Dec 2007, Mr G Mitchell

Stayed here for just the one night basically invited to a wedding reception and didn’t fancy arranging transport so I took the easy option and stayed over. This I do not regret, I booked in advance so had a reasonable price for room only. The room itself was nice and... more

Very clean and comfortable hotel with extremely friendly staff. Our room was a little on the small side but we can't have any complaints about the quality of decoration or how clean the actual room was. Breakfast was the usual self service type of thing, filling but not... more

Comfortable but very small rooms
This hotel is out of the way but in pleasant surroundings. The room was tiny and felt more like a single than a double. Well furnished and equipped but felt cramped. Bar was expensive and lacked atmosphere.Did not eat there but menu looked expensive. Very long queue for check out, only one person on desk. Prefer the Holiday Inn Express further along the road.(Larger rooms and breakfast included)
Pretty good with a couple of hicups
Business standard hotel on outskirts of Bristol. Close to M5, M4 & M32 motorways. Also, about a mile to Parkway railway station. Taxi or bus to the city centre, some 3/4 miles away. Attractive gardens with several fishing ponds & a lake. Nice for a stroll. Reception staff friendly & efficient. We were given a standard room, recently refurbished. All the usual facilities, very clean, & a good ac system, welcome on an exceptionally hot day. Only gripe here is that the soundproofing does not seem to be that great. Could hear conversations from corridor, & next room. Beds very comfortable. The lift up to the second floor was out of action for the time we were there. ( 1 night) Breakfast, was very busy when we came down at 0845 ( Saturday ), & can only describe it as chaotic. Long queues for the hot plate, & the cold buffet area was untidy & messy, & lacking choice. Maybe it was just one of those days. The staff were again very friendly, with one very grumpy exception. The lounge area is spacious & good for those infomal business meetings over a coffee or two. Overall, a pleasant stay, other than the breakfast experience.
A very friendly hotel
Stayed here for three nights rather than staying at the Holiday Inn Express just down the road. This is a very good hotel, very professional, but friendly hotel that welcomes from the start through to leaving. I had an executive room which are set in a wing at back of the and are quite good rooms. No problem with the room it was clean and well maintained. Had evening meal in the hotel two of the nights I was there, once at the Asian resturant which was good if expensive and secondly from the bar menu which was much better value for money. Would recommend staying here, it is worth noting that it is some way out of Bristol city center, but pre book your taxi and it is fine, especially as it is a fixed rate into the city from the hotel so you are not over charged if you are caught in traffic.
Acceptable But Costly Spot
The hotel is not very convenient unless you are arriving by motorway. We had a conference there and it proved out of the way for thos who did not drive. If they call a taxi for you be prepared to wait a minimum of 20 minutes. The hotel itself was satisfactory although rooms were spartan and a bit on the tight side as you could not back up the chair at the desk without hitting the bed. As with many UK hotels they charge way too much for Internet service at 15 pounds per day and even charge for 800 calls. The conference facility and health club were very nice and they have a choice of restaurants at the hotel.
One Step Up From Being Homeless!
I stayed here on business and for a conference. If it had been for any other purpose, I would have turned around and walked out. This has to be the most disgusting, worn out Holiday Inn on the planet. The interior was shabby, the carpet around the bed was bare, exposing the underlay and the food was hideous. If you are thinking of staying here I suggest picking up a cardboard box from the back of Sainsburys and sleeping in a dark alley. It will be a much more enjoyable stay.
Management response from HotelAdmin_10 20 Apr 2010

I was most disappointed to learn of the problems you encountered in the Hotel during your stay. Please accept my sincere apologies for any discomfort this may have caused. Our hotel has been fully refurbished since your stay with us and I do hope you will allow us the opportunity to be of service to you again on some future occasion.

