" Great Golfing Holiday "

I have just returned from a week long golfing holiday at the Marriott Beach and cannot speak too highly of this resort. Everything from accommodation, meals, cleanliness and security exceeded our expectations. I would like to particularly reccommend the whole staff who were welcoming, helpful and very polite at all times. I would be very happy to return for another holiday.

" Taba heights Jan 2009 "

My wife and I have just returned this morning 25/1/09.
First the standard of accommodation, 3* at best.
Second the food, on the whole not very good. Every night consists of a buffet style layout on a set theme but to be honest we couldn't really tell the difference from one night to the next, it was all very similar. To be honest going for our evening meal became almost a chore as you couldn't say that you enjoyed the experience.
Third the cost of drinks, somewhat costly to say the least! We made the mistake of ordering a glass of wine with our meal on the first night which worked out at around 7 or 8 pounds sterling for a small glass, we didn't do it again. Even water wasn't cheap so we didn't have any drinks with our evening meal. The cheapest bottle of wine on the menu (and in the hotel) was 175 Egyptian pounds which works out at around £22 and the quality is not particularly good.
On all bills there is a 12% service charge and a sales tax which is included in the price of each item.
There are shuttle buses to the town behind the hotels and the golf course which run every half hour where there is a small supermarket and a drinks shop as well as a bank, other souvenir shops and a few restaurant/bars. We tried the 'Flying Carpet' once and though prices were more reasonable, our meal wasn't much to write home about. The drinks shop prices are about half the price of the hotel and worth a visit.
We went on one trip to Cairo to see the Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Museum, all in all an excellent trip but beware of people who take your camera off you and then insist on taking pictures of you then hold their hand out for money. We did the overnight visit and stayed at the Conrad hotel in Cairo, a proper 5* hotel. Our guide for the trip was a lovely lady called Soha who looked after us, made us aware of tourist scams and passed on much of her vast knowledge about Egypt ancient and modern.
The resort is a beautiful place to relax and give up drinking, and.... take up snorkelling instead. There are jetties at the left hand side of the resort where you can see some fantastic fish, we saw Morays, Lion fish, Cornet fish, Parrot fish and many other beautiful species all close to jetty.
The trip and the snorkelling were wonderful and are not to be missed. A word about the staff, we found them helpful and very friendly.

Advice: Beautiful place, helpful staff, excellent snorkelling, too expensive.

Activities: No favourite restaurant, Cairo, without a doubt not to be missed

" Wow, this holiday was amazing!!! i... "

Wow, this holiday was amazing!!! i have just retured from a 7night stay at the mariott hotel in taba, it was wonderful and i would recommend it to anybody thinking of going to egypt!

we got a really cheap deal through lastminute.com and it was booked with peltours. we arrived in taba in the late evening and our rep was waiting for us, the airport was small and as soon as we landed several men tried to help get our bags onto the coach, as i was the very last person out of the airport (as i had gone to purchase a visa for ciaro), i was asked for english pounds from a very rude man who grabbed my bag off me. i didnt give him any money as he was awful and i was happy when the coach drove off, in all honesty i was really worried about the holiday as the experience with the man was very unpleasant, i am happy to say that the negative aspects were very minimal and i would advise travels to stick with the crowd and not branch off like i did!!

as soon as we arrived at the hotel (after a 45minute drive through the mountains) i loved it straight away. the staff were sooooo friendly and we were given a glass of orange juice as we were quing for the keys. we were shown to our rooms in no time and later our bags were brought to the room by friendly staff (take plenty of 1 dolla bills to tip with). the next morning we had a welcome meeting and i would advice anybody to attend, although fairly breif with a slight company promotion theme, it was informative and jolly!

the resort at taba is etreamly 'man made' in the sence that it was built purly for hotels. there are about 7 hotels (at a guess) that make up taba heights, it is beautiful with the mountains behind and the sea in front. there is a small town that has a supermarket and pharmacy etc and a free shuttle bus that goes there every half hour (this is fun in itself!)

