Good Hotel
Lovely country house feel to this hotel. bedroom and bathroom were clean and as you would expect for a 5 star hotel. Had some beauty treatments whcih were heavenly and very reasonably priced. Dinner in the Bronte restaurant was nice, although dress code is very out of date. We managed to by pass it by speaking nicly to the manager! I can not understand the negative reviews! It is well worth a stay!
Disappointing for a De Vere
I stayed here in Aug 2005 with friends for a Hen do. While I expected a great hotel with the De Vere name attached to it, it is not what we got. The rooms were fine, reasonably spacious but not large and clean enough. Comfortable but not fantastic. The main problem as mentioned before was the number of weddings. When we arrived the lounge area was full of guests recovering from the previous nights excesses. This meant that there was nowhere for us to sit down. Other lounge areas were closed to general guests as they were... more
Improving - but watch out for weddings
I have stayed here numerous times in recent years. This is a lovely hotel, and is far better than most British hotels. Even on their worst days, you have to admire the building and its location. Having just returned from a 3 day / 2 night trip, I'm pleased to say that staff training seems to have improved rapidly. Whilst still very young, everyone I dealt with was very pleasant. The rooms are also looking good, albeit that the bathrooms are in need of refurbishment. Even breakfast service was good, albeit in that 'fry up buffet'... more
Not what I expected
Definitely not a five star hotel. Service was average at best. Tried 3 times to eat in the main restaurant and after being made to wait 30 minutes on each occassion was finally told there was no table for another hour or longer. As there was no other option I dined in Blayds and although the food was fine the menu was limited and the sauces were produced in plastic sachets! Not a five star experience in my book. On one occassion after asking for a drink I was told that the bar staff weren't available as they were making a sandwich! Blayds... more
ambles along in 4star nonchalant way
reception and concierge lack guest interaction-bedrooms are small-some noise-restaurant is excellent-building ,garden and location are fantastic-lots of staff but not many smiles(except housekeeping and restaurant)-got a great deal but not 5 star.We are trying all the De Veres--Southampton was much better.
First Rate Hotel
We stayed here for one night before heading off to Royal Ascot at York. By booking late we got a fantastic rate of only £150.00 for dinner bed and breakfast when we found others has paid upwards of £500.00 for the same. We arrived at 4pm and I was amazed even as we pulled up outside the hotel. The grounds were amazing and the hotel itself looking like a county manor. We booked in and were taken to our rooms, nothing out of the ordinary but very comfortable. What made the stay for me was two things, firstly, the lesiure... more
Beautiful surroundings
Oulton Hall is in a beautiful setting and you couldn't get a nicer place for a romantic weekend away. Room was lovely overlooking the gardens. Fantastic stay but was let down by the restaurant - overpriced for the standard of food although was impressed by the variety of the menu. Bar was also very expensive.
Disappointing
We recently booked a 2 night Winter Escape package at Oulton Hall for our Silver Wedding anniversary which included a decanter of port, current glossy magazines, a fruit bowl, upgraded toiletries and £25 per person per night against the cost of dinner. We found our stay unacceptable for a 5* hotel. The good points were that the staff were friendly, the gardens beautiful and the breakfasts were very good. However, the service and housekeeping standards were very below par. On our arrival the entrance to the hotel was very dirty. On entering... more
Grand but not quite a 5* experience
A grand hotel with excellent public rooms, top class restaurant and good leisure facilities. Having stayed in quite a few Devere hotels we expected the 5 star status of this hotel to make it stand out from the rest of the chain, but it didn't. We were disappointed that the Lounge, Drawing Room and half of the Bar were cordoned off for private functions on one day, which left mere residents with few places to sit and chill out! We also did not feel that the staff 'went the extra mile' during our stay (a lot of them seemed young and... more
