May 2007, Miss L Bowler

We were looking for somewhere fairly cheap over the Bank Holiday weekend and this seemed a very reasonable price. The website told us that the hotels' Arts Grill (restaurant/bar) was being refurbished - but no mention of any other works going on at that time. Well, we... more

This was the first time we had stayed at this hotel. First impressions were not good, a dark dingy corridor to negotiate to the lifts as the hotel occupies floors 2 and up. We arrived early at about 12.30 knowing that check-in was 2pm but we thought we would ask if our room... more

Dirty Dirty Hole
This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We only had 2 nights in Manchester and based on our stay at this hotel I would never venture back. The hotel is run down, dirty and an absolute shambles. This hotel should not have a 3*** rating, it should not have a rating at all. The room we stayed in was dark and dingy. It had stains on the walls, the windows were filthy and the bathroom was dirty and in need of a lot of work. This hotel should be knocked down as everything about it is totally inadequate.
Don't stay here!!
I found the hotel really really filthy. The bathroom was dirty, the carpets were sticky and to top it all off, my husband got bitten by fleas. Both his legs and his torso was covered in flea bites. I personally would never stay in this hotel ever again.
Whats All The Fuss about ??
Having read the other reviews I was worried before staying.... however the Hotel obviously would be better with some money spent on it but.... It was clean and really quite good. The hotel is right in the city centre so obviously as you venture outside onto the streets it can be interesting but thats any city centre and you cant hold the hotel responsible for what happens outside ! From the time of arrival the concierge was polite and parked my car for me - note Car Park and valet parking at this price in a city centre wow !!! the... more
Yuk
Good points: - Private parking right at the door. - Very central - Down the road from Manc Chinatown: good eats there. - WiFi in the reception and bar/restaurant areas (a lot of Manc hotels don't have it - becoming an essential as far as I'm concerned. - Overall, staff reasonably pleasant. Bad points - Spectacularly run-down. Frankly dirty. - Hardly any choice on TV. I didn't want to phsically handle the remote due to the generally scruffy vibe. - The foyer bar, which looks as if it might have... more
Dont stay here
Stayed here for a conference 4 July to 6 July 2005. The room was dirty, the carpet was threadbare and mould grew on the bathroom tiles. Everyone complained about the lifts which seemed to please themsleves and often did not stop at the floor you wanted it to. Many guests chose to the stairs! A colleague was pickpocketed outside and I did not feel safe walking the streets nearby. The hotel needs to be closed and a major refurbishment carried out.
Why is this hotel 3***?
Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and if there was any other available accomodation in Manchester that weekend we would have moved out straight away! ...the room was filthy, with stained and peeling off wallpaper, stained base on bed, human remains and dirt left on unhoovered carpet, limescale all around bath which had cracks in it and some unsightly green stain all around plughole, cracked wash-hand basin & paint peeling of bathroom door that is just the room! Lifts that work as and when they feel like, breakfast is more like a heart... more
OK for the money
The room was OK - a little scratched and knocked around - the bathroom was OK but the grouting needs replacing. The windows are metal and we could not see through them very well as there seemed to be a film on the glass. But it was clean, comfortable, quiet - it is very centrally located. The lifts are annoying as you have to get a lift from ground/street level up one floor to reception - the stairs are out of action. The dining room overlooks the square and the breakfast was OK - a little chaotic but overall we were... more
Just don't expect much...
I spent 2 nights in the Piccadilly on 3rd & 4th of June. It wasn't my first choice but it was the only central hotel available due to a big sports event. After reading the reviews here I lowered my expectations accordingly. The lift is a crazy ride which i found quite fun. More annoying is the fact that the lifts can be hijacked - Let me explain. You press ground floor from the 9th floor and it stops at the 3rd someone gets in and presses 11th floor. Up you go. If you're lucky you don't spend too long ricocheting between... more
Just Awful!
I was at this Hotel for a 2 night business trip, this Hotel is very much run down, the lifts worked intermittently (I was on the 14th floor), my room although quite clean stank of cigarette smoke, it also had a rodent trap situated at the foot of my bed, the breakfast buffet was barely warm both mornings and the juice glasses contained traces of lipstick. This is by far the WORST Hotel you will ever stay in, anybody considering this hotel should Book elsewhere. The only plus was the staff on duty who were very helpful but that can... more
