The Grange Hotel

For some reason when you book bed, breakfast and dinner in the Ivy Restaurant with this hotel they do not make sure that there is a table available for you in the restaurant. Why offer a package if you can't deliver? Why do they think you don't need a table when bookling DB&B? On my first night the Ivy Restaurant had a table available but on the second night there was not due to the fact the table was booked by someone else not even staying in the hotel. Pros: Breakfast was excellent. Polite and helpful staff. Cons: Bed bugs. Mattress was worn out, uncomfortable. Small bedrooms. Expensive with few amenities.

Unfortunately didn't stay here, but did have an absolutely excellent meal there last night. The dining room is fantastic having recently been refurbished to a top class standard. The staff were fantastic and the waiters/waitress were the best I've come across in a long time. The menu is second to none and they must have a fantastic chef as the food was FANTASTIC ! Next time we go to york we will probably stay here, as it isn't too far from the city walls, only a 5 minute walk

Upon arrival (on the coldest day of the year so far) we were met by a friendly receptionist, but it went downhill from there!The ambience was "chilled" further by a very brusque porter. However, we were delighted to see a roaring fire in the lounge and had coffee before we ventured out. The Room - small, and dominated by a huge kingsize bed. Well decorated if small room. The Servies was ok. Everning meal for 14 guest (my stag do sort of) Good if very expencive I would say if you don't mind the cost and would like a hotel withing walking distance of the minster (a lovley walk on a sunny everning) the grange would be ok

Have you ever stayed somewhere and had the feeling that some members of staff thought they were doing you a favour letting you be there. That is how we felt when we stayed here. We payed extra for a larger room and though it was nice it was not at all fantastic. Our tea tray had not been filled from the last visitor . We booked a 4 night stay Tuesday to Saturday for a short honeymoon break in August. We booked one of the two 4 poster rooms (room 20 on the second floor), unfortunately due to a plumbing fault we were given an executive room for the first night, but were compensated with a bottle of bubbly and the substitute room was excellent. Having tried several other hotels in York over the years, I was booked into this one by my client with an apology due to its location (about 15 minutes walk from the centre of town) I have to say this is easily the best hotel I've stayed in for a while. It is a small traditional, beautifully decorated hotel.
