Our friends purchased a wedding gift of a £50 voucher for us to enjoy a belated honeymoon which we decided on Friday 24th through to Saturday 25th July at the Rutland Square Hotel Unfortunately our experiences during this visit were not of the same high quality we had... more

Good staff, terrible rooms
I have stayed at the Rutland many (over 20) times on business, after each stay I always tell myself to delete the number from my phone. The only reason I go back is the staff, they are very friendly and helpfull and far better than Holiday Inn Express. However the hotel is in desparate need of updating. Some rooms are incredibly small, the hotel recognise this and on some floors have knocked 2 rooms into 1. However they havent bothered to change the layot so the bathrooms are still small. Non of the windows close in ANY room, the shower heads are broken and most of the taps dont work. The toilet is 1 inch away from the wall and the seat which is always loose never stays up. I hope managment read this review and do something make some changes. It could be a nice hotel.
Not worth it for the price
The location of the hotel is good, on a quiet street but only a couple of minutes walk to all the bars and restaurants. Plus free parking for guests in the square right in front of the hotel was really useful. That's about it for the positive stuff though. Basically the hotel needs a complete revamp. It was obviously quite nice about five years ago, but now the decor is dated and there are worn patches and holes in the furniture. Our room was small and quite dark, the kettle didn't work and the air conditioning unit practically fell off the wall when we touched it by accident. There was also quite a lot of mildew round the bath. It seemed clean enough and I certainly didn't mind spending a night there but I would have had issues with staying there for more than a couple of days. It was also pretty cold and we couldn't turn the radiator on. We paid £65 for a twin room without breakfast and judging by the other reviews on this site there are much better hotels available for a similar price. My advice is if possible avoid the Rutland and stay at the holiday inn or jury's doyle instead. But if there really isn't anywhere else to stay, this place is liveable for a night or two.
Tiny rooms
Booked three nights through Late Rooms ... very good price, but the room was miniscule. Great location, ok breakfast ... and if all you want to do is sleep and check out, then its fine. As a place to stay for pleasure, I would suggest you look elsewhere.h
I dont know what everyone thinks is wrong with it.
I don't undertsand why everyone is so negative about this hotel. It was a couple of years ago when we stayed there (well May 2003) and we loved it. The location was brilliant - away from noisy roads but still close to the centre shops and bars and really close to the castle - it made a nice pleasant walk. The rooms were a little small i'll admit but who goes away to spend time in a hotel room? It was nice and clean and modern as was everywhere in the hotel so you can't complain there. We both really enjoyed the breakfasts although ate our other meals out so I can't comment on the restaurant. The only problems we had were finding the place on our first night but part of that was because the city was in the middle of loads of roadworks and road closures/diversions. Wasn't the best car park but I have to say the other reviews on this site don't reflect upon anything we found to be at the hotel.
Don't believe the Sales Pitch, Just Dreadful
I booked a stay here through Late Rooms, comparing the hotel to others on the site. Money wasn't the major factor however it's favourable rates and sales pitch were persuasive. The central location of the hotel and it's apparent luxurious (from the photo) entrance hall put it ahead of the Holiday Inn Express and those of that ilk (too many business trips!!). Oh my goodness, what a shock I got when entering the room. There was nothing to say that I wouldn't be able to walk around the bed and that there was virtually no floor space to put anything. Have spent the last four days manoeuvering things in and out of my case which has been a nightmare. The walls were stained and the bed covers smelt. At least the Easyhotel in London is honest about what you are going to get so there are no suprises when you get there. The only advantage is is that you are in the city centre - but I could have gone to the Holiday Inn and known what I was going to get rather than being duped into staying in a cell-like room. The staff were pleasant enough but in no way compensate for the dreadfully dark, minute and odourless rooms which lurk on the floors above. Good enough if you are only going to be sleeping there although if you are drunk the lack of space to manoeuvre has the potential to cause you injury!
Cold and Damp
Restaurant Nice. Rooms Cold and Damp - No heating, wasn't fixed while I was there had to take my own radiator in from work! Near the city centre.
