Very nice hotel for the money!
Read some of the reviews, and was a bit wary, but we booked one of the deluxe rooms with the four poster bed, and it was just the same as in the photo! The jazuzzi bath was wonderful and the reception area was very modern and stylish. Excellent location for the middle of town and the pubs and clubs - it's just a short stagger home at 2am! Maybe the other rooms were different, but a great view of Picadilly Gardens from the front balcony. Will be back!
Great Location
Clean and does the job hotel. room comfortable enough, quite spacious with all the usual facilites, yet i wouldnt visit the hotel in you are looking a hotel with a view. witihn 10 mins walking distance to chinatown, the arndale centre, all major shops and picadilly train and bus station. Old Trafford and the Trafford centre is about 20 mins by bus. Would definitely use again for its fantastic location.
Basic but does the job
This is the second time I have stayed here (yes I did go back so it cant have been that bad first time!) It's fine as a place to crash if you are staying over in Manchester, although I wouldnt go so far as to recommend it as a place you would want to hang around in for any length of time. The twin room I stayed in was on the small side and rather cold (if you get a window room, it's single glazed) so I took the bed by the radiator and put an extra blanket on. To be fair, I did have an ok night's sleep, even though for some... more
Dissapointed
I expected more of this place. Room was kind of OK, building is old and you cannot expect miracles. Very noisy place because of its location, with 24hr traffic and teenagers screaming in early morning leaving night clubs. Wireless internet in the loby is EXTREMELY poor, don't expect to use it - takes ~15 minutes to check your yahoo email. Don't use room-phone to call US - even if you dial "special" number you will pay 50$ for 10 minute call.
Bad!
No proper linen in a tiny hot room and not even a breakfast. Avoid.
very average!
I checked in just before half past nine but was told there was no way of getting any food at all. My room was without a window which I never minded at all but I was right next to the lift shaft and it was so noisy all night. Not a good nights sleep at all. The staff were not all that friendly, but not rude. For £55 it was average but with no breakfast, window or sleep I wouldn't say it was great value for money.
A basic hotel for budget travellers
The Gardens is a basic three star hotel aimed at budget travellers. I booked an internal room (no windows) which was situated next to the corridor. Every so often I could hear an incredibly loud mechanical noise which turned out to be the hotel lift. However I was assured by other patrons that the lift cannot be heard from rooms further down the corridor. The room itself was spartan but comfortable enough. The best thing about the hotel is its location - close to the main shopping area and drinking areas. However the area immediately... more
no complaints
We stayed one night in the Gardens Hotel Manchester and found the hotel and staff fine. We checked in and found a huge room at the front of the hotel, after leaving a dog kennel of a hotel in London. Upon checking the bathroom the horror of someones last night curry was still in the bowl. I went and complained to the girl at reception and she was horrified as was the cleaning lady. We were offered free drinks while they recleaned the room all the time chatting about Australia. Very down to earth and pleasant girls. Our room had... more
No complaints
After reading your reviews I went to the prebooked hotel with trepidation. The location was terrific, five mins walk, if that from Piccadilly train station, three minutes walk from the fountains gardens and the main bus and tram stops, immediatly next to shops a, pubs. restaurants and five minutes walk from the Arndale centre, cathedral and Art Gallery. The room was fine-with large window but overlooking a central square gulley, (How long do you actually spend looking out the window??) It also had the advantage of being very quiet... more
Rather sleep IN the garden
The hotel claims to have 24hr room service - it closes at 9:30 - along with the restaurant and the front door. Not much use when one arrives at 9:30pm! The stair railing was hanging off the wall with a notice not to use it (why not just fix it) and the room at the very top was like something from the Railway Children. The TV remote was in pieces. Breakfast? Overlooking a set of rubbish bins - very appetising…
