I travelled up to Manchester for my first time in January on a 2 day business trip. I stayed at the Midland Hotel Manchester as it was the nicest place my work would shell out for! Much better and more charismatic than a Premier Inn.
The staff were pleasant and the buffet breakfast service was superb. I feel however that the hotel could do with more in terms of entertainment and internet access, I felt that although the hotel provided my rudimentary accommodation to a high standard it had little in the way of extras.
I booked my stay at The Midland Hotel through

We stayed here for 2 nights in April to attend our friends wedding which was held at the hotel. They wanted to get married there because apparently that is where some Mancheste United players have got married!! He's man u mad!!!!! The hotel itself was amazing, I cannot fault it at all! The rooms were spacious, clean and modern. The staff were exceptionally helpful. The inside of the hotel was like something from a fairytale! gorgeous! We ate out on our first night at the hotel so did not try the hotel restaurant as the following night was the wedding reception. The food at the reception though was excellent, so my guess would be that the restaurant would be similar. On the morning of the wedding we enjoyed a swim at the hotel swimming pool. That was very nice and the gym looked very well equipped but too much hard work for me! It was quite an expensive hotel but well worth the money. I would definately stay here agin and recommend it to others.

My husband booked a surprise luxury weekend break at this so-called prestigious hotel for my birthday. The entrance and welcome belied the truth behind the hotel. The room was pretty basic and rather cramped. It was stuffy and no opportunity for fresh air. Our own bedroom and ensuite at home is bigger and better equipped. Always a disapointment. I had a massage booked for me at their elemis spa. Having been to the elemis spa in London I was expecting something luxurious and special... it was far from it! The gym and spa area was shabby and the pool tiny. The massage itself was good though.
The meal in the evening was at the French restaurant and the service and quality of food well below par. The expensive red wine we ordered was cold and when questioned the response was they are all cold!! To warm the wine up to room temperature a tea towel dipped in hot water was brought in to wrap the wine- the wine from our glasses having been poured back into the bottle!! It was a joke. I did think we were on "You've Been Framed"! The medium rare steak my husband ordered was well done and the potatoes under cooked. Very poor. Hotels such as this one needs to start raising its game and resting on its reputation from a bygone era... it won't last and word will get round!
