Heworth Court Hotel

This small, family run hotel was excellent. Very friendly service, absolutely immaculate room. Lots a free parking. When we arrived, we checked in and were given a quick tour of the hotel (bar, dining room etc) and we were shown to our room. First impressions....marvellous. Spotlessley clean. Paid £218 for 2 nights in a 'Superior room'. We thought we were going to stay in the Hotel but we were put in the annexe that is next door but one. When you pay this much for 2 nights you at least think that breakfast would be served in the same building! Downstairs room where we stayed was ok but the dividing wall between the adjacent room was very thin, you could here everything and I mean everything! They even had a sign in the toilet to tell you to turn the fan off as it would disturb the people in the next room. Save your money and try... more

My husband and I stayed here after seeing it advertised on teletext. We stayed in an annex room out of the back of the hotel, walking across a courtyard to get to the door. Our bedroom window looked out onto a car park. Our room was very cramped, woodchip wallpaper if I remember, TV hung on the wall, horrid bedcover, really bouncy bed, the shower cubicle was mouldy, leaked and smelt, the towels were thin, and the extractor hardly worked, filling the room up with steam which added to the general damp feeling of the room. My husband and i have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Heworth Court Hotel. After reading some of the reviews on here we decided to check it out for ourselves as this was recommended to us. We arrived to a warm reception where we were given a tour of the hotel, the receptionist then showed us to our room which was very clean and of good size, with a television and tea/coffee facilities. We were in the annexe, and I would have preferred the main hotel, as it was a pain to go outside to main hotel for breakfast. Shower and toilet tiny with basin in bedroom only, does not real allow for privacy if needed. However, room very nice, staff very good, and evening meal in restaurant excellent. 10 minute walk to York, and easy shuttle bus. Would recommend but ask for main hotel and proper bathroom. Would not have wanted to pay full rate for this room, but as stayed 2 nights got good deal.

Parking excellent, location excellent, breakfast very good, staff pleasant. Bar expensive £6.60 for pint of lager and a glass of wine!!!!! Room was very small and very hot (although weather was very hot) but no offer of a fan to cool down with (luckily we took our own otherwise room would have been unbearable), Room was also at the back next to the kitchen extractor fan which seemed to be turned on before 7am and kept on till 2300 which was very noisy especially as we had to have the windows open because of the heat. My husband and I stayed here Tuesday/Wednesday 4/5 July 2006 and definitely won't be going back and putting any more money into this family-run hotel - it's a total rip-off at £92 per night. We requested a non-smoking room and were advised that the Georgian Annex (two doors down from the hotel) was totally non-smoking and therefore would be suitable. Stayed for 3 nights on a special Lamplight dinner break. Food was the best I have ever had in any hotel and Whisky bar was different. Staff excellent. Bedroom very comfortable and clean, good en-suite. Short 12 minute walk from York Minster with a park and ride service passing right by the hotel, handy for bringing back all that shopping! Hope to return again in 2006! Thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay.

Booked the Hotel after seeing an advert on Sky. When I rang the price on Sky had gone. I was then told I'd get a upgraded room for £50 pppn. We arrived to find a very adverage room with (a)no shower, (b)unable to open any windows, (c) the heating and a humidfyer on full blast, (c) the 24 hr news channel was CNN! Come on people we are in England. The staff were very good and the breakfast of a good quality.
