Stayed in July in what can only be described as a dirty, shabby and poorly run Travelodge. Bathroom had obviously not been cleaned properly in weeks with urine around base of toilet, smeared mirrors, dusty shelving etc etc. Bedroom had cobwebs, stained pillows and matress.... more

Stayed here for 2 nights and could not fault it for the price. We got an offer for £19 per night. Parked in Kent Road car park (Q Park)which is 5 mins round the corner for £6.50 per night - there is a closer one Picadilly but it is £9.50 per night. Room was very warm... more

I stayed here in early January to take advantage of the Christmas sales! Lovely clean, very modern hotel with usual basic standard of Travelodge accommodation. Ideally situated in central York and handy for shopping, nightlife, museums etc. This hotel is conveniently... more

You couldn't get much more central than this. It's a very modern hotel right in the city centre. Usual Travelodge facilities, but the room was clean and tidy. Tea and coffee in room but not much in the way of toiletries. % channels on the TV plus pay-for-view movies. Right... more

A typical Travelodge - perfectly acceptable
I find some people's expectations of a basic hotel like a travelodge perplexing. These are basic hotels with minimal facilities and I would suggest people expecting otherwise don't stay here. York is one of those places where virtually every hotel has a minimum 2 night stay policy at the weekend. The travelodge would also seem to be one of these places as their website only lets you book a 2 night reservation at the weekend. Don't let that put you off. If you book a flexible rate you just tell reception when you check in that you... more
Avoid if you can
We arrived in York seeking accommodation for the night. When the Premier Travel Inn was booked out we kept driving and found the Travelodge. At 75 pounds without breakfast it was very expensive - especially for such a basic room. Also, we were told that if we parked in the NCP next door (which we had to because the better one was closed), we would have to go back when it reopens at 7.00am to purchase another Pay and Display sticker or we'd be clamped! No probems I thought, I'll ask for a wake up call - but no, Travelodge don't offer... more
Take Your Own Soap!
Affordable night in a good location. We paid £75 for a room and it was very basic!. No soap, not enough pillows - BASIC! Don't pay for breakfast as there is a pub next door with full english for £1.99. Parking was a nightmare! The NCP is very busy and costs £7.50 per night, not to mention the extra cost for the day. In all I spent £14 parking from 3pm to 10am the following day. City was nice and the location is great (but I think I'd try one of the other hotels if I was staying again!)
Good location, great price.
We caught the train from Edinburgh to York and walked to the hotel from the station. We got to the hotel at around 12 and our room was ready, so they let us check in early. The people at the reception were very friendly. The room was huge compared to other rooms we had stayed in during our trip, it still looked like the hotel was reasonably new. It had a nice big bathroom which had a shower in tub. We originally booked our room through the Travelodge website at the 55 pound rate because that was the cheapest available at the time,... more
Brilliant Bargain!
Paid £26 for a room here, must admit was a tad wary after reading some of the reviews here. Room was clean and tidy, bed good and quite comfy. Small amount of hardened chewing gum on bathroom floor, but looked ancient and irremovable and didn't really bother us at all. We asked for a room facing the river as suggested, lovely view! Was a very hot night so slept with windows open and geese didn't wake us up. Be warned, this hotel can get very warm, not unbareable, but definitely not comfortable. I had to pour water on my face to cool down.... more
very well situated.
We stayed in this York travelodge on 27th and 28th July 2006 with our grandchildren aged 12 and 10. We found it clean and very well situated for all the attractions--------we overlooked the Castle Museum. It was very, very hot in our room as York was in the eighties and as the window only opened a tiny way we asked for a fan which was readily given. Extra pillows were requested and readily given too. We would stay again as the hotel is more than suited to a short break. Breakfast at the adjoining Wetherspoons is good value too.
You get what you pay for
We stayed for one night at the Travelodge York Central, in July 2006. You definitely get what you pay for - room is basic but clean, similarly the bathroom was clean - but no toiletries supplied. We had a room overlooking the river which was quite pleasant, although the hotel is above a Wetherspoon pub, we didn't really notice the noise too much. This Wetherspoon is good for quick meals, you get 20% off as a Travelodge guest. The location of the Travelodge was fairly central - I would say about a a 5-10 mins walk to the main shopping and... more
You pays your money, you takes your choice!
Stayed here for a couple of nights in June and got the room for £26 per night. We had stayed last year in York at a large hotel in the centre which cost £89 per night and I can honestly say that there was little difference in the quality of the room. We asked for a room facing the river and it was a pleasent view and if you are a townie like me then it was quite nice to watch and hear the geese. The room itself is basic, but comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a hot powerful shower, lots of large towels if requested.<br... more
Worst hotel in 5 weeks
Out of 16 hotels we stayed at in our 5 weeks of holidays, this hotel took the prize for the worst. Chewing gum on the ceiling, stains on the sofa, not only were there no towels in the bathroom but one that was there folded up was dirty, bed was lower at the head. As the Travelodge offer no facilities in the room, such as a phone, if you have any problems you have to walk back down to reception. The staff at reception seemed offended that I should ask for towels, linen for the sofabed (I cringed at the thought of my daughter having to... more
Great price, but needs to get the basics right
Although (or rather because) it is one of the best places to visit in the UK, York is a very expensive place to stay, so finding a room in a chain hotel just within the ancient walls for £26 per room per night was a bargain (you'll probably need to book a long way in advance for weekends, but we booked just two-weeks advance for a mid-week break in May). Although not in the best area of York, the hotel has a good location 5 mins walk to the city centre, and close to the Castle Museum, Clifford's Tower, Jorvik and the excellent Merchant... more
