The Queen's hotel in York is situated...

The Queen's hotel in York is situated close to the city centre on the banks of the river Ouse.
The hotel claims to be within easy distance of the train station, so arriving by train we chose to walk into the less than clearly signed city centre.
Luckily enough it's fairly straight forward and we managed to reach the hotel within about an hour – and that included a lengthy stop for dinner and drinks.
The hotel is situated in a quiet off street with the main city centre being a short walk away. Arriving at the hotel the main entrance is actually found at the site of the hotel and not that obvious.
Immediately inside the door is a small set of steps, but wheelchair users have a self service wheelchair lift to accommodate the steps.
The reception looks grander on the hotel web site than in real life, but staff were friendly and willing to help. A small lift which is big enough to accommodate a wheelchair will take you to the level of your room – ours was level 2.
Entering the room I was wholly surprised by the standard the room was spacious, very clean, and the refreshment tray was more than adequate (unlike other hotels I have been in).
Meal times in the Queens are delicious, and simply couldn't be faulted. Breakfast is buffet style but dinner is table service (booking through super break the hotel only offered B,B,EM).
Obviously all drinks with meals have to be paid for separately, although a few people when we stayed didn't realise this and ordered drinks without knowing – it isn't made clear.
York itself is a wonderful city with plenty of historic value and while I am in a wheelchair – I can walk small distances, but anyone in a wheelchair permanently may find the cobbles a little hard to swallow.
The hotel has a nice little bar with views (and small balconies) looking over the river, it was nice and quiet at the time of our visit – and drink prices are reasonable.
So overall the hotel is spotlessly clean, the room was spacious and again very clean, and the food was delicious and hot!
Highly recommended.
