Butterfly Beach - Gotta Luv It !

We spent Christmas and New Year at the Butterfly Beach Hotel. For the money we couldn't fault it and the food was definitely worthy of more than the 3*'S the hotel currently holds. Parts of the hotel are due for a re-vamp this Summer i.e. tiling around the jacuzzi's, some new lighting, so check before you go, but we don't think it's going to be major noisy stuff.
The seaview rooms are particularly lovely, as they are quieter, the only thing we had to adjust to was the singing of the tree frogs!
The two beaches either side of the hotel are lovely, however, remember that they are public beaches and don't come under the security umberella of the Butterfly.
Transport is fun, blue Bajan corporation buses or mini-buses,white with a maroon stripe that will beep at you as you walk along (no bus stops for those fellas!) But don't be shy jump on a yellow reggae bus, windows wide open, music blaring, only $1.50 to St Lawrence Gap (20 bucks in a cab!)
Enjoy yourself, the Butterfly Beach is very welcoming (go visit the gift shop, the lady who runs it is a real giggler!) Many of the guests we met were repeat visitors, that says it all really.

I was booked a "Superior Studio Island view" and instead got the side view of a building and had to stick my head and lean over the balcony to get a view of the sea which just added to my enjoyment!!!!. I've visited Barbados on many ocassions and have enjoyed every holiday apart from this one so I know I am in a position to make the above comments on this accomodation. We previously stayed at Silver Sands Christchurch (it is a bit of of the beaten track, definately recommend hire of transport) and this hotel was first class, all staff were helpful and friendly the on site restaurant was expensive but if you go into Bridgetown the eating establishments were welcoming and food was lovely. South Beach hotel is also lovely.

Aug 2008, Miss D BOYCE

I booked our holiday via the net and unfortunately on 1st day of arrival at hotel the room was not aired sufficiently, neither the air conditioning or fan was turned on which in my opinion would have eleviated this problem, the electric cooker had tin foil wrapped around the hob, the kitchen sink tap was in need of repair, I had to plug in the fridge myself, the pictures used to advertise the hotel did not live up to expectations again in need of a fresh uplift, there was the oldest safe I've ever seen in use in your room at a charge which I had to report to reception several times because it did not work, only a couple of staff members were friendly and helpful the rest I found were miserable. Overall we did not enjoy our stay at this establishment also considering how much was paid for this holiday was dissapointing, we enjoyed several activities ie Ocean Park great for all the family, Cool Runnings day trip snorkelling and swimming with the sea turtles etc (a definate must) for the family and jet skiing.

What an amazing Island! think...

What an amazing Island! think Carribean and Barbados is what your imagining. Absolutely stunning scenery everywhere. The Butterfly Beach was a lovely place to stay. The staff were very friendly and never intrusive. Food excellent and St Lawrence Gap has everything you could want for a great night out, Great restaurants, lively bars and the friendliest taxi drivers i've ever met (if your lucky you might get 'CookieMonster' who was a font of knowledge and just a great laugh all round!!) You do get approached by the locals on the beach sometimes but a simple no thankyou and they leave you alone, usually after saying "have a nice day". All in all both Lisa and I loved it and are planning to return possibly this November to the Butterfly Beach hotel.

May 2008, Mr R Findon

What was the other reviewer, coming out of a coma? There is only one road past the hotel, not even a dirt track?
Get the No 11 to Bridgetown (About £2.00) Enjoy the sights & if anyone approaches you tell them to go away (they will respect your request)
Above all, remember, this is basically a third world country (I've been here loads of times) They Don't like the name 3rd world but what the fu*K (THIS IS NOT ENGLAND) & you have to make allowances for the indiginous population.
Fer 'Chrissakes its an 'oliday'

This was our first time in Barbados,...
6 / 10
Dec 2000, Mrs L Hobbs

This was our first time in Barbados, it was an allocated on arrival holiday. We were pleased with the hotel as it was the best hotel room/decor we've ever stayed in. The view from our balcony was amazing, right next to the beach & crystal blue sea. Palm trees & hummingbirds were by our balcony too. It was very nice. The pool was good, bar was average, quite pricey, but the usual stuff offered. Food was not served for very long at the bar. Staff were not too friendly though which surprised us. Crime rate was pretty bad. Our friends were on the ground floor & woke up to find a local climbing over their bed to steal his watch on the bedside table! There are signs even on top floors telling you to lock your balcony doors at all times. The police have guns! The other side of the hotel was pretty horrible, nothing but a dirt track or a road and no shops close by. We went to Oustins fish market on a friday night (the thing to do apparently!) It was ok but not a great night out, lots of cock roaches. We had to get a "boogie bus" (mini bus) every night to go into St Lawrence gap (that where its at! is the phrase) but sadly no, theres hardly anything to do. A few restaurants, nothing too inviting looking though. And thats it! We went to the capital on a normal bus which was ok, it was quite a terrifying ordeal there though. We got approached loads by local men asking us to give them money, buy them things from duty free using our card, buy drugs and getting funny with us when we said no. I'd never recommend a single woman going there. We also got approached lots by our actual hotel pool and on the beach by men selling drugs and aloe vera from old rusty whisky bottles!! Some got funny with our friends and starting threatening the lady. If you want to go to see the amazing scenery & picturesque beaches then go, but thats all I got from it.
