anniversary dissapointment

Arrived at mottram hall quite impressed, even though the main entrance is a lightyear away from the carpark and resembles the back door of most other hotels.
After checking in, made our way down a corridor to our room, the corridor and window sills being littered with empty glasses, wine bottles, ice buckets and even room service trays with food on them, must have had a busy night with the footballers, i thought.
A walk around the grounds were a bit dissapointing even for this time of year, some of the lawns were completely under water and others churned up from the tyres of golf buggies.
Upon visiting the leisure centres pool area, we found it clean but cold and also a bit on the small side for a hotel of this caliber, especially being open to the public too.
As well as being cramped with the dozen or so people in there, the pool was overun with children hellbent on churning up the water and the tranquil atmosphere i had hoped for, there were areas in a state of disrepair, one of those being the ice cold jacuzzi.
many other parts of the hotel also showed a state of disrepair not associated with a hotel of this standard, far to many to mention.
The evening meal, whilst edible wasn't that nice, well if im honest, it knocked my wife sick and we had to retire early.
After breakfast the next day i left my room, still having to negotiate the same room service trays with my suitcase, and brave the stale ornamental beer glasses and wine bottles on the window sills.
However, its not all bad. The staff are some of the friendliest ive come across, the breakfast buffet was second to none and the room was clean and comfortable.

After reading some poor reviews we were apprehensive about our dinner bed and breakfast package.
The room was tastefully decorated and extremely clean, the bathroom was modern and again everything clean and fresh looking.
All hotel staff were extremely helpful and polite.
Evening meal in Nathanial's restaurant was excellent for flavour, the standard evening meal package menu allows for 3 courses (which normally costs £30). My husband had the battered cod meal and it was far from chip shop style!! It was well presented and extremely tasty, the meals looked like small portions due to the presentation but we were struggling toward the end and realised that the plates were actually huge which made the portions look a lot smaller. My parents highly recomment the sardines on toast starters they had, best they'd tasted!! The other choices were more expensive on the a la carte menu but you had a £20 allowance towards any meal chosen. (Most expensive was sirloin steak at £25) We finished off with bakewell tart and custard with fresh strawberry, it was delicious but I struggled to finish.
They also allowed us to take the complimentary bottle of wine from our room down to accompany our food.
Fantastic weekend

hi..i booked 1 night at mottram hall for a birthday surprise for my wife.we arrived at 14.10 in the afternoon.reception staff very helpfull.four poster room was outstanding,my wife was over-whelmed...food was a bit on the exspensive side when you looked on these leaflets in the room..hotel & grounds were great 10/10..
heres the shocking part..we went down at 21.30 for for our evening meal.we booked bed/breakfast/dinner for £240.00 + 49.00 for champ/flowers/strawberrys/chocs in the room when we arrived..when you pay this sort of price for 1 night. you want it to be a lovely meal. they have 2 menus..1 is for the package menu(main meals are fish+chips + pie + chips. 2nd menu had 8 oz steak etc.we had to pay extra to order from the the 2nd menu..so after the meal we were landed with a £50.00 bill for the 2 meals.there was up-roar with myself and the staff at the end of the night..but thats another 2 pages..so i will leave it at that..if i wanted fish+chips i would of gone blackpool .if i pay this sort of money .i want more than........you know the rest.never again

Dec 2007, JAS0103

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary. It is a truly magnificent hotel and they upgraded our room for free for our special occasion. Also included a free bottle of wine!
The leisure facilities were excellent. I especially enjoyed the pool, Sauna and steam room and jacuzzi. It was quiet an peaceful and truly enjoyable. The gymnasium looked well equipped with lots of help, but we didn't have time to go in.
The food was brilliant. We went on a two night offer with dinner on the first night included and it was great. The restaurant service was excellent and the food was even better.
The room was comfortable and clean, overlooking the golf course, it had great views.
Not far from the Trafford centre and also the sights in Manchester so there is plenty to do locally. A really great hotel.

Sep 2007, Mr M Clarke

I stayed here as part of a conference with work and was very impressed.
The rooms are a good size although some (not mine) were a bit of a walk from reception. Very comfortable beds and great size bathrooms
The food was generally really good with the exception of the lunch before departure. Strange mix of fish or pasta and if you like neither you were a bit stuck.
Didn't get to use the facilities such as the golf course, spa or pool but all looked really good.
The staff were friendly and very helpful and I am looking forward to staying here again.
