Looking for cheap parking can be difficult at the best of times. Although there was an offer we saw which included a night at this hotel, car parking for 8 days and a return transfer to the airport for £59 courtesy of parking4less. After pricing up car parking alone in... more

Stayed here for a couple of nights en route to Mexico. I know people who have stayed there previously who had been quite happy...but what a disappointment! The rooms, whilst basic, were clean. Bathroom was ok as well. The main problems were to be found in the public areas.... more

May 2007, cloudy

A one is generous for this hotel. We stayed at this hotel the night before we flew to Jamaica. First impressions were that the windows could do with a clean. The next impression was of a badly lit reception area that was most unwelcoming. The bar area bore little... more

This hotel appears to be part way through refurbishment with some areas looking new and modern and other areas being distinctly old and dirty. As an airport stopover hotel it is convenient and the staff were friendly. If you get a room that has been refreshed it is nice and... more

Awful hotel
I stayed in this hotel some 10 years ago when it was the Post House and then it was very good, but nowadays it is just a dump, the room was damp, draughty, dirty and the bathroom was full of mould. The bar area was poor, with large cigarette burns in the sofa's, and the food was poor, just frozen food heated up. On checkout at 4.30 am the reception was unable to provide a final bill because the bar had not given my food bill to the room account, bear in mind I had ate some 14 hours earlier, the printer in reception didn't work so I had... more
The Great Escape!
We travelled down to this hotel on new years day. Our daughter and son in law were travellign wit us, but luckily for them it was fully booked, so they got the Britannia Country House (which is about a half mile down the same road) When we saw the building we knew what we were in for - when we drove into the car park and saw the number of cars with broken windscreens taped over, we were even more nervous. We entered a lift that a room with holes in the wall, stuffed with sweet and crisp wrappers pubic hair inside the bed (unchanged... more
Complete (---)
This hotel was booked for us by a travel agent (we didn't choose it) as we needed to stay the night in Manchester for an early flight. After a long drive from Sunderland, we arrived at a depressing run down towerblock. We thought this can't be it... but it was. Parked the car in their "multi-story carpark" (2 floors) which barely had enough space to park a bike or headroom to open the boot. Security looked shady too. We checked in and were given a room on the eighth floor. The wires were hanging out of the lifts as the panels... more
No room at the Inn
We booked to stay in this hotel prior to an early flight in Sept 2006. We arrived at around 10.30pm. As we stood waiting to be attended to we overheard a couple being told they had been transfered to another hotel. When our turn came we completed the registration form and was then told our reservation had been cancelled. After several minutes of trying to convince them this was not the case we asked to see the email cancelling the booking. Suprise suprise we were then told the booking had not been cancelled but we had been transfered to... more
Not a good representation of English Hotels
This hotel is in serious need of a makeover, in the meantime a good clean wouldn't hurt. Seedy would be a good description. We knew check in time was 2.00 pm but arrived at the hotel at 12.30 because of our transport times from Northumberland. The clerk at the desk said we could check in as soon as the room was ready "in about 20 minutes"., however, at 1.30 pm she informed us that check in time was 2.00 pm! Not very helpful. The hotel is located on a busy road close to a freeway and very noisy from the traffic going all... more
Another Britannia hotel keeps to their standard
This is the 3rd Britannia I have stayed in and the last. I booked it for the free parking and it wasnt as expensive as some other hotels. Well the old adage "you get what you pay for" is spot-on. My only recommendation is spend a little more and avoid this place. Rooms are really not very clean. Which isnt a surprise as the fittings and furniture is way overdue for replacement. TV reception is poor. Food is below that of a motorway cafe. The car park spaces (for a bigger car) are very tight. The trip to the airport takes forever.... more
Dire Filthy
Just returned from a four night stay at the Britannia Airport Hotel in Manchester - what can I say!! Well plenty - it is probably the most filthy , appalling, scruffy hotel I have stayed in. The first room I checked into looked like it hadnt been cleaned in ten years - you could not see out of the windows they were so dirty, mould in the bathroom , filthy carpets etc etc! The breakfast/dinner were just dire - sour milk served at breakfast, reheated sausages. Evening meal consisted of vegetable soup swimming in grease, the buffet... more
Not good or bad
Well, having read the other reviews I think I must've stumbled into a different hotel! The Britannia was by no means a luxury hotel.. or even a three star to be honest but we found our room to be clean and well kept, the only complaint was that the outside of the windows couldn't ever have been cleaned since the hotel was built. Reception and bar area were OK, there didn't seem to be any yobs about but to be honest we went to bed very early as we had an early flight. The check in receptionist seemed to be grumpy and... more
loved the hotel!!
was great for just the night people say its horrible but you dont pay much for it! so why complain. we stayed for a night service was good food ok.
dirty and disgusting
This place does not improve with time, dirty grotty and disgusting, Hotel lobby quite pleasant but that is all, stairs and lifts filthy, bedrooms disgusting with thick dust, grime and stains. worst place I have ever stayed in. I wonder why the enviromental health does not shut it down as a health hazzard, DO NOT STAY HERE.
