Beware of noise
Be aware it is impossible to sleep until 1:00 or 2:00am on the weekend because of the disco music being played at 120 decibels in the nightclub. Also, it is the hangout for the local young people and the noise level of their conversations (shouting) is astounding. Repeated calls to the desk requesting the DJ lower the volume were ignored. There are no lifts, only steep stairs to the second floor. No help is available with luggage. Altogether, an unsatisfactory experience. JP Dallas, TX
Worst Christmas Break Ever.
I arrived Christmas Eve to the Redwood for a 3 night Xmas break with my mother and the brochure was completely misleading. Turns out the pictures are completely generic that they use in their brochures are not a representation of that hotel at all. It was clearly a business hotel putting a package together for a leisure break and at £300 per person it was a complete joke. The hotel lounge was in fact the foyer with some conference chairs to sit on and the food was disgraceful. Being Christmas Eve we left straight away to drive home and... more
Never again!
We stayed at this hotel overnight between flights. The room itself was a reasonable standard but the public areas were grim. We ate in the restaurant which has an odd policy of a fixed price for 2 or 3 courses, being quite late we only wanted one course but we ended up paying more for one course than if we'd had 2 courses - and then they cahrged for surcharges off the standard menu?!! We asked reception to book a taxi to the airport for 6am. The taxi never came and we were told it was stuck in traffic, at 6am.... I don't think so, would have... more
A big disappointment
We booked this hotel because it looked really fabulous on their website, set in acres of lovely countryside. It also had an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as a leisure club. We wanted somewhere special for our 17th Wedding Anniversary. We arrived on the Friday afternoon, and were checked in within about 2 minutes; the receptionist never offered to tell us where the leisure facilities were, where we went for meals, etc. We were pointed in the direction of the bedrooms and left to get on with it. The rooms were fairly well equipped but very... more
Frequent guest
We live in London. This is the 4th time we've come here, in the last 18 months. And we've been to Bristol about 10 times over the years. Bristol is a good base for touring around - there's so much to do. We're glad we found this Corus hotel. There isn't a problem with parking, and the hotel is set in lovely grounds away from the hustle & bustle of the city, and yet not too far to drive into. We have two children, and the free use of the hotel's extensive leisure facilities is fantastic. In the summer we can play tennis outdoors as... more
lovely basic hotel, good for families
We stayed for a weekend, as we had wedding to attend to, in Bristol Harbour. Journey into Bristol is 15 mins drive, from hotel (or £12 by cab, one way) Be warned, parking in Bristol is expensive, some meters expect payment up until midnight, so avoid driving there. Hotel is set in lovely forest area, we booked here, as alot of the other Bristol hotels did not have family rooms (our 2 children with us). But if you can afford it, the Bristol Royal Marriot, is a more central hotel. Rooms were nice, clean & well equipped, with a... more
Nice setting, good breakfast but decoration only okay
Fair sized rooms, generally comfortable and good english breakfast. Indoor pool not large, but lovely outdoor pool (when its warm). Decor and grounds could do with a little bit of attention. We arrived on Sunday on a bank holiday and they were obviously suffering from a large number of departing guests - check in was stated as 2pm but the room was not ready till almost 3pm. If booking at weekends check for any special deals - we got a price almost £20 lower than initially quoted. Bristol is lovely- so much to see and... more
Rather Disappointing
We drove up to the hotel expecting something special from the look and size of hotel, it stands in a lovely part of the country very close to the Clifton Bridge. I thought the pool needed a good bit of work doing to it, I did not use the gym, but it looked good. The food in the restaurant seemed to get worse each meal-time. Do not eat from the carvery is all I can say! Breakfast was not much better than the evening meal. It has put me off Corus Hotels and I regret not paying more to stay in the city as it was a trek into town if you... more
Great leisure facilities, average hotel
Rooms well furnished, standard and choice of food for dinner very dissappointing, but breakfast very good, leisure facilities excellent.
Excellent sports centre attached to hotel
Would use again, service good, food and rooms average. Sports facilities exceptional, but indoor pool a little on small side for size of centre. We stayed during summer very good grounds and outdoor activities or do nothing but sit beside the pool. Located outside Bristol, but within easy reach with transport. A good central location in England, close to motorway for access and touring.
