Montinho De Ouro Apartments

Went to Montinho de Ouro with friends who stayed there in July 2003.
We stayed in ‘The Cottage’ - Number 5 a large 2 bed apartment; and Number 3 a 1 bed apartment.
Cleanliness standards had dropped since the previous year - instead of 2 ‘cleaning ladies’ there was only 1; which meant that beds weren’t made 5 out of 7 days as stated in the on site Style folder, floors weren’t swept and the general cleanliness of the complex was not as good as 2003.
One of the ‘showers’ in The Cottage was attached to the tap (not fixed to the wall)and a constant stream of warm water was impossible to find (switching between hot and cold mid shower).
In our first week the pool and complex was taken over by very loud holidaymakers, who may have been better suited to a holiday in Albufeira. Thankfully they returned to England and we had a lovely quiet second week.
Don’t rely on the rep - She doesn’t do much.
There are several supermarkets all near by, which stock an excellent range of goods. The biggest being on the edge of Lagos.
Weather - Very hot (43 degrees one day!)
Places to go/eat: Burgau Beach Bar (for a table in the evening you must book); Caravella Restaurant, Espiche; Caravella Restaurant, Burgau to name but a few - all very good (around 190 euros for 6 people for 3 courses, coffee and drinks).
Visit Monchique - don’t expect it to be cooler in the mountains though; take plenty of sun block.
Cape St Vincent is worth a visit - to buy your winter woollies!
Went to Slide & Splash - hire an umbrella as you go in (4 euros, but you get 2 euros back on its return) as there is not much shade.
Leave plenty of luggage space to bring back pottery and booze. We were told at Manchester Airport check in that we would be charged for excess luggage (£10 per kg) on our return if we were over the limit, so we left toiletries and clothes behind to be as light as possible. However, at Faro check in our cases weren’t weighed - all that fuss for nothing.
The holiday as a whole was great.
