" My girlfriend and I (both aged 21)... "

My girlfriend and I (both aged 21) stayed here for 2 weeks in July 05. The hotel was great: we got the room we requested, very clean, excellent location on the beach front, wasn't too loud but the bars were only the other side of the road, weather was great!!
Everything you could ask for and exceptional service from staff.
However, there are a few points of interest which you may like to hear prior to booking, but if you have booked then don't be too alarmed!!

1. We went on a half board basis, however, there was only one restaurant which was free with this. The other two, which were advertised as being part of the deal, were simply normal restaurants that anyone could go to, only offering a 30% discount (with their prices being about 30% higher than anywhere else!!!). If this wasn't bad enough, the main (free) restaurant was rubbish: The same breakfast for two weeks (scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, fried tomatoes, two plain cereals, bread, toast, and don't forget the aubergines (which, if you love aubergines, you have come to the right place as they are served for breakfast and dinner everyday!!) In addition, if you wanted some "proper" food (i.e. a full English), you had to pay extra!!

2. The dinners were varied each night, however, there were only two main dishes to choose from with only a variety of salads etc to accompany. What was worse was that they never had any veggie options (with their idea of a vegetarian meal being removing the meat of the plate which usually left plain pasta or rice). Again, if you wanted, for example, a burger and chips, this cost extra which makes you wonder why the deal is half board!!

Away from the eating side of things, Gumbet is a very nice place itself and is well located. There are lots of water sports for the active and lots of places to chill for the inactive. A good day out would be to go on the boat trip which takes you out around the surrounding islands. NOTE: DO NOT GO ON ANY EXCURSIONS WITH YOUR TOUR OPERATORS AS THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!!! Instead, have a look around all of the locals and judge for yourself who to go to. For the boat trips simply go on who has the best boat!

A Turkish bath is ideal at the start of your holiday as it removes layers of dead skin which means you will get a better tan. Note: you will need to be oiled after the scrub which is not included in the price although it only costs £5-10.
The beach isn't great, it's a bit stony and not very wide ,although the water is very nice.

Nearby Bodrum is only a short taxi ride, or a half hour walk away, which makes for a nice excursion (although things are a little more expensive). The castle and marina in Bodrum are worth seeing.

As other reviews have pointed out, drinking can be quite expensive!! It was about £2 for a local pint (4/5 of a pint) and if you don't drink wine, everything else is expensive. The main reason for this is that everything gets imported to Kos and then imported Gumbet. International drinks, especially alcopops and archers etc, are very expensive (usually +£3 per drink).

Overall, this was a great holiday (with the exception of dining) and I would go back although maybe on a self catering deal.

" Excellent location. Rooms very clean... "

Excellent location. Rooms very clean (but no drawers in room - you have to leave half your clothes in your case!).Free air con. Grounds and Pool very clean. Ducks, Chickens, Tortoises, and Cats all wander around the grounds. The staff are all friendly. There is evening entertainment at the hotel (I have seen worse).

The only thing stopping this hotel being perfect is the food, the choice is very limited (both breakfast and evening meal). Breakfast consists of hot dogs, tomatoes, fried potatoes with aubergines and sometimes scrambled eggs - there is no fruit other than oranges and grapes, cornflakes or bran are your choice of cereal, there is always a good salad selection. the Evening meal has a limited choice, a limited sweet selection but again a good salad selection. So be prepared to eat out alot - I find it strange that all the restaurants offer bacon, pork sausages, fried eggs, Heinz beans and mushrooms, yet the Park Palas does not?- unless you want to pay in one of it's other restaurants and get a 30% discount (Breakfast and Evening meals only).

Be warned, Turkey is not cheap anymore. The local traders are not a problem if you speak politely to them and tell them you are just looking.

You need go no further than the Aloha Bar (30m across the road from the hotel) for an excellent night out, shuts 3 - 4 am or not?

All said and done we had an excellent holiday, so you decide if basic food and no drawers in your room would spoil yours.

" I have just come back from a week at... "

I have just come back from a week at the Parkim Palas hotel and I have to say I had a great time.

