Just got back from the Sami beach, in Gumbet-Turkey, and it was great. It was our first time in Turkey but already we are planning to go back. The hotel was basic but clean.
The staff are more than helpful and you feel so relaxed and at home.
I went with my boyfriend and there was always entertainment on at the hotel so you didn’t need to travel far. We hired the sami2 boat for the day and it was great there was 7 of us and I would recommend this as the other boats always seemed packed.
The only downside I can think of is that there is a lot of trees and the view from our balcony was blocked by a palm tree so we could not see anything.

When first arriving we had to move rooms as there were 3 of us and we had been given a room with 2 single beds - and they kindly moved us across the road into the semi villas - and it was huge! Although there was no bath the accommodation was excellent...only downside we were above the bar which played music till 3/4ish some nights and Wednesdays was karaoke night. But not the hotels fault, you kind of get used to the noise after a while.
Waiters were great and their English wasn’t bad. Pepsi or Kadir had me laughing all holiday as I found him the only one that was aware of personal space and good hygiene... The waiters in other restaurants I found disgusting, they serve food without tops on and are leaning their arm pits over your food ... and that put me right off my meal.
The food is always a really good price - full English breakfast for 3ytl (approx £1 ) and Sunday dinners for 10 ytl and most meals are good value. Clothes are great although most of it is fake designer stuff. Most of it you can’t tell the difference between the real stuff and the fake stuff. I went on the Dolamus bus to Bodrum (they came every 5 minutes all day) and it is a lovely city with beautiful scenery and even though it is tourist friendly with plenty places to shop and eat it wasn’t over crowded and seemed a more place to live than a holiday resort.
I bought a Lacoste t-shirt from a small stall and went into the Lacoste shop and they sold the exact same t-shirt for 130ytl when I got mine for 25ytl! Bargain eh! So I would say that you need plenty spending money!
I will definitely go back there next year - but might stay in the Sámi plaza as it seemed a bit cleaner - because we noticed our towels in our room weren’t changed for 5 days!
Hope you enjoy your holiday there, there is plenty entertainment available and I would recommend atlantis bar just down from Sámi beach on the corner! It is great and the bar staff are really friendly with good English. Plus the lad on the door is English and quite hot!
Happy Gumbetting!

Where do I start.... if you want a hotel right on the beach with "late" entertainment and are not worried about cleanliness of your room or noise then this will be a great one for you.
If however you have young children then don't bother, although the staff were excellent and very friendly the rooms were disgraceful, and the noise unbearable, especially the older part of the hotel without the double glazing. We couldn't use the children’s pool because it is surrounded by trees which had about a thousand birds roosting every night so hence full of bird ****! It also didn't get any sun so very cold!
Although the hotel is on 3 floors there is no lift so we had to carry the push chair up 2 flights of stairs at least 3 times a day. It is also a problem for people with mobility problems.
Overall not a good holiday! - Incidentally I have been to Turkey 9 times, this has to be the worst I have experienced!

This is the first time I have booked my flights & accommodation separately.
I had read some bad reviews about this hotel after booking about the condition of the rooms. We arrived in the early hours and was greeted by the hotel reception, we checked in straight away and were taken to our room. The room was clean and tidy. Our room had a view over the swimming pool and we had a great view.
Hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly at all times. Food was great and had our Sunday lunch on the beach, would recommend this as it was good value for money, only 40 Turkish lira for 3 of us.
We all enjoyed the holiday so much, that we are booking to go back next year for two weeks.

Myself and my Fiancée have been to Turkey on about 8 occasions and to a number of different resorts.
We both agree that Gumbet is our favourite. The resort as a whole offers a lot for the family and single groups. The people are friendly wherever you go throughout the resort.
The beach is excellent and the Sami is positioned brilliantly for the beach. Walk out of the breakfast hall straight onto the beach.
The water stays shallow for about 30 meters so kids can go into the water without to much trouble. The hotels and restaurants serve good food with a friendly smile at most.
Like most resorts anywhere you will have people that find things wrong. I suggest trying it, Gumbet can get a little noisy if you are situated near to bar street but at the Sami we heard no noise.
Find one of the local barber shops if you are a man and have a proper shave, it's an experience not to miss.
Have fun, C Mace.

Excellent hotel with quality furnishings in spacious room. The bathroom did look a little worn although everything worked well.
Did not find noise to be an issue but did notice some brand new double glazed patio windows so this may have been a problem in the past. Like a previous poster mentioned only a couple of English speaking TV channels plus a Russian sounding pop channel with some English speaking music. Breakfast was reasonable with a choice of cereal to go with the usual hard boiled eggs and tomatoes.
Ideally situated on the beach, would certainly consider again.

