Malmaison Manchester Hotel

Just returned form a 2 night stay at Malmaison Manchester which felt distinctly average. On arrival the member of staff on reception wasn't especially friendly, but explained everything I needed to know in somewhat robotic fashion. No offer was made to show me to my room or assist with luggage, which given the room rate I would have expected. I was a little disappointed with my room, given the lavish claims in the hotel's website. My expectations of this place were extremely high - and it did meet my expectations. Went here as a birthday treat and the staff made us feel like celebrities - extremely friendly and polite. The chocolate velvet rooms were gorgeous - lots of luxury freebies filled the room - I didnt want to leave. However we couldnt stay for more than one night as we'd be busking on the streets for change, the prices here are EXPENSIVE. Worth it the once though...

Decided to stay here, rather than the Rossetti, for a weekend away with my girlfriend as on this type of weekend you want to stay somewhere seductive and I had a slight concern that the Rossetti would be a bit too cool for school, perhaps even a bit too shabby chic - ? Great funky hotel in the heart of Manchester - the standard rooms - have a trendy feel with fantastic facilities in room - corkscrew, wine glasses, iron, hairdryer, CD player etc... Fantastic funky bathroom which small but well designed. I have to say that the reception at night is a very romantic setting with red candle-light in the seating area - the bar was supa cool (drinks a bit on the pricey side) which are charged direct to your account. Just returned from a weekend at the Mal. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, lovely bar and relaxing spa. Top location for central Manchester - shops and restaurants in easy walking distance, and so handy for the train too. Staff were very helpful and room service really quick and hassle free. Would certainly recommend to others and hope to stay there again myself some time soon.

Just back from a night at the Malmasion and we really enjoyed it. We were in Manchester for the U2 concert. The hotel location was really good for us as we went straight from the airport to the train to the hotel. Everything we needed was within easy walking distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our first room at the back of the hotel in the old part was fine but not as good as the second one. There was pile-driving going on at a building site to the rear of the hotel and when I called reception they moved us straight away.... more

Just returned from a great weekend in Manchester and what made it so good was the Malmaison Hotel! After booking the hotel suite for 2 nights I stumbled across this website where I read several reviews, all very mixed which was concerning However whilst checking in all concerns were immediately erased! Forced to stay in the Mal,as all other descent Manchester hotels booked solid,reception staff surley,mind blowingly incompetent and indifferent to guests.Had booked two double rooms for 2 people reception found this concept beyond them stated that double room had to have 2 people in it,policy! Disgusted with this hotel - stayed here for our first night away since having a baby - went to bed and left 2 rings including my engagement ring on the bedside table. Was up and out quickly the next day as I had a massage booked and in our rush didn't pick the rings up. A few hours later realised and called the hotel - the cleaners had not handed the rings in. I saw the cleaners going into our room as we left - the rings we clearly on display - they would have seen them. Am disgusted that there could be a thief working on the hotels... more

Have stayed at the Mal in Manchester on several occasions and am a little baffled by the criticism. True, it isn't in a nice part of town but it is near the station and the rooms are as big -- or small -- as any in the Mal chain. The decor and rooms are the same as all the Mal chain. I've never had any problems with cleanliness or surly staff. In fact the only time I did feel the need to complain -- in writing to the Manager -- about a series of little mishaps that all added up to annoy me I was offered a 50% discount on my next stay.
