We booked Dinner & Breakfast for one evening and had the most enjoyable weekend. We arrived early afternoon on the Saturday and spent the first couple of hours wandering round the cobbled street area, and having lunch in the tea shop, followed by several hours in the... more

Family reunion
from swissfam
We booked the Last Drop for a family reunion between Christmas and New Year. There were 23 of us including 6 children for one night DBB. The staff were very helpful and the evening meal round a large table created a memorable atmosphere. With the addition of the excellent spa and pool facilities a good time was had by everyone.
Nice spa
from goodship
The spa has a heated jet pool that is open air overlooking the moors which is very nice. The rooms were fine but the food was terrible we booked for two nights DBB and didn't bother with dinner on the second night it was so bad.
Not Bad but could Do Better
from bobly54
I travel throughout the uk on business and stay in many hotels. When I remeber I use Trip Advisor to see what other people think. I did on this trip and read somebody saying it was expensive but thought I would give it a go as I managed to get it for £70 B&B, by booking direct through their web site, cheaper then any other site. As I arrived in the dark and a bit late i did not use the pool etc and could not comment on the grounds. The room was opposite the main building, room 18 and was ok but could do with a refurb the bed was big and comfy. The bathroom was in need of modernisation too. I decided to eat in the Steak House so had pint to start, that was £3.00 which I thought was too expensive. I then had a look at the wine list, this is where it hurts. The cheapest bottle of house wine was about £17.00 albeit, if you buy 2 glasses you get the rest of the bottle for nothing. I would say you would pay about £4.00 in a supermarket for it. I ordered a starter of ribs at £5.00+ very average, not worth the money however the seafood pasta was good, Breakfast was freshly cooked and was good, although seemed to be a lot of staff wondering about without any guidence. I think the final thing that made me right this was at check out. I had to pay £2.00 for the use of my credit card. Now I know £2.00 is not much however, with a hotel group the size of the MacDonald Group I object to that, you would expect that from a corner shop, not from a major hotel group. So fickle as it might be I would not use that hotel again for reason of food and drink price and credit card charge.
surprise, surprised!

My wife and i stayed for 1 night in late september for a surprise birthday party. We were pleasantly surprised at the complex and its surroundings. We stayed in the Jambles Cottages(think that's the name) overlooking the pub and steakhouse. The room was large and bright, clean and tidy. The meals were very good, but the beer quite expensive at over £3 a pint. We found the facilities extremely good and the staff very helpful, all in all our short stay was very relaxed and a party we'll always remember. Thanks to the Last drop village, we would reccomend it and we will definetely return in the new year for another weekend break
Great Spa, Tired Rooms
from heieup
I stayed for a long weekend at the Last Drop Village in Oct 06. On the positive side, the leisure facilities are excellent. Pool great and the gym fantastic. The 'Thermal Suite' was also by far and away the best I have ever used in a hotel. The inside and outside jaccuzi is fab with a great view over the hills whilst lounging in the hot water. Also the range of 2 steam rooms, 2 saunas and a laconicum is superb. Pool is open to under 16s but as is usual in all hotels, the saunas etc are not (safety reasons), the only difference here is that the jaccuzi is also out of bounds for uner 16s as it is part of the thermal suite. The staff were always very helpful and polite and the evening meal is very good. Quality of food and service excellent on Saturday night and good enough on the friday (though why there should be such a difference between friday and sat I have no idea) On the down side, our room was tired and tatty and not what I would expect for the £170 per night (D B&B for 2) the bed was extremely comfortable but, there were marks and scrapes on the wallpaper, a hole in the chair, very poor TV reception, and every item in the bathroom that was suppose to be white was a different shade of faded off white. It also wasn't as clean as it should have been with missing and mouldy grout in many places in the bathroom. To put it into perspective the quality of decor was not as good as that of the Holiday inn express I stayed in 2 weeks previous at £68 a night B&B and so certainly wasn't worth £170 a night in my opinion (even with the cost of an evening meal taken out.) Also I ahve stayed in better quality Hiltons at £120 for 2 nights D B&B for 2 which have been significantly better decorated and better state of repair for the rooms. The only other area of real disapointment was the service at breakfast. The food was good and the range of choice great. But the service terrible. Noone came to take our order for coffee or tea for 15 mins after arriving, when she did she simply mumbled "tea or coffee" at me not even managing a basic level of courtesy. When it finally arrived my coffee was cold, I had no cups and had to ask for these speparately, then no milk which I eventually borrowed from a neighbouring table as the staff then disappear. Also no offer of toast which I later found she should have offered. Very Very poor indeed. Something to be aware of is that the 'Last Drop Village' is not a village at all, it is a hotel complex so the 'Village pub' is just another hotel bar and as such has 4* hotel prices at £3 a pint. But when I went the staff were fine and the atmosphere quite cosy. Overall the stay was fine. I certainly wouldn't avoid it desparately and the food and leisure facilities are enough to swing it for me. But the rooms are a bit rubbish to say the least, if I had been paying full price myself I would probably not have been too happy (supermarket loyalty card deals are very good though !). It is an OK place to stay, ignore the rooms and its good.
Great place to stay