if you need water/snacks then go up to the supermarket as it is soooooo much cheaper than the hotel. even though the hotel is more expensive i wouldn't say that it was unreasonalble for soft drinks etc, although beware that the wine is really pricey.

it is worth going to waterworld if you don't like the idea of sitting around all day soaking up the sun. you can do all the water sport, diving things, but also quade biking in the mountains. we went on the sumberine which i think would be good for people with children.

the staff at the hotel are lovely and friendly and especially if you show gratitude! the cleaner was very nice and he was flexible about when we had our room cleaned, he did a brill job and the whole hotel was very clean. the meals were good but got a little repetative towards the end. there is soooooo much cake though, not good if you have a sweet tooth!

the beach was beautiful, clean and really easy to get a lounger! take a dolla bill for the towel guy, the pool is right next to the beach for those who like water but not sand! its such a great view and you can see so far out, as far as jordan etc! you feel really safe at the hotel as there is a guard there all the time and when you have been to the town he will do a safety check. there are no horrible harrassing men at the resort which is something i was worried about! although the town is good for cheap water etc, any gifts you want are better purchased at the hotel shop (the second on the right, NOT THE FIRST!!) the guy is called phillip and he will not try to cheat you at all, his prices are more than fair as all the other shops will try rip you off! (its the shop that doesn't sell the chocolate bars!!)

room service is again really cheaply priced and is nice if you can't be bothered going down to the resturante (or if you are too sun burnt!)

this holiday is really really amazing and i have tried to highlight any of the bad things but to be honest i am pushed!!! it is a great place to have a honeymoon, relaxing break etc. i would not recommend it for people looking to go clubbing etc as it isnt that type of place. its a very romantic spot and would be great for a couples getaway!

one last negative point however.... take toilet roll in your bad as when you are out of the complex eg. ciaro... they expect you to pay. tiolets at taba airport are fowl, and the men are even worse, however don't let that put you off an amazing time!

i wouldn't bother with the ciaro trip as i got ill and it took about 6hrs to get there. other than that most of the other trips look good.

" We booked our early spring holiday... "

We booked our early spring holiday through lastminute.com around two weeks before our departure date. Lastminute where great and answered all the questions i had in depth and detail. Peltours - the tour operator who the holiday was with - was the complete opposite. The staff on the phone where rude, abrupt and very unhelpfull. At the airport the rep seemed very flustered and agitated when i requested my ticktes as they had not been sent to me. Our flight with Astraeus was ontime and very good, apart from the crampt 737-700 but the service and punctual departure made up for this.

On arrival into Taba Interanational the Peltours rep met us at the arrivals hall. He gave a speech along the lines of welcome to Egypt on behalf of the enitre country! Nice but over the top. We had to purchase our visa at the airport and as had planned to travel to Cairo we had to pay $20. The passport control consisted of an old man on a wooden chair looking and waving at your passport. Only once we were on the bus i realised that the visa should only have cost $15. So, the remaining $5 dollers was pocketed by the guys in the airport. Putting the luggage onto the coach we encountered the first of the endless amount of begging from the airport staff. If you refused to tip they would then refuse to put your case onto the coach. I ended watching while the tour rep demanded the monies others had given him and made sure my bag was on the bus before i took my seat.

Arriving at the Marriott everyone has to walk through a metal detector. With 3 bus loads of people this took some time. The hotel reception check you in and then keep your passport on the reception desk. I asked if they would be locked up and they told me yes, I was suspisious of this so i walked down to reception at 3am and the desk was unmanned with all the Passports unattended. The room was quite dissapointing - not the 5 star description given by on the lastminute or Peltours website. Our toilet did not flush and there was no running water. This was not fixed until the next day.

We met with the Peltours rep to complain about our toilet facilities and he did not seem intersted as it had been fixed. We booked our tour to the Pyramids and Cairo. An early wake uo call was booked at 3am! We paid in egyptian pounds, which on later investigation when we got back home this means we paid £40 extra per person. The early morning breakfast was awful. Bread rolls and butter with luke warm tea and coffee. The coach was cramped and stunk. The journey took 6 hours to get to cairo, driving through the desert.

