Why???
Small cold room overlooking the busy main road and race course across the road. Noisy because one of the window catches on the double glazed window was missing! Staff in reception not very welcoming. Towels in the bathroom were damp and had not been changed from the previous occupant. On day one the swimming pool was out of order due to a water leak and on day 2 the water was too cold to consider using. Could however walk 300 yards to the Marriott to use their leisure centre. Newspapers are not complimentary as stated on... more
great if you are on a diet
Beware. This hotel is supposed to have garden style rooms. They are car park style rooms as they are literally on the car park. the room we stayed in had a shower you could not control - very hot to freezing cold. there is an extractor fan going constantly which is very noisy. Dont book and evening meal there - unless you are on a very strict diet - as the portions are so small and dont expect a hearty breakfast as you dont get one. overall - clean - but would not recommend anyone to stay there - ever
Pleasant hotel in a good location
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on the 28th Jan. The hotel was located opposite the race course (with a busy main road in between), and it took us about 15/20mins to walk into the outskirts of town. If you don't want to walk however, you can get the Number 4 bus straight into town centre for £1.50. We stayed in room number 17, which was located on the front of the hotel, over looking the road and race course. The road is busy, however that didn't bother us in the slightest. The room had two twins zipped together to make a large... more
Lovely Hotel
This is a really lovely hotel, and far more convenient for the city centre than you might expect. We booked late to go to York for the weekend so couldn't get anywhere nearer the city centre, and we weren't very encouraged by a couple of bad reviews on trip-advisor. We needn't have worried- arriving late evening we hadn't booked anywhere to eat so we thought we'd risk the hotel food and it was superb! Lovely modern cuisine cooked beautifully and tasty home made deserts! The room was clean and the staff courteous and the breakfast lived up to... more
Love this hotel
I have stayed at this hotel before (august 2005). My boyfriend and i love it, it is ideal for the races and has lovely views of the course. We always stay in the garden rooms as we have always find them clean, tidy and welcoming and you dont get the road noise. used the pool for the first time on this visit and found it very clean. Always find the staff friendly and helful. Breakfast just a perfect size not too much. Restaurant is very good would def recommend. We tried to book a room for May ( for the... more
Terrible Memories
Spent one night at this hotel. What a mistake. Booked the Queen Suite we thought this might be a treat due to it being our Silver Wedding Annerversary. Dull, lifeless rooms, need more than a little TLC. Stains on carpets and throwover on bed. Towels and bathrobes were from years gone by it seems, and did not smell very nice either. Lighting in the room totally not adequate. Two bulbs out of three (spotlights) over the bathroom area not working. And two out of three (spotlights)over the bed area not working, so not very good when trying to... more
Spoilt by the smoky room!
We booked the family room which turned out to be right in the attic. Access to the room was with a very narrow staircase. The room was actually two bedrooms one with a double and one with 2 singles. The rooms being in the roof had sloping ceilings. Access to the shower was very cramped because of the roof. The worst thing was for a family room was the strong smell of smoke which really spoilt the stay. We actually came home a day early! The water pressure in the bathroom was poor and world frequently go between scolding hot and freezing... more
lovely
Lovely little hotel. Stayed with husband for a treat and it was really lovely. Had the Queen Suite, four-poster, nice big bath..but bath is in room up a couple of steps, has a curtain..but some people might not like idea of it where it is. We paid £127.00 for a night in afore mentioned room, bathrobes, fresh flowers, minature brandy each in room and breakfast in bed and also includes 3 course meal....I don't think thats half bad for a quick night away! And thats for 2 not each! Only downside is..hotel is on main... more
Lovely York Hotel
My and my boyfriend stayed in the Queen Suite and and it was very nice. The room was very clean and tidy and even though we were only there for 2 nights our room was tided during our stay. Or coffee cups were cleaned, bins emptied, bed made and fresh towels and more toilet roll was left. Our fresh flowers were even changed! The indoor pool was nice and clean and the bar and lounge areas were very nicely decorated. The only thing I would complain about is the size of the English breakfast I got in the morning. It was very small. More... more