My husband & I stayed at the hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We were looking for something a little different, but wanted to luxury of having everything done for us at the same time. We booked a DBB break in an executive room for the night, which was great, but for the amount of time we actually spent in the room, I would book a standard room next time. Albeit they are smaller rooms, they were more kwerkier & formed part of the history of the hotel. After spending time walking round the shops (cafe, jewellers, bakery & loads more) we settled into the local pub. The only down side, they don't charge local pub prices! You didn't need to move as there was a Steakhouse right next to the pub. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant that night & breakfast in the same place the following morning. A little slow on getting seated, but at 9:30 on a Sunday morning, everyone else had the same idea to go for breakfast at that time!! This was an excellent hotel, there was even a wedding reception being held there too. Would recommend this place to everyone.
Superb Spa and Gym for a hotel

Not a cheap place to stay but worth it. Rooms nice and modern, no Air Con though. Superb leisure facilities, though most not available for under 16's. Nice place to spend a relaxing weekend.
last resort!!!!!!

I had booked a 1 night birthday break in the bridal suite, which I was assured was the best room at the hotel. I had viewed the bridal suite on-line via the hotel virtual tour, and the room we got was certainly not the room on the virtual tour site. It has been a very nice suite,(maybe 15years ago), it was dated, tatty and some of the furniture was threadbare and stained. I would have been even more disappointed if I'd been a bride! the entrance to the suite was filthy dirty and was in desperate need of an update and a coat of paint. The cost of drinks...(and we are certainly not skinflints and are used to paying a little extra in hotels) ...was a rip off at the village pub and that also needed a good clean, the glass topped tables were filthy, and it wasn't busy so the staff were more than capable of keeping the place clean. The restaurant was the saving grace, as the meal and service was excellent . We will certainly abstain from using Mcdonald hotels, and hotel websites need to be governed by trading standards!!!!
Could be so much better

I stayed for four nights having organised a visit to the area for a large group. Six couples had to wait over an hour and a half for their rooms. Staff sick. Food at Dinner and Breakfast excellent but service variable. Cost of drinks at bar and wine in restaurant exhorbitant. Beware ordering a daily paper, you will be charged 50 pence per day delivery in addition to the cost of the paper and you will not be told of this by rception until you get your bill!! Spoke to Duty Manager on two occasions. Sympathy expressed but nothing done.

Just returned from a 1 night stay at the last drop. I have stayed at several hotels in this group, which were satisfactory. I was quite dubious before travelling due to some of the reviews on this site, however despite this every aspect exceeded expectations. Location, Restaurant and Pool are highly recommended

The hotel itself is really nice, and located just outside Bolton. The rooms are really nice, and there is a health spa and swimming pool on site. We only stayed one night, with evening meal and breakfast all included in the price. We were disappointed to find that the... more