When we finally arrived at the pyramids the 'tour' guide errupted into a 20 minute speech about the history of the pyramids. This was annoying as we had just spent 6 hours on a bus and really wanted to explore. When we finally got off the bus the guide dissapered and our 'security' man also dissapered. This lead to a fellow person on the tour being held to ransom as the locals wanted his watch! We only had 30 minutes to look around the pyramids which was extreamly short. The tour then went to the sphinx which was good.

The tour then went into a phase of time waisting. We arrived at a 'Papyrus' institue that turned out to be a shop where they wanted ridiculous amounts of money for these works of 'art'. Then we we driven to a 'bazaar' which again turned into a sales pitch. Also if your a blonde woman beware. You will be letched at and propositioned by the men in here. One member of the tour was offered money by one man for her services - lovely!

We then had lucnh at the 'Le Meridien'. The food was awful and the staff are a nightmare. Drinks are overprised and your are constantly asked if you have finished - even if there is still lots of food on your plate. We then went to the musuem of cairo which apart from the death mask of Tutenkahmun was pretty awful, we spent ten minutes there and sat outside for the rest of the time. Our journey back was as dreadful, we almost crashed due to the speed of the driver.

Taba Heights offers a shuttle bus around the resort. We waited for 1 hour on our first attempted to catch it. No body gets of at this hotel and therefore you cannot get on! When we finally did get on the bus (a day later) we had to argue with the driver for him to take us. The 'town' is good and has a supermarket and other resturants. El Fugo is the best and the manager is very hospitabel.

Overall the resort is good but can be improved. The buffet meal is awful and the food is warm and repetative. Tuscany offers a much better service will proper waiter service and excellent food. The regatter bar is also good but beware of the awful enterainment and the belly dancer who just wiggles to the music.

If you want to snorkle you should walk up to the sofitel and walk along the jetty. This was the best part of the holiday. The sea life was fantastic and magical.

This place is good if you want to relax but if you want to explore without the tour operator 'robbing' your money you cant. If you are travelling with Peltours then i suggest you do your tours with Thomson as they are more professional and trust worthy.

I would go back but only with another tour operator and i would recommend the Hyatt.

" I have just returned from a weeks... "

I have just returned from a weeks holiday at this resort with my partner, the Hotel is beautifully landscaped, the pool was lovely and warm. The food was very good with lots of choice and the times you could go for meals was very good (up to 11.30 for evenining meal). The food available in the lunchtimes were also very good. The staff at the hotel are very helpful and friendly. The room was of good standard, although in this country the rate would not be a 5* for Egypt it is a very good hotel. The beach was lovely and you could walk from the marina to the end of the resort, no hassle from anyone, even the 3 shops at the hotel you never felt pressurised to buy! camels on the beach and very few shops (perfect for a peaceful break). The weather was in the mid 30'sc and the sea was warm.

The Hotel Spa had good facilities and (although we did not go to gym), it looked good. Belly dancing lessons on the beach and water aerobics were also good fun for those who wanted to join.

I have been to Sharm el Sheik (lovely) but I preferred TABA HEIGHTS for its beauty, peace and tranquility; from the beach you can see Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Isreal. I would definateley recommend this Hotel and resort and would go back.

The best currency to take is US dollars as this is accepted everywhere and you get a better exchange.

" Whilst in TABBA HEIGHTS i was... "

Whilst in TABBA HEIGHTS i was unfortunate to have a fall, the doctor was called to my room ,i was treated VERY well which is something our ENGLSH doctors lack. The staff were most concerned for my wellbeing in particular a gardener who spoke no English if it were not for him i would NEVER have climbed the stairs to my room ,he practictly carried me up the stairs(bearing in mind my weight is 13.5 stones) with no effort when i tried to give him a tip he just shook his head and smiled it seems i had made a friend for life. Also the manager Mr JAN HEESBEEN the hotel manager enquired about my wellbeing on a number occassions and told me if there is anything i requre to contact him,I found all staff at the TABBA HEIGHTS very polite and VERY proud of their heritage .Unfortunately i had to cancel trips to see this beatifull part of the world but i managed to see PETRA (althought i was in considerable pain) it was a wonderfull sight to see and i only hope it is never allowed to disapear from a world that can ill aford to lose such a treasure.