I have stayed at this hotel for over 5 years, usually several times a year as I find it very convenient for beach, shops, nightlife. We always book direct with hotel as we get a much better deal on the room price and get Half Board basis also this way - usually end up saving at least £200 on brochure prices too!
Rooms are ok, lighting could be better and bathrooms def need upgrading. More rooms have TV’s now and have English speaking channels too this year (well 2 anyway CNN and BBC Prime).
Reception staff ok - most speak enough English to get by.
Food -
Breakfast - basic enough breakfast, plenty selection.
Beach Snack bar - this has really gone downhill this year, very disappointing as during the day when its so hot you don’t want to have to go too far for food but we ended up going along the road to their sister hotel, Sami Plaza where the food is far superior and actually much cheaper too.
Dinner - selection usually very good, have upgraded the display cabinets and have def improved the food.
Entertainment - ok if that’s what you want, however hasn’t changed much in all the years I’ve been going there, gets boring after a while!( you can only listen to Kiss Kiss so many times before it gets mega annoying!)
Beach area - much improved this year with big slouchy cushions in shaded areas on beach, which you can drag into sunshine if required - much comfier than lying on a sun bed, although these are also ok, better than others along the beach.
Room cleaning - some people moan that it doesn’t happen enough, however in my experience it's usually done every day, with clean towels every day and new sheets every other day. There are only a couple of cleaners this year and she often comes at strange times depending on where your room is situated but she’s a happy wee soul, we always give her a big tip.
Have also now introduced 2 PC’s downstairs this year for use by guests, very cheap to use them too!

The hotel staff were excellent, the selection of food served in the hotel restaurant was excellent. The pool area was very good, and the size of the pool itself was huge.
Unfortunately the only thing, which I didn’t enjoy, was the bathroom facilities in the bedroom. The bathrooms are in great need of a face-lift. The tiles were coming of the walls, and the shower faucet was badly damaged that it made showering almost impossible.
Apart from that the hotel, and bedroom was clean, and the location in the resort was excellent.

The hotel was very good as was the food. But the hotel has a pool bar that plays music very loud starting at 12am and did not stop any night for two weeks before 1.30 am also we did not book the Sami beach we
Booked the Sami plaza but upon arrival were told that it was fully booked also we asked for two rooms together as we have three children and again this was not done after moving once we had the rooms next door but one.
So unfortunately we will not be returning to either hotel as we could not guarantee which one we would be in and the staff made no attempt to either move us or turn down the music at midnight.

There were 17 of us that went to Hotel Sami Beach from the 19th July - 03 August 2004, we all thought that it was a great holiday. The rooms and the entertainment were good, as well as all of the waiters.
We went to the local aqua park, which was great value for money, although rather busy and also to Bodrum in one of the local Dolmuses. That was a good day out as well, you can go shopping and haggling for almost anything!
The food is lovely and the overall service that you get is absolutely brill! The Turkish are friendly and the Watersports are cool. Four of us went on the Ringos and we couldn’t stop screaming! Of course I was the one chucked off! We would all go back there again. Ali V is the man!

The hotel was ok, clean and together enough for a 3 star. The staff spoke English quite well and were very friendly. There were a few minor problems but not enough to tarnish a lovely holiday.
We ended up pinching toilet rolls off the room service trolley as they weren't replaced once used though the rooms were cleaned every day. When we arrived, it took a while before our rooms were found for us and one room had a dodgy lock that normally took 5 or 6 attempts to get into.
The music , rubbish English comedians, big brother and sky TV etc. playing in the bars were too loud to sleep with the windows open till about 2 AM, but the location caters for the young, so we expected that.
The breakfast was great, and self service, you could eat as much as you wanted but didn't cater for English style breakfasts though for £1 or 2, you could get a full English breakfast from most restaurants.
The sea was great and hammocks, sun beds and cushions were provided, all they expected was that drinks were bought from the hotel that provided them.
Sami beach entertainment suited club 18 - 30 types, crude and poor quality, pretty crap really, designed to attract passersby, then they'd hassle you to buy drinks, but the Park beach hotel had a fantastic Turkish night, the belly dance show was terrific and I'd advise anyone interested in Turkish dancing to go.
Local food is available but ask your rep what to order and where to go, as English may not be spoken at these restaurants. The Kebab shops in the street serve lovely kebabs, better than you'll see in UK.. Real lamb and chicken too. Food is really good value and very well done. You can get tables on the shore line too.
For good quality food, non pushy & friendly staff I'd recommend the Mistral. Free wine with steak or chicken dishes, soup and garlic bread all included for about £8. The staff at Sami beach were a pain, hassling you to buy drinks all the time.
Other places just had waiters wandering round that you could ask for drinks but they weren't continually hassling you as they do at Sami. Once you show your annoyance, they do eventually leave you be, but if you're there just 1 week, forget it!!
All the bars will have touts trying to get you to eat and drink at their place which spoils a stroll along the front in the evening you just have to learn to ignore them. Show the slightest interest and they follow you down the road extolling their restaurant's virtues and the fantastic deal you'll be getting there.
All in all, good value for money we'd recommend it.
