We've just spent yet another pleasant stay at the Black Bull. The staff as always were pleasant, friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much bother even though they were under extreme pressure from working long shifts to cover absences. Room was clean and has all you need... more

Stayed at the Black Bull for 6 nights over the Christmas period 21st - 27th Dec 2007. Checking in was swift and easy. Our room was spacious clean and tidy, with everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. Staff were very friendly and although a very busy festive period... more

Just returned from a two night break, you get what you pay for. Having paid £119for two rooms for two nights including complimentary breakfast for a party of three, I feel was excellent value. Staff attentive and respectful, check-in went without a hitch. We ate in the... more

Stayed at the Black Bull for 2 nights, Friday and a Saturday. Hotel fine, rooms clean and tidy, food in hotel bar very good. But breakfast time was a nightmare, you have to ask for everything, any bread for toast, any milk, any hot water, any cups, tea bags etc. The staff... more

Oct 2005, Not Specified

The room itself is good - clean, and the bed is comfortable. However, the 'hotel' is a building at the back of a pub, and the 'hotel check in' is the pub bar. It isn’t very pleasant to enter a smoky, rather down-market, bar with all your bags, and stand around waiting... more

highly overpriced
we stayed here on a recommendation. initially the room looked clean which it was apart fromt he carpets which looked grubby. the wallpaper was really old fashioned and outdated. bedding was spotless and ironed. same for the towels. the bathroom with a shower was basic and i found the cubicle very cramped. it put out a decent spray and was hot. our room had a double and single bed. room had tea making facilities however for £70 for the night i would have liked non uht milk to be provided - maybe a tad fussy but its the little things that make the difference........ we were unable to park on the premisis but the road outside is pretty safe and quiet. breakfast was in truth horrid. our friends joined us - it was served until 9.30am. i ordered poached eggs and toast. when it arrived the toast was unbuttered and the eggs plonked ontop. the 'toast' was basically uncooked - and the eggs had turned it into a soggy mess. the rest of the breakfast toast was the same. should be called 'toa' as it certainly wasnt toast. when we asked the waitress she said that you either got burnt toast or like it came cos the toaster was broken. not an excuse. but not her fault. she was as helpful as she was able to be under the circumstances. overall we were not happy about the price of the place and would expect the decor etc to be a hell of a lot better . we did learn that it is under new managment so maybe things will get better.
An English Inn at it's best
We found The Black Bull Inn in Escrick, a few miles from York, England an enviable stay. It is a traditional Inn with above average facilities but above all great food and a stunning atmosphere. We would highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking to stay in a confortable, traditional British Inn in a well presented English Village and within easy commuting distance of York.