" The perfect mother & daughter... "

The perfect mother & daughter retreat.

If you, like me, adore being pampered by men visit the Marriott Taba Heights Resort on the Red Sea.

I was recovering from Shingles and my mother was suffering the after effects of a car accident and we were both much in need of nurture.

When we arrived Chef Amal was there to talk about my special dietary needs and immediately arranged for us to have dinner in our room as my mother was exhausted.

The desire to exceed customer expectations and the Egyptian generosity and humour combined to create Marriott magic.

Our pool towels were carried to the beach, red hibiscus flowers artistically adorned our pristine king sized beds and everywhere there were Associates willing to attend to our every need.

Designed as an oasis with curving Moorish architecture, waterfalls & fountains, luxuriant gardens vibrant with tropical birds, the ambience nourished our souls.

It was the perfect mother & daughter retreat.

" Overall good hotel - quite impressive... "

Overall good hotel - quite impressive - but most of them are along this strip.

Clean and large rooms with beautiful marble bathrooms. We had 2 kids with us and they ended up giving us 2 connecting rooms, even though we had not paid any extra - a great bonus! Grounds were well kept - cleaning all the time.

Food was absolutely fine, though we found the options for lunch were more limited, and relatively expensive - but you are somewhat of a captive audience I suppose.

Pool was freezing the whole time we were there - we were told that the heater had broken down but we were unsure if this was just regular practice. It did not matter much as we spent a fair bit of time swimming & snorkelling in the sea which was warmer! The snorkelling was better up near the Hyatt by the way.

Quite a good array of hotel shops but be prepared to haggle if necessary in some of them.

Staff were very friendly, but the entertainment was a bit limited, but fine if you are just on a relax & chill holiday. Some excursions are offered from the hotel but these were not cheap and involved a lot of travelling with most of them so I would not recommend them unless you are there for 2 weeks and going stir crazy!

" We have just returned from another... "

We have just returned from another one week stay at the Marriott Hotel whilst we enjoyed our stay, there were a few areas that were a little disappointing and worth a mention.

The meals were extremely poor, and often meals that should have been hot were barely warm! The variety of meals seemed minimal and usually included a half hearted attempt at using the leftovers from previous day’s meals.

Apparently they were cutting back!! The coffee was usually cold and trying to attract the attention of a waiter to change it for hot was not easy.

Evening entertainment was poor and in need of a makeover! It was a complete re-run of last year and not very entertaining.... definitely one to miss.

However we have no other areas of negative criticism. The hotel and its staff are the friendliest we have ever come across, and made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. We will return again and hopefully the friends we made will return again too...

" Having booked the holiday I was... "

Having booked the holiday I was horrified to see the last 2 reviews and was a bit apprehensive about it, especially as we have already visited the Hyatt and decided to opt for something different.

The hotel room was definitely more 4* than 5, however having travelled extensively this is to be expected in some parts of the world including Egypt. However it was clean and everything worked.

As for the hotel itself - it was fantastic. The staff were friendly and attentive; the restaurant was very good with a very good range of food for both breakfasts and evening meals.

Contrary to the other reviews, the food was hot and was varied enough for us not to get bored and we always left having eaten too much. Even our 4 year old was happy.

At breakfast, the tea/coffee`s were left at the tables, so often got cold however there was a full facility to get hot tea/coffee from the buffet. The bread`s at dinner were fresh and often warm - straight out of the oven.

The rest of the hotel grounds were clean as was the private beach and pool areas. There were always enough places to sit by the pool or on the beach. For the kids there is a small paddling pool and also a play area with a slide, swings etc.

