Great Hotel as you would expect from the Marriott brand. Very large, comfy beds and ample meals. My room overlooked the racecourse so the view was great too.
The rooms have all been refurbished to a high standard. A bit far from the center of York, but there is a good bus service that stops right outside the hotel.

This hotel is situated approx 2 miles outside York on a main road and is tucked away behind a very large family pub and restaurant. Travel into York is easy, either by car or the park and ride which is not far away (approx half a mile).
It is a small hotel with a breakfast room which couples as a lounge. Although there is no bar the hotel do offer wine and beer from the reception which is payable directly to the reception staff on duty.
The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable but we found that the standard of cleanliness in the bathroom was not as high as we would have expected from this hotel group. The breakfast was continental but there was plenty of it. There was no restaurant or facility for eating in the hotel itself, but the restaurant next door served up a very tasty carvery at a reasonable price.
There was also a very nice bar in the restaurant. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly and helped make our stay enjoyable. The hotel is ideally situated for travel into York and Whitby is only an hour away by car. Nearby is a very large retail park and in York itself you are spoilt for choice of restaurants and bars, not to mention shops.
Overall, we had a very nice three night stay at this hotel and would definitely visit again.

If you are visiting York with a family then this is the hotel for you. The location is superb, just 5 mins from the centre of the city in a beautiful location by the Clifton Park. You get all the basics you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, no frills and good service.
Right nextdoor is a Toby pub/restaurant with a great outdoor area. Although close to a main road the location is quiet and safe.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

I can only mark this hotel down, as a 5 would like to go more as I am a regular user of the Holiday inn group including the Express.
But on the occasion I used this hotel I was rather disappointed. Don’t get too concerned yet as in fact it wasn’t the hotel I was disappointed with but the adjoining diner the Toby Grill. As the hotel doesn’t offer a dinner facility they rely on the pub/grill next door. I was a little late on finishing work so by the time I checked in bathed and stuff, I was more than ready to eat and a carvery just what I desired.
But no too busy and no more reservations accepted. As the hotel is a way out of York this meant just one thing taxi into and out of town. The dinners finished too early for a facility that a hotel is reliant on.
But other than this if I was honest the hotel was ok warm comfortable and clean, bathroom large enough and clean enough no complaints there. Nice to have the buffet breakfast in the morning always a casual and light way to start the day without the normal table service I like the buffet style the express does offer.
So all in all yes stay here and enjoy but please be aware the Toby is a popular place to dine or at least it was on this one night, so please go and get fed earlier rather than later to avoid any disappointment.