The hotel itself is lovely to walk around with all the flowers, hammocks, the beach,... The pool is lovely with very helpful staff that are on hand for refreshments. The room was basic but had all the essentials and the free air-conditioning and BBC Prime and MTV on the telly were and added bonus. The rooms were cleaned on a regular basis by a lovely cleaner who kept leaving our towels in heart shapes with flowers from outside. And all the staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. If you are going definitely check out Turkish night its great fun for all!

My only slight negative would be the food in the evenings was never very exciting but with surrounding restaurants offering 30% off for staying at the parkim palas your choices for dinner do not have to be limited to the hotel!
" I have just came back from Turkey, I... "

I have just came back from Turkey, I stopped at the hotel Parkim Palas and it is brilliant the rooms are basic but are cleaned daily towels sheets the lot,

The breakfast is also just ass good but does get bit boring because they have little change daily the dinners are beautiful the waiters bar staff entertainer are brilliant the receptionist and managers are just as good aswell

It is a hotel that I would recommend to anyone.

Also the gardens are well maintained with beautiful trees and sun loungers and hammocks.

The only problem is the drinks are expensive.

" We found this hotel to be of a very... "

We found this hotel to be of a very good standard for Turkey, with good food and plenty of choice. The pool was very good and the staff very helpful. The gardens were a delight to walk through and sit in. The weather was very hot so we did not move far from the pool most days. We went on two trips booked through Queens Travel which were great and the Turkish bath was well worth the visit.
We found all the Turkish people friendly even the ones trying to get us into the shops and bars. Try the Atlantis or Corner bar for a good night out which are both with in 2mins from Parking Palas.

Overall a great holiday!!
" Was looking for a fairly peaceful... "

Was looking for a fairly peaceful holiday, so was a bit worried when we first encountered the usual troops of personalised Stag/Hen do t-shirts with Gumbet 2005!!!

Luckily the Parkim Palas was not set on the main Bar Street, so you can choose if you want to do the usual 18-30's bar run, or just chill out in one of the bars down by the beach.

Great restaurant just opposite if you want to get away from the canteen type food in the hotel.... although if you want some more authentic Turkish food I would recommend taking the short bus ride into Bodrum.

I was quite surprised that the resort is quite expensive compared to the UK especially as they haven’t joined the Euro yet, although some of the bars were open to negotiation.

Hotel it's self was very clean, and great location with the beach and it's many watersports. Very handy to try and get a hammock in the garden area’s if the heat is a bit too much.

As far as excursions are concerned would recommend the Turkish bath, but wouldn’t pay the extra money for an additional massage.
Overall great holiday :)

" First visit to Turkey, and have to... "

First visit to Turkey, and have to say it is without doubt a beautiful Country. The hotel was excellent, rooms are very clean, and compact. Every thing on the complex is at hand, Swimming pool, bar, dinning area, beach etc.
The staff are very friendly and the entertainment in the beach bar in the evenings is first rate. The food is basic but gets you through a long day as their is plenty of it if you wish.
I must recommend Tysons (front of beach bar) boat trip its very good and the crew are great fun.
Also the Turkish bath excursion run by Thomas Cook in Bodrum. All in all we shall be looking to book at the same hotel for 2 weeks next year as it is a great hotel.
" What a great place! Resort was... "

What a great place! Resort was excellent with loads to do. Great nightlife, boat trips and excursions.

Hotel was excellently situated on the beach and just off bar street. Our room was near the beach and very quiet.

Meals out in all the restaurants were excellent and cheap - Huge Porterhouse Steak for £6 with free bottle of wine!

Food in the hotel was ok but a bit repetitive - breakfast was the better of the two meals.

Went to Yakilavak and Turgutreis on bus trips both lovely and bus cheap.

Highly recommended to anyone wanting to visit Turkey. We’d previously been to Altinkum and Marmaris but this was the best resort of the three.

Only real down side was the hassle from the restaurant/bar owners and the price of drinks - which was more expensive than we expected!

" We have just arrived back from our... "

We have just arrived back from our holiday. It was our first time in Turkey. We found that the hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly (there is always at least one English speaking person on reception), and the rooms were ok.

The hotel food was very disappointing. There is a very limited choice at dinner, and the breakfast is mostly traditional Turkish, which consists mainly of olives, tomatoes, boiled eggs and aubergines. Breakfast is served 8-10am and dinner is 8-10pm (best to get there early at dinner as queues form very quickly).

