First impression with the hotel is quite negative. It is almost impossible to find in Sheffield due to the name being the Royal Victoria AND Holiday Inn. The Royal Victoria name did not become aparent until we arrived, and my GPS did not have a record of a Holiday Inn or... more

I would not recommend to eat there...
Stayed at Holiday Inn Sheffield two nights. We paid the first night with Priority points (Executive Room) and booked the second night as advance purchase (standard room). Overall decor was quite old-fashioned reminded me of film 'Shining'. However, executive room was very nice. Spacious, nicely decorated, comfy beds, complimentary drinks strawberries so on.. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant the first night. I would not recommend it. Very expensive, below-average food and slow services although staff were polite and friendly. Good news... more
Hotel okay, standard rooms need renovation
Stayed here for one night in May with my daughter. The standard rooms are past their best, but bathrooms have been upgraded. The walls however are paper thin and I had to call reception at 12.45am as the man in the next room was shouting abuse at someone on the phone on and off for ages. We had to move rooms at 1am as it was impossible to sleep, however in fairness to the hotel we were moved to an executive room which was better refurbished with bigger bathroom etc. It is an old hotel, with plenty of parking which is not easy in... more
If you like concrete boxes, this isn't your type of hotel
Built in around 1865, this grand station hotel would have been splendid in its heyday, albeit noisy before the Great Central railway closed in 1966. Sadly, the drive for ever more profit has led to the rooms being sub-divided to squeeze more guests in. Some of the rooms have ended up too small or an awkward shape as a consequence. And the railway is all but gone (one track with a once a day service running). I was lucky and on my two stays in that I always had attentive staff in reception and elsewhere and received complimentary... more
£25 for breakfast......you're having a tin bath!
For £106 a night, the Executive room was well above our expectations. Loads of space and the bathroom was also very impressive. There was a strange odour in the room, not overpowering but you did question what it was! The big down side to this hotel is the exorbitant amount you pay for breakfast. £25 for two, you got a cup of tea and a cold English buffet breakfast. Take a trip into Sheffield for breakfast; it's impossible to do worse! The hotel is a distance from the restaurants and drinking establishments so take a taxi... more
What a great disappointment
I am not too easily disappointed by hotels but my recent experience at this establishment was most distressing especially as I have come to expect a lot the Holiday Inn brand. Unusually for me, I arrived at the hotel at a decent hour to find the reception quite deserted. After some considerable while, I heard the sound of voices from behind the counter and practiced my politest cough which developed into a coughing fit before I managed to attract the attention of a member of staff. I was dismissed to find my own way to the room via... more
Average hotel and average service
My mum and I booked to stay at this hotel 25-27 November 2006, requesting a non-smoking room. We arrived at the hotel around noon and the receptionist advised us that, as check in was not (strictly speaking) until 2pm there may not be a room available. On checking, he advised us that there were only smoking rooms available at that time and advised that we would be upgraded to an Executive room.. I expressed concerns that the room would smell very smoky, but he assured me that it would not. On arriving at the room we found that... more
Fine for a short stay....
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sheffield last weekend and were pleased with everything there. After a small problem getting into the room - which was quickly sorted - we found it to be comfortable and had everything we needed. The room was quite small but perfectly clean and the bathroom had obviously been recently refurbished. Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could think of, and as much as you liked - we also appreciated the fact that breakfast went on to 11am on Saturday morning. Parking is great - lots of it and very... more
Great Suite 1862, Great hotel, Great Location
Stopped at the hotel as a overnight stay when watching a show at the Hallam Arena. The venue is just up the road from the hotel(which is in the city centre). It can be a little difficult to find but if you follow the brown tourist signs from the city centre you will have no problems. We stayed in the 1862 Suite (booked via 15000 priority club reward points)it consisted of 4 rooms in total (Dining, Lounge, King Bedroom and Bathroom). Bathroom was huge with seperate shower and spa bath. Staff were very friendly and total experience was... more
Well above average
Booked this hotel following previous good reviews; they were not wrong. We booked a twin (room 164), which actually gives you two doubles and a v. large room by city (or most other) standards. Dinner pretty good, with excellent service; breakfast had the most amazing choice, with full English, Continental, array of fruit, cereals, dried fruit, and very attentive but not obtrusive service. Excellent secure parking. Highly recommended, but if you are unfamiliar with Sheffield suggest you take a good city map; I have been there 3 times and... more