A 1.5l bottle of water cost 12 Egyptian pounds (about £1.20) from the bar's which although not bargain of the year, wasn't exactly extortionate compared with what we paid at LGW!

Overall it was a very enjoyable week and we met several people who were on their 3/4th visits and I have to say we would happily return.

As for the negative reviews, all I can say is that either they were there during an extremely bad week. If you want the Ritz it’s going to cost you a bit more than the £350 - £450 per week half board.

I would also say that if all you want to do is get drunk and bang your head with loud music....go to Benidorm or Bognor as you will not have a good time.

However if you are looking for a pleasant, relaxing & warm escape without breaking the bank I would definitely recommend the Marriott Taba.

The tour operators local reps organisation of the transfers to and from the airport left a bit to be desired...but hey you can't have everything!

" The hotel looks great, the rooms are... "

The hotel looks great, the rooms are very acceptable and the grounds are well kept.
The beach towels are maroon and fluffy. Most of the staff are very approachable and some will even set to and complete the task you set them.

I think I have covered all the positives. The dining experience would not rate 2* in any European hotel, eggs or omelets for breakfast, the cereals provided would not match any 'own brand' found in a British supermarket but the bread is good.

Coffee at tables all too often cold, insist on hot coffee if you can get the attention of the waiting staff. As someone who enjoys their food, there was not a single occasion when I looked forward to my evening meal and other guests stated that they had not had sufficient enthusiasm to make the journey to the dining room on numerous occasions.

N.B. for those of you who book in spite of my comments beware of the water scam. On first entering the dining room you will be encouraged to purchase bottled water and being tired and hot after a long journey this seems to be a natural progression. The waiter will agree to your request and suggest you buy a number of bottles for your time ahead at a special rate. A good number from our party did so.

The water provided was Evian and my bottle cost 28 Egyptian pounds, those customers who had fallen for the bulk purchase were more than a little concerned when they saw their bills. There are apparently no organised activities and posters for televised football matches were still on display four days after the event. The Regatta bar had the same music group for six days of the week and while we enjoyed their performance more variety might have been more interesting.

I returned home today and could write at length but I need my sleep. It is not necessary to ask me if I will be returning to the Marriot, if you must go to Taba Heights try another hotel.

Best of luck.

" Regardless of all the great reviews... "

Regardless of all the great reviews about this place, as an individual who can recognize a 5 star hotel when I see one I can assure all of you that this hotel is not worthy of 3 stars in the UK.

The staff are clueless and only interested in taking your money, not quality or satisfying your needs. The food was repetitive, stone cold as it has no form of sustained heat throughout the duration at meal times and tasteless.

Orange juice made from powder and cheap nasty red wines that would be a fiver at most in the uk being retailed at an exorbitant £30 -50 a bottle. Staying half board no drinks were provided in the evening at all, not even water. The £3 supplement towards a restaurant meal is a joke in itself but not as big a joke as the meal we had in the Tuscany restaurant! A la carte! Oh dear, I don’t think anybody can cook at the hotel at all.

£60 for 2 poor meals that were no more Italian than my aunty! The Grotto served us up a pizza and chicken that were honestly the worst meals I have ever eaten in any hotel- no wonder I had a bad stomach for 4 days- in fact I still have now!

We went on a tour to Jerusalem, a farce befitting any of the best carry on films. We got back freezing having been given no indication of the bitterly cold weather 3 hours late to a dining room with leftover scraps of cold food and no provision for anything decent to eat.

The mini bar was half filled at will and we were cheated into paying for stuff we hadn't had, although the so called manager showed little interest. I have yet to find a hotel in the UK to charge me £10.50 for a large whisky but Taba Heights Marriott seems to think it has the right to. The Ritz maybe- but not this inferior concrete monstrosity. Another day in paradise?! Thank God for the UK I say!

" Having been the first time to Egypt,... "

Having been the first time to Egypt, I will definitely return.

