I can only mark this hotel down, as a 5 would like to go more as I am a regular user of the Holiday inn group including the Express. But on the occasion I used this hotel I was rather disappointed. Don’t get too concerned yet as in fact it wasn’t the hotel I was... more

Great Hotel as you would expect from the Marriott brand. Very large, comfy beds and ample meals. My room overlooked the racecourse so the view was great too.
The rooms have all been refurbished to a high standard. A bit far from the center of York, but there is a good bus service that stops right outside the hotel.

This hotel is situated approx 2 miles outside York on a main road and is tucked away behind a very large family pub and restaurant. Travel into York is easy, either by car or the park and ride which is not far away (approx half a mile). It is a small hotel with a... more

If you are visiting York with a family then this is the hotel for you. The location is superb, just 5 mins from the centre of the city in a beautiful location by the Clifton Park. You get all the basics you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, no frills and good... more

Good Hotel but a little out of the way...
My brother and I went with our families for two nights to York and chose to stay here. We were somewhat misled and told that it was within walking distance of the York City center. It is NOT within walking distance. It's in a more suburban area and the best way to get to the city center is using the public bus service (10-15 mins). Other than that we liked the place. The staff was cooperative and since we had two 18 month old children, they helped out with arranging for milk etc. The breakfast is ok. But mainly bread, cereal, etc. There is a nice restaurant cum bar on site which seems to do a lot of business and you dont have to go into town for dinner if you dont want to. When the taxi drove us to the hotel and we realized how far it was, we were really bummed and ask the taxi-driver to help us look for hotels in the center. But it was a busy holiday weekend and we could not find anything. But later on, we realized that with the bus service things were not too bad.
disabled facilities very good
We have just stayed at this hotel with a disabled gentleman and found the disabled facilities very good and the staff very helpful. We pointed out a couple of things which could improve things for us with quite severley disabled clients, which the staff took on board and they said that they are going to be changing the rooms soon and were glad of some input. It is a buffet breakfast and you can take a tray back to your rooms which we found very helpful. The disabled room has a double bed and the carers room connects with 2 single beds in it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a disability wanting to stay on the outskirts of York.
No complaints
Recently stayed here for 1 night. The hotel was very clean, comfortable and quiet and staff very pleasant. Continental breakfast included in price. Toby carvery next door - had a lovely meal there. Would recommend hotel to anyone. We stay in Holiday Inn Express hotels quite often and always find them good value for money.
Not the best
The Hotel is Ok, its easy to find and does what it says on the can. The hotel was let down by the cleanliness, on entering our room we were faced by an empty can of lager next to the bed, 2 empty toilet rolls on the toilet, a large toe nail on the floor next to the bed left from the previous occupier and a sickly smell of drains from the bathroom. Having stayed in the Clifton Holiday Inn Express we were somewhat surprised by the low standards of this hotel. The Breakfast consist of Toast and Jam as everything seemed to have gone by 09:00 and was not being replaced ie. yogurts etc. On the second day we had to que for a table so we gave up and went elsewhere for our breakfast. The Toby pub next door is good and feeds you on your first night in York. I would not stay here again in future if I return I will probably go for the Cliffton instead.
Decent place to stay; convenient location
We had a two night weekend break at the hotel. For anyone travelling by car it is easy to find being just off the ring-road. It is also about a mile from the Monks Cross Park and Ride into the city centre so it is equally good as a base for the city. The hotel is set well back from the road and did not seem to suffer from traffic noise. The rooms are "lodge" style - very similar to Premier Inn or Travelodge in facilities and size. The room and hotel in general appeared clean and well kept. There is an included breakfast - serve yourself continental type (cereals, fruit, breads, yogurt) - not exciting, but perfectly adequate. There's a Toby Carvery at the neighbouring pub that I can't comment on, having eaten elsewhere.
Great hotel, clean, friendly
My husband & I stayed 5 nights at Express Holiday Inn on Malton Road, York. We had a great stay. Complimentary breakfast was really lovely with nice choices, staff were excellent - hotel clean, room was lovely. The staff were so helpful with directions etc. The carvery next door is lovely too with great atmosphere and a great place to eat after a long day touring. The hotel is on the imediate outskirts of York, but we found it great to travel to all the surrounding areas. There is a Parknride just down the road and Monk Cross shopping is very close for those essentials or dining out
Hotel was fine – but don’t leave anything visible in the car
We stayed here for a night while moving house. The room was clean and comfortable. Our only problem was when the phone rang at 7:00 to tell us our car had been broken into that evening. Despite some more valuable things being carelessly left in there, they only took the bracket and power supply for our sat-nav. The police told us this is a common problem in York at the moment and gangs are stealing anything sa-nav related. I would still recommend this hotel, but given its exposed car park and easy getaway, I suggest you leave nothing of value visible in the car!
functional
Used this hotel for an overnight stay. Glad we didnt pay the 100 or more asked by other hotels. The Express served its function. The room was very clean if not compact. The hotel is near enough to drive into York in a few minutes (park on the castle hill car park). Breakfast was continental and adequate - as expected for the room price. Only complaints were that on a warm muggy night, the room was unbearably hot given that there is no air conditioning and that the seemingly endless banging of room and fire doors kept wakening us up. Couldnt have stayed there for more than a couple of nights
Clean and comfortable for family- bargain for York!
Family of 3, we stayed here the first week of November and had a very nice time. It's out of the way for sure, but very close to the Park-n-ride, which was ideal (who can afford to park near the city center?). The room was basic, but new and clean, bathroom was large with the toilet, shower, and sink separate -- great for a family. The room had a queen sized bed and a pull-out couch for the 10 year-old. The bar/pub was not pleasant because of the heavy smoke and obnoxious drunks; it definitely is a place for the locals to go and get plastered before they tumble into their cars and drive to who-knows-where. Not a great scene, but luckily the pub is in a separate building so it only affected us when we tried to eat there (which only happened once during a three-day stay). Overall, it seemed to be a great value for the money.