Local drinks are very cheap, 4 lira for a pint, but imported drinks can get pricey. A Jack Daniels and coke for 16 lira, which is just over £6.

The only major thing that went wrong with the holiday was on our last day. We had an MP3 player taken from our hotel room, but couldn’t do anything about it without going to the police station in Bodrum. Make sure you get a safe in your room which is 36lira for 2weeks, its worth it.

The locals are very friendly, and the Aloha Bar is brilliant. It is situated just opposite the hotel. Many bars give you a free shot on entry, and remember to try and barter for your drinks.

" We have just arrived back from... "

We have just arrived back from Gumbet. It was our second time in Gumbet but our first time in Parkim Palas.

The hotel itself was lovely, with gorgeous gardens, which also had hammocks you could relax on if u wanted. Our room was basic but nice and was cleaned everyday also the towels and sheets changed daily. There was free air conditioning, which was very handy. The food was ok, didn’t see much of the breakfasts as found it was a little early (8-10am), but the dinners were edible.

All in all we enjoyed our holiday very much and me, my mum and my son are looking forward to going back once again towards the end of the season.

" This was our third holiday in Turkey... "

This was our third holiday in Turkey but our first in this area. Gumbet had a bit of everything - loads of bars, nice views, an array of excursion sellers and wonderful friendly people.

We stayed on a Half Board basis at the centrally located Parkim Palas hotel. The food at the hotel was generally good at both breakfast and dinner. Our room was a little compact but had free air con and satellite TV with BBC Prime, which meant the missus didn’t have to go without her daily dose of Eastenders!! We went on two boat trips - one from our hotel, booked with Tyson and the other from the Hotel Baba, which offered an alternative route - both were excellent and highly recommended!!
The highlight of our visit was the Corner Pub at our hotel where we had great banter every night with the 3 lads who work there Volkan, Volkan and Onur - brilliant!!
We visited Turgutreis market and picked up loads of bargains on a coach trip that cost us the princely sum of £1 each!!
Overall, a brilliant holiday!!

" Lovely hotel, staff really friendly... "

Lovely hotel, staff really friendly and entertainment very good. The only downside was that the evening meal was at 8pm, which is a bit of a long wait from breakfast.

The complex was very clean and not one cockroach to be seen. I would recommend visitors to have a Turkish bath, but do not go with the travel companies excursions as they charge way over the odds, go to the other operators as they are well cheaper and they do have insurance included.

For the genuine fakes go to Michael’s stall which is situated down the right side of the road on the opposite side, it is the last stall on the block, he is very friendly and seemed to be the most honest stall owner I had met. Overall a great place lovely beach and for about 3 quid you can buy a snorkelling kit and explore the fish in the bay.

" We just got back from Gumbet and what... "

We just got back from Gumbet and what a fab place. First time in Turkey and loved it so much. I had such a fab time so much to do and after 2 it is buzzing. Parkin Palas is in a brilliant location you can’t get better. The food is very basic but is doesn’t matter as it is so cheep to eat out.

The second week we was the we decided to go to the water park in Bodrum, so before we went we took our jewellery off and put it in the safe. When we returned we went to the safe to get our jewellery out and money for the evening. As I did so, I put my diamond earrings, Gold chain, bracelet and rings, which have the value of £500, on the desk of the reception and turned to get my money. I walked off for 30 secs and realised my jewellery was still on the side so I ran back and it had gone. The safe is at the side of the reception, which is hidden so people walking in the hotel would not see and as I was gone for 30 secs no one had been to the safe. My dad went mad at the manager and insisted for the police but he refused to call them. So we had to go to the police station in Bodrum ourselves. Beware of leaving expensive goods round the hotel. Apart from that it was a great holiday.

" Having waited so long for a holiday... "

Having waited so long for a holiday without the kids. We finally managed to get our second honeymoon at the Parkim Palas. We found the hotel to be of the highest quality, the room was spacious, the food very good and varied (3 main choices each night and excellent mexes).and the hotel was very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even our cleaner who made sure we had everything we needed. Situated on the beach(free beds)you will not need to go to far to top up your tan!! Overall a great holiday in a great resort.