The food was great the entertainment was great and the service and accommodation was out of this world.

We went on our honeymoon and they couldn't do enough for us. The staff were delightful and really took time out to get to know you - what you liked and where you preferred to sit, so they could reserve he table for you.

We didn't want to leave, it was so relaxing, with plenty of excursions we weren't bored at all.

The temperature was lovely 37 degrees but there was no wind so sun cream is a must as you burn very easily but there's is plenty of parasols and shaded areas.

The resort was not busy at all but wasn't too quite either.

" Excellent family hotel. Lots of Space... "

Excellent family hotel. Lots of Space around the pool area with grass for kids to play on. Lovely beach with excellent snorkelling just a short walk into the sea.

Food is good quality if a bit repetitive in main Buffet, though you can eat in the excellent if slightly pricy Italian. Beer good, wine terrible & pricy. If you want wine take your own and keep it in the fridge.

The rooms are large with good clean facilities. The staff are mostly very helpful and all seam really happy that you are still prepared to Holiday in Egypt.

" Just back from a weeks stay at the... "

Just back from a weeks stay at the Marriott and - to say the least - it was excellent.

The hotel is one of four on the shoreline - the Intercontinental next door had next to no guests ( maybe because its just opened), the Sofitel and Hyatt both had a few more guests than the Intercontinental, but none as many as were staying at the Marriott (and that wasn't exactly overflowing - I'd say about 250 guests in total). There is a fifth hotel in the area, the Three Corners -El Wakela, that is inland ( a shuttle bus runs there) in the grounds of a 'nearly complete' golf course - looked more like a building site to me - but the hotel itself is a 5 star one.

We went for a relaxing holiday and got just that. The hotel staff were some of the friendliest that I have ever encountered, they couldn't do enough for you. In the main restaurant, the Al Andalus, the service was excellent, the food excellent quality, and never so busy that you couldn't get a table. There are other a la carte restaurants situated in the hotel vicinity but we didn't bother with them apart for lunch, as the Al Andalus was that good. On an evening there was usually some form of entertainment, either the resident 'trio' in the Regatta Bar, or a themed night in the 'Grotto' bar. Nothing spectacular, but better than sitting in a smoky pub listening to a jukebox!! It’s definitely not the place if you're looking for 'English style' pubs and a karaoke machine.

The bedrooms were spacious, large beds, mini-bar, satellite TV - and close to both the beach and the pool. Great views of both the sea and the mountain backdrop. Weather was great, high 20's every day, with a fresh breeze most of the week which made it really comfortable.

Hotel pools are great, a cold one for the sturdier, and a really nice heated one, just don't get them mixed up otherwise you're in for a surprise, especially if you jump into the cold one. The beach is great, it’s clean, tidy, and has permanent palm topped brollies. Beach towels are provided, which is a bonus, and are provided fresh, and clean, daily (you get a token per person on arrival to exchange for a towel). The sea has a bit of a pebbly/rocky foreshore but gets sandy as you get farther out toward the coral outcrops where the fish hang out - its shallow though - you can be in waist deep water 100 yards out at low tide. There waiter service on the beach for drinks and lunchtime snacks so you don't have to go far for anything.

Other facilities on site - a Bureau de Change to get your Egyptian money (with an ATM outside of it as well) - a couple of small gift shops with very limited stock (but you can get a snorkel/mask/flippers here - essential for the fish watching) - a Lobby Bar near reception that has Sky Sports - for those all important matches - a gym, tennis courts and a spa. You can pay for things by cash as you go along or charge them to your room and pay up at the end of the week - so no worries about having loads of cash on you if you don't want to. There is a flat promenade that runs the length of the beach from the Intercontinental, past the Marriott, and on past the Sofitel and the Hyatt, so plenty or room to walk off your dinner.

I can't sing the praises of this place too much - 5 years time and the area will probably go like Sharm, but for now it’s still relatively unspoiled. We loved the place - so much so that we are planning to go back before the Easter rush next year - and again next November.
