Very good 3* Hotel
from APUK
I stayed at this hotel recently for business. It has undergone a complete refurbishment and is a very good standard for it's 3* rating. The rooms are clean & modern with a choice of pillows which is a Holiday Inn thing. The bathrooms are a bit small and could do with modernising, toiletries are also very basic, otherwise I can't fault this hotel at all. I would recommend it to business travellers on short stays.
Meeting brings us to Nottingham
from Donnas
Stayed 4 nights at this particular Holiday Inn and we were pleased with the accommodations. If you enjoy walking...the major attractions are well within walking distance. However, taxi service was GREAT! The only major draw back for my husband and I was...not able to used the internet service that was offer for customers...they were having problems with the system, so in order for my husband to say in touch with the academic world, he had to use the computer in the lobby area (as did everybody else)... Once the renovations are completed, I believe this Holiday Inn will be a very nice facility at a very reasonable rate.
Very comfortable

A last minute visit to Nottingham, struggling to find accommodation, we found the Holiday Inn, Castle Marina, Nottingham (not to be confused with the Holiday Inn, City Centre) very pleasant. A short distance from the City Centre, there was ample Car Parking, and we had a generous ground floor room, not at all noisy. When we returned late at night for drinks, the bar was crowded, but without us even having to ask, the bar staff guided us to another little reception room where our small party could drink comfortably & in private.
Great hotel at a great price

They're refurbishing here. Almost finished and the result is great. Looking to get a 4 star rating but still charging 3 star rates. only £70 bed and breakfast for two of us. Free parking and a pleasant 20 min stroll into the city centre. Room was a good size, had ironing board and iron!! tea and coffee. Clean and tidy and comfortable bed. Only problem was that it was too warm and impossible to turn heating off or down (unless I was missing the obvious!) Bar good although a bit pricy. Breakfast excellent, tables set out immaculately. Staff set tables night before wearing white gloves so as not to get finger marks on cutlery. top marks. Cutlery was nice design too. Will definately stay here again.
Handy for Sainbury's & McDonalds

I hate going to Nottingham - our monthly business meeting means a 400 mile round trip & a night over - at least this time I was not in the Rutland. Castle Marina sounds good - you could imagine some nice craft gently bobbing next to hotel gardens - no this is Nottingham & Castle Marina is a Retail Park 1/2 mile + from the town centre - a good 20 minute walk along a well policed (they have had some trouble) toe path. So unless you want to do the shopping, buy a sofa & carpets & have a big Mac ( right next to hotel) then this is not the location for you. To be fair the hotel is OK - recption well staffed & very helpful, the small bar & eating area are to the rear of recption ( Ala 'Crossroads Motel') - the bedrooms are both on ground & upper levels. The furnishings are all early 1990's & although clean & tidy are dated - but a comfy chair & self control air-con is to its credit. Bathrooom was very clean - but oh so cheap loo paper! Breakfast was fine - plenty of coffee & hot toast & cooked 'english' if you want. Ok for one night business trip & someone else paying - but no longer unless you really like spending time on an old retail park. Eating out -try the restaurant behind Pizza-Hut - a TGI Friday type of place which was good.
Good place to stay

My husband and I stayed her for one night and our experience was good. The hotel room was clean and the staff very friendly. It is very much like any Holiday Inn in North America. It's about a mile into Nottingham, a 20 minute walk, but it's also an easy drive into the city. A lot of the hotels in the town centre can be expensive and this was a good valued place to stay. They have their own bar and restaurant but there are others close by and a Macdonald's as well. Plenty of parking. We would stay again.
Upstairs, downstairs
from A TripAdvisor Member
The refurbished downstairs of this hotel is really quite smart. The lobby, bar and restaurant areas are quite compact, but freshly decorated and pleasant. The bedrooms are not as newly updated. Sizewise, they are fine. But they are tired. Soft furnishings in the rooms have had their day, look grubby and need changing. That aside, the bed was good and the bathroom, altho in unfortunately dated colours, was clean and in good condition. Even the furniture was OK. But the faded colour scheme let the room down badly and made it all a bit depressing and shabby. Corridors too need a fresh lick of paint and new carpets - dusky pinks on the floor and walls (with dado borders) felt more than a bit left over from the 1980s !! Breakfast was really rather good. It's not a big restaurant but we went down early and ate and were served well. On mentioning on check-out that I felt it was a shame that downstairs didnt match upstairs, the staff at Reception gave the impression they had heard it all before. A shame really. At the end of the day, all the effort in refreshing the public areas is pulled down by the memory of a rather tired bedroom. With a little bit of money freshening up the rooms, this could be a really good Holiday Inn.

I recently stayed at the Garden Court with my son and the Staff were very helpful. Room service was very good and staff were very polite. I would certainly stay again. You pay for what you get and this "Holiday Inn" gives the best they can. I give them 4**** signed Harvey Sands.
Worst Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in - EVER!
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed earlier this year. What an awful hotel. 1. There was black mould growing around the window frame in the room. 2. There was mould starting to grow around the bath. 3. When I tried paying for some drinks in the bar with a credit card the barman had a go at me. Despite the fact that the bar accepts credit cards, he moaned at me that I was causing him hassle because it meant that he had to go to front reception to swipe my card. 4. The seating in the bar area had holes in it. The foam was coming out of the seating. 5. The seating in the restaurant area had holes in it. The foam was coming out of the seating. 6. The hotel appeared to employ a group of 16 year olds to run the restaurant at breakfast. The staff clearly did not know what they were doing. It took several attempts to get clean cutlery on the table. It took several attempts to get served. Most of the staff were more interested in chatting to each other than serving anyone. Apart from the reception staff and the room cleaning service, it just seemed that no one in the hotel could be bothered. I have stayed in numerous holiday inn hotels throughout the world and never had reason to complain. I am always very impressed. On this occasion, I wrote to holiday inn. They contacted me saying the standards were not acceptable in the hotel and they would take the matter up with the management. I believe that this hotel is a franchise.

Booked via the Holiday Inn Web Site and received a good discounted rate. The rooms are standard fare for Holiday Inn and are well presented with a decent bathroom and tea/coffee facilities. The hotel is in an ideal location, just outside the city at the "marina" and there... more