Fantastic hotel!
Myself and partner stayed here for one night on 10th June 2006 in a double non-smoking room. The reception was imaculately clean and the guy on the reception desk was more than helpful and helped us with directions to the local supermarket. Our room must have just been refurbished as it was so clean and fresh! Lovely comfy bed and amazing power shower in the bathroom. Our room (room 132) overlooked the duck pond, which is just beautiful and we even had half a dozen wild rabbits grazing outside our window!! The hotel is very deceptive - you wouldnt think, from the outside, that this hotel is as great as it really is. Would definitely recommend and will be staying there again soon.
Dont judge a book by its' cover
I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in February. Although it was a work-related stay, this is a great hotel for leisure too, if you want to stay just outside the city centre with its confusing one-way system, and have a car. Parking spaces at the hotel are plentiful and as far as I am aware, there is no charge. The staff at this hotel must be the nicest, politest most curteous staff I have ever come across. Nothing is too much trouble. I had to change rooms on arrival as I had mistakenly been allocated a twin room but a double room was allocated straight away. The rooms are rather compact but functional and spotless. If you are staying on the ground floor, the windows of your room will only open a fraction (for security reasons apparently) but all the rooms have air conditioning which I am sure would be very welcome in the summer. The main restaurant had a good 3 course set meal each night for 20 pounds but otherwise, I found the food a bit pricey and tended to have a bar meal most nights. There is a great variety of food on offer at breakfast time, the buffet was excellent. But be careful with the mini bar! Each item is on a sensor and the slightest movement will ensure the item is charged to your room. So unless you really really want that gin, stay away from it. From the outside, the hotel looks very shabby and a bit dated but dont let this put you off, it is a great place with good facilities on site as well as a local retail park (Sainsburys, McDonalds, Next etc) about 20 mins walk away. I would definitely stay here again.
Lovely Stay...would reccommend!
Just returned from an overnight stay on a Saturday night in an Executive Room. Setting - It is about 10 minutes from Bristol Town Centre and half an hour from Bath. You definatly do need a car to be honest as it is not within an easy distance to the centre and their are no shops around. A cab ride to Bristol centre is between £12-£15 pounds and you need to get on a dual carriageway. I would not reccommeded it to those who want a weeks stay somewhere - it is a travel lodge and for those who want an overnight stay somewhere or a weekend break. We drove up and went to Bath - we stayed the day there, had breakfast and lunch, did some shopping and watched a Rugby game and got to teh hotel room about 5pm and then had a swim and went for a meal in Bristol. We stayed overnight and then went shhopping in Bristol and travelled home again. The place itself is very nice and above all very clean. Our room was lovely - not massive but not small at all - it was perfect for us. It had a double bed wuth a sofa in the corner, a tv with sky and a fresh clean power shower with complimentary little shampoos etc. It has a swimming pool which isnt enormous however does the job and a small gym and sauna. A lovely touch. They give you towels also so you dont need your own - and its free to those who stay there. The breakfast is good - you can have as much as you want - fried breakfast with lots of choice, cereals, yougerts, different breads etc, juices, tea, coffee etc. The reception is very good always pleased to help you as is all the staff - I dont understand the negative reviews - the staff were very helpful on all our questions that we asked and all were fine! A bonus to my boyfriend was that Wasps Rugby team were staying the night that we were there so he loved seeing them about the place! An enjoyable stay especially with the added bonus of a pool/sauna/spa!
Christmas at Holiday Inn
I love this hotel. Having stayed there twice before with my son, we decided to spend Christmas there this year (2005). I e-mailed them twice in October to enquire about arrangements for Christmas lunch but never received a reply. My fault, but when I telephoned later there were no places left, which in fact didn't bother us too much. Restaurant otherwise closed lunchtime AND evenings until New Year, although the menu was still OK, ordered via the bar (the barman I quizzed on Christmas Eve wasn't even aware that the restaurant was closed during this period!). Serious staffing problems - often no one in the bar, and even when you got hold of someone there appeared to be a sense of confusion about what was or was not available. I would remind them that "Holiday Inn" contains the word 'Holiday', which suggests that people also go there for fun rather than business. Never mind, rooms immaculate as always with superb facilities. I still love the place and hope to go back again in a few months' time!
