5 star design 2 star service
The decor of the hotel is excellent and first impressions are of a well run establishment, however there are some shocks in-store for the discerning guest. The hotel as you would expect is expensive (£12 pounds for guests to park their vehicle overnight and £2.95 for a cup of tea), add to that a tip as the only way to have a cup of tea in your room is through room service, but that in itself is a minor issue. Our main complaint was in the bar/restaraunt areas. It took between ten and fifteen minutes from ordering to recieving cold... more
First Class Service - Worth saving up for!!
The Lowry is a modern office block style but very welcoming hotel a short walk from the Deansgate Area of Manchester. The inital location seems a little intimidating - the 1960's Inland Revenue office blocks are not the best welcome but once inside, the hotel is welcoming and the service is first class. Offered an excellent rate of £150.00 for sole occupancy. Luggage whisked away upon arrival and delivered to room. Escorted to room upon check in, full turndown service in the evening and bath butler??, 24 conceairge and... more
Loved it!
My friend and I, decided whilst at Uni (some years ago!) that we would treat ourselves to a short stay in a 5* hotel for each of our 30th birthdays. After a terrible stay last year for her birthday in a dubious 5* hotel in Bath, I decided to introduce my southern friend to the delights of oop north. After getting terribly lost in Manchester (please note following the signs for the Lowry is misleading as the hotel is not actually near the Lowry itself!) we arrived. Very friendly - was the first impression and so that set the tone... more
"5 star hotel" so it says
With living in Manchester myself I never thought of actually staying at The Lowry Hotel but after hearing from a friend how nice it was there me and my partner decided to give the must talked about 5 star hotel a try. Everything seemed to be fine when we arrived but when i went to check in at reception we were told that no such reservation existed in my name. After asking them to search again for me they finally found it but at 20 minutes of my expense. When we eventually managed to get up my room we were shocked to find that there were... more
The way a modern hotel should be!
I love this hotel. Have stayed there twice now and on both occasions have really enjoyed the experience. I love landmark hotels, but if I am going to stay in a modern hotel, I would hope it would be just like the Lowry. The service is good, efficient and unobtrusive. The location is quite good, only a short walk across the river to Manchester, and quiet at night. The cocktails are extremely good in the bar and last time we stayed there we ate in the restaurant which surpassed our expectations. Have eaten in four Rocco Forte Hotels... more
Has no soul!
This hotel takes minimalism too far to the extreme that it has a very cold feel to it. The reception area is very cold and boring without any pictures on the wall. (Lowry???) Even the receptionist was complaining of how cold she was! A party of us stayed here in January and the receptionist had all our names either wrong or mixed up - obviously no inside communication. I certainly wouldn't stay here again unless someone was paying for me and even then I would recommend staying somewhere in the centre of Manchester where there are better... more
Customer is never right...
Maybe I am a London snob but when I pay top whack, I expect to a very stress free stay. This proved not be to the case. My wife booked over the phone initially to stay for 1 night (the Saturday). She was offered a discounted rate if we agreed to stay on Friday night as well. She agreed and we made the trip on Friday night. Told that there was valet parking and a full concierge service, we took our luggage out of the car and asked that the heavier items be brought to our room. We had obviously inconvenienced the memeber of staff by asking... more
Once upon a time..... we took a day out in Manchester!
Manchester is such a great city that every year we have a weekend there to do our Christmas shopping. We stayed at The Lowry for the third time at the begining of December and it lived up to previous standards without a doubt, it certainly deserves the five star ratings, and the title of one of the worlds leading hotels. The doormen are great, the people inside are courteous and helpful and try to go that extra mile for you. As for the rooms WOW they are in a modern, minimalist style and the bed is the best ever it is so... more
Bad Breakfast
Room excellent but all meals were really apalling. The breakfast was almost un-eatable. If we hadn't been with friends(who recommended this hotel) then we would have complained there and then. The hash browns were rock solid, the bacon was pale and boiled in a warming dish, the sausages poor quality and the eggs were over-cooked scrambled. Go to the cafe down the road and just book room only!!!
