail and excellent amenities for the location. Hotel Peseidon is perfectly situated halfway up the town from the beach. You can easily walk to the shops, restaurants and beach if you are reasonably fit. Our second choice was the Villa Franca at the very top of town. For our first stay in Positano, I was so happy we chose the Poseidon b/c is at Villa Franca one would definitely have to take a bus into town and back up.... I would not have liked that. While I didn't stay at this hotel, the Hotel Plazzo Murat which I did stay at (see my review there) suggested the SPA at the Hotel Poseidon. My partner and I had our hotel book two massages at Hotel Poseidon. (Made the reservation around 11am for 5pm & 6pm massage) We arrived at the hotel around 3:45pm and worked out in their mediocre gym (which they charged us 20euros each.) Our first time to Italy, my husband and I truly thought we'd died and gone to heaven when the bellman (not the unfriendly one ) took us on a journey to our room which turned out to be a suite. (We had a personalized package deal so had no breakdown of this cost.) Ask for the suite by the "grotto" all the way up! My husband and I after booking the marincanto and checking out quicker than we checked in were extremely fortunate to have found this hotel on such short notice. We ended up here by accident after leaving our first booking, and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Fantastic location, breakfast on the terrace with the most incredible views. We even splashed out on the first night in the suite, then 3 more nights in different rooms, all of them spacious, clean and beautifully furnished. My partner and I stayed at the Hotel Poseidon for 4 nights during May 2006. I had booked a Superior room some months earlier and was a little hesitant that the room prices may be a little overpriced. We booked the Poseidon only because the Miramare was full. We were concerned that we might be disappointed since Miramare is the top rated hotel on this site and in some guidebooks. We could not have been happier with our choice and would not consider staying anywhere else if we return - and we will! Our room (#18 on the third floor) was charming but a bit small, the bedroom area was only about 12 x 12 feet plus a small bathroom. The room was clean and attractive though it is showing it's age. What a find! Quaint, atmospheric, fabulous view. Cute restaurant and bar on picturesque terrace with perfect view. How you rate this depends on what you need to make you happy. If you want a true old-style Italian hotel, I would rate it a 5. If you need a plazma TV, modern elevator, quietness and people falling all over themselves to please you, I would rate it a 4.
