Great place to stay
Just got back from the Sami Beach Hotel today and it was Great value for the money, I arrived at around 2am and as I had seen some bad reviews on the hotel, I asked the reception for a good room right from the start as it would save changing later in the day, With a smile he looked through the keys and handed me 337, He said if you don't like it come back and change it. My case was carried to the room for me by the night security, The room was Great, lots of room, double bed (king size) a bath with shower above, lots of room to hang things up. The room shared the balcony with rooms 338 & 339, but as it was the size of a football pitch I did'nt care about that, it had a table and chairs outside each door and about 10 sunbeds, the balcony looked over the beach resturant and onto the beach, about 20 yards away, the trees did block what would have been a great view, but they are needed for the shade. You can have air con & a mini bar in the room for a local payment, The room is cleaned (checked) daily, sheets & towels changed twice a week. The hotel has lots of entertainment on site in the beach bar from Bingo to Dancing, it also has all the normal water sports and boat trips on the beach. The Sami hotel is part of the Sami Group, it offers discounts at a local barber ect, there is a sauna and Turkish bath in the hotel. I went on a B&B rate at the hotel for the 2 weeks, there was lots to eat at breakfast, hot & cold, I have never seen a layout like the Sami had, it was great. I should say I have been going to Bodrum & Gumbet for the last 17 years now (twice a year) and have always used small hotels as I travel alone and it is normal to be a bit cheaper, but as my holiday was cancelled, i booked this through my local travel agent, it was booked around March / April time, flight only then the hotel through MedHotels, I got the room B&B for £5.80 a night and they did the transfer two ways for £20 ( a mini bus just for me both ways). So all in all I would rate this hotel and its services as the 3 star hotel it states it is, I would use it again, but I do prefer Bodrum to Gumbet, I hope this will help anybody thinking about the Sami Beach Hotel (note: not the Sami Plaza)
Enjoyed very much...
We had great time there...Definitly will be there again....
great time in gumbet
Had a 4 hr flight from Exeter to Bodrum Airport then a 40 min or so transfer to Bodrum Centre. Had to change from coach to mini-bus here for onward travel to Gumbet (3km) as streets are narrow and cannot really accommodate large coach! ***note you have to have a £10 pound note sterling to get your visitors Visa at passport control in Turkey***. Arrived at silly-o-clock (01:30am) at Hotel which has 24hr reception. Nice welcome on front desk and got allocated room (103) and had bags taken downstairs by porter. (note that front of hotel is at street level but back of hotel facing beach is two flights down). Felt like we were going down to the cellar! The room given was a joke. The term 'couldnt swing a cat' sprung to mind. It was on 1st floor overlooking the pool but we couldnt get on the balcony as the handle wasnt on the door! The room had a double bed and built in wardrobe and nothing else. Bathroom was basic and toilet didnt flush either! To top it off, the smoke alarm battery was running out and every minute or so the thing would beep to remind us so i had to take the battery out. We didnt know whether to laugh or cry but were so tired we decided just to sleep and sort it out in the morning. We didnt even bother to unpack. With smiley face, i asked to see manager and asked him if i could switch rooms. Funny, as i didnt even say which room i was in and he agreed no problem. Asked which were the best rooms and he allocated us a 'recently refurbished' room (301) which is actually at the same level as reception but two flights up overlooking the pool again. He showed me the room and this definately looked 3 star - balcony, TV, Fridge, larger room, better bathroom (phone and hairdryer in there). Thanked manager and he arranged for our cases/bags to be moved from our other room while we went down for breakfast. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and the grounds were 'lovely' according to my girlfriend who commented on the plants/trees in the gardens. We never did hang around the pool as the beach is literally 20 yards away and the sunbeds were free and comfy. It would have been rude not to use them. The waiters came to us on the beach so we didnt even have to get up for drinks! Talk about a lazy holiday! We varied the places we ate each day but the food we did have at the hotel was good and always service with a smile. The staff were friendly and funny! There was always something going on every night although 'entertainment' could be used lightly. To be fair, the bar manager was funny and i think a lot of it was 'tongue in cheek' stuff. There was even a MALE belly dancer which wasnt entirely my cup of tea but it was a laugh especially after a few EFES! One day we went on the SAMI IV (4) Gullet on a day trip (see Dutch? guy on hotel beach front). We both paid equivalent of £10 each for the trip from 10:00 to 17:30 which included lunch on the boat and also tea and cakes. This is definately a must for anyone staying not only at the hotel but anywhere in Gumbet - superb and great value for money. Gumbet looks like it doesnt start to get busy until late in MAY and onwards. Most of the bars were pretty empty but to be fair, some were still putting the finishing touches before the mad rush of summer. This suited us both as we didnt want a mad week away. The best thing was that whichever bar we did go in, we got good service and most would offer cheap drinks just to get us in too! The bars are mostly British orientated and if you are into football, will be good around world cup time. So, apart from the poor room at the start, things couldnt have been better. To be fair, we really didnt give Gumbet much hope when we booked it just 4 days prior to departure. We paid £168 quid for the two of us which was for B&B at the SAMI and we really thought we were going to get what we paid for but we couldnt have been more wrong. We are definately going back to Gumbet next year and i would recommend to any couples who are dubious about Turkey just like we were! Good luck! ged
For a fantastic Holiday....
