Britannia Ashley Manchester Hotel

I stayed here (thankfully) for just the one night during a business trip. I was appaulled when we arrived that our room was still being 'cleaned' I use the term loosely! The photo's attached portray this hotel accurately. There is nothing to it's merit. Upon check in, after leaving the car in the Supermarket's car park (very reluctantly) I could've cried when I saw the room. I had thankfully, taken something to wear in bed, I was sleeping with one eye open hoping and praying the sheets wouldn't touch my skin..... gross, filthy. I would... more

We stayed here and after 1 night left and called in environmental health !!!! Safe to say they at the time were not approved by any local tourist agency and although E. Health did not find anything we were subjected to mould on the fruit juice, poor service in the breakfast room, dirty cutlery, flaking windows, stained carpets , stained bedding, faulty door handles, rude staff , the list continues .............

We were here to teach some workshops and stayed about a week. This is definitely a funky hotel, but the staff were nice. They seemed used to all the problems and took complaints in stride. The meeting room was very nice and airy, with lots of windows. It's only downfall was the temperature. It was either drafty or too hot. The sleeping rooms left a lot to be desired. I too made the mistake of staying here before an early flight from Manchester. The photos on the website are rather misleading to say the least! The hotel is located in a very pretty town but acutally attached to a very unattractive 1970's supermarket whose car park you have to use. The hotel reception reeked off the bored receptionsists smoke. I was a single female on my own with 2 small children but was offered no help whatsover with my luggage. We stayed here one night in July before an early morning flight from Manchester airport. While the location is OK - nice suburb but the hotel is over a supermarket- the hotel is not as portayed in the publiciity. You have to drag suitcases up two short flights of stairs to the elevatoer. No help is offered. Our room was small and in poor repair. The bedspread was so dingy looking that I didn't sleep all night for fear that I might touch it. Avoid this place unless they renovate.

At the beginning possibly of one of the worst hotels ever. Arrived NO CAR PARK !! apart from Somerfield next door which is a small car park for the shoppers and payable. Room allocated -- both bedside lamp shades broked and left hanging from the frames, wallpaper ripped and hanging from the wall, burns on television. Reported to reception but not much response, travelled further into the room - NO TOILET SEAT !! It was propped up against the wall. This hotel was greatly mis-represented online. This was in my opinion an expensive hotel and it was to put it bluntly, a dive. The room was awful, the hotel was run down, our bathtub faucet leaked all night. The only thing that kept us there was that we were only staying one night before flying home to Chicago. Very disappointing.

A strange place - someone on the staff is very keen on using WordArt to produce numerous amateur posters which are stuck to every available wall (eg. "Why not have your FUNERAL here?" in gaudy letters). I agree with the other reviewer's take on the staff - when asked what time breakfast was, I was told very brusquely that "breakfast was not included" (as it happens, we had it anyway - it was surprisingly good - and we weren't charged - ha!). Spent last Saturday nignht in this hotel,e xpecting, for the price, at least a decent standard of service and accomodation. From the first arrival, and the surly, inexpert greeting, we were very dissappointed. As per the last review, the lift still isn't working, a year on. The room, at first glance, was well laid out, but, upon inspection, was actually dirty, I could write my name in the dust on every surface! We recently flew in and out of Manchester, England ( a great round trip fare!) in order to complete a 10 roundtrip "holiday" of the Lake District and Scotland. We booked our first and last nights through ... for a sleeping guarantee. We even upgraded (number of stars) for our last night, thinking we would leave our English memories on an "up" note.