Lovely times..I ve been fourth time and I ll be there tis summer again..
dont bother
This was not our choice as we should have been staying in Bodrum. So not a good start. We were offered the appartments across the road, although we were supposed to be in a Hotel. Don't except these if they offer you it!!!we were put in a room in the basement, which was next to a boiler room we think, as all we heard was a drumming noise. The bathroom had damp all over the ceiling. The Hotel was also said to be 3*. It was nowhere near that. The staff are unfreindly and very pushy. The pool was never cleaned the whole week we were there. The only good side is where it is situated if you want to be in the middle of all the night life.
Don't go
This is truly the worst three star hotel I have stayed in. I can't believe people say they have enjoyed it: they are being ripped off. We were initially offered a grubby room in a back street and had to refuse to take it. The best rooms are in the main hotel:refuse all others. It badly needs to be re-furbished. The food is truly appalling for a three star. There are only two main courses on offer that must cost about 35p per head. The quality is poor and just about edible. They need to do something about it. If you aren't interested in 'pulling' a waiter, I suggest you go elsewhere. Drinks are very expensive.
Great Holiday
As this was our first time in Turkey we could not have been in a better Hotel than The Sami Beach; we are looking forward to returning there next year. The staff are very friendly, helpful and will do their best to make sure you have a great holiday. Central to everything in Gumbet and only 20 mins from Bodrum. Rooms are clean and well decorated with good facilities as is the rest of the Hotel. Entertainment on every night, good food in the restaurant and bars. Pool Lifeguard on duty for the children. Reception manned 24 hrs a day.
A different opinion
My review of the hotel is extremely mixed. Location : 10/10 Right on the beach, 100 mtrs from Bar street The rooms are basic, the air conditioning a must. The bathroom was horrid, the shower cubicle leaked and flooded the bathroom. The toilet was disgusting and had never seen a sniff of bleach. Just a cap of bleach would have done it, it was stained and horrible with a strong smell. The pool was lovely and clean for the first 3 days, then after 3 days the pool went cloudy, then green, then you could not see the bottom of the pool in the shallow end. Guests complained to the hotel and they were told that it was chemicals....not sure what the chemical symbol is for filth ! People were chosing to go elsewhere to swim and bathe, not what you expect from a hotel with a pool. The evening entertainment programme was as advertised and was what you would expect anywhere in Turkey. What was very annoying, and something that i brought up with the Bar Manager is that they would only play 5 or 6 of the same songs EVERY night in the same order, and if you are tehre for a 2 week holiday as we were it drove you to distraction, again to the point where byyou couldnt bear to go to the hotel bar for fear of the same songs. The service in the bar was good, some of the waiters were TOO in your face and got on your nerves, but again to be expected. Buffet breakfast was turkish style and acceptable quality, the qulaity of the evening meal on half board basis was between average and below average in quality and imagination. Smoking was allowed in all dining areas which put me of personally, but again this is personal taste. The boat trip booked on the beach for a tenner is WELL worth the money, and great day out and the Sami boat is not crowded at all and lunch is included. The one thing that is a MUST for any visitor to Gumber is the Dreamgirls show...miss it .... miss out ... see my full review of the dreamgirls.
Sami Beach Hotel, Gumbet.
The hotel is in an ideal location in Gumbet. Right on the beach, with restaurants, bars, shops etc. right on the doorstep. There is also a walkway right along the beach. There is a nice pool area, and also hammocks for relaxing in. The rooms are very tastefully decorated, although the shower could be doing with updating. The restaurant has wonderful views over the sea, and there is a fantastic selection in the buffet every morning for breakfast.
Best holiday ever!!!
