Nice hotel, but could do better
Have to say I am a fan of marriotts generaly, you know what you are going to get and the service is usualy good. Have just returned from a 2 night stay here and though it was ok, it was let down in a couple of areas. The hotel is central and of a good quality The resturant is ok , was only half full, a bit lacking in athmosphire l and not cheap, but has a good english menu. Our meal the first night was very nice and very well served, the second night my partners meal was served, and fine my suit pudding could have served as a puk... more
Most comfortable bed ever
Stayed here for one night for business in July. Beautiful room, with lots of lovely little touches like free water and cake (as well as tea and coffee). Beautiful large, clean bathroom. The bed was the most comfortable, luxurious bed I think I've ever slept in. It was really comfortable, with lovely soft duvet and pillows. It's not cheap although the rate I got (£120) was about £30 more than I've paid elsewhere in Bristol for somewhere pretty tatty and uncomfortable. The hotel is in a wonderful location for Bristol - the hotel... more
Comfortable, professional, smart
Stayed here for a night as was taking part in a conference at the hotel. All staff were professional and polite, including reception, spa, restaurant and chamber maids. Evening meal was delicious and reasonably priced, served in a glorious grand room. Breakfast was impressive too - so much choice! My room was good, very comfy bed, nice bathroom, but no view (can't have everything I guess). The swimming pool and jaccuzi were great, nice and warm, clean and relaxing. Nice to be able to relax on the loungers and read the... more
Really great hotel!
Stayed in the Marriott Royal for our daughter's "Hen Day", as we had deceided to have a grand "Afternoon Tea" to mark the start of the celebrations. Hotel easy to find with plenty of underground parking (£7.50 per day!) Requested early check in and got it! A really great large room with 2 double beds for us and loads of little extras (toiletries were nice, flannels would have also been nice, but we had our own), we were put on the Superior 3rd floor and it was much appreciated. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Afternoon... more
Pricy but okay
I stayed at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of june 06 during a work visit at the University of Bristol. On the plus side: The hotel is very well located in downtown Bristol with many good restaurants to eat; the room was clean and okay in terms of spacing (by north american standards); the staff memebers were professional and very helpful. On the minus side: communications (internet and telephone) were very expensive, this can be annoying as they didn't seem to be alot of public phones in the city. Overall,... more
Beautiful Hotel in Need of More Trained Staff
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from 21-24 May for business. - I will go over the good things first. The hotel had beautiful decoration and architecture both outside and inside. The room was plush and clean with plenty of room to move around (I was on the top floor). The bathroom was very luxurious with a nice big tub. The breakfast was wonderful with a wide selection to choose from and attentive waiters. I could have eggs made to order any way I wanted. The location seemed good too with a train station nearby and a... more
Beautiful Bristol Marriott Hotel
Spent 5 nights at Bristol Marriott Royal, May 16 thru 21, 2006. Hotel is in an historic building next to the stunning Bristol Cathedral. A lovely location, conveniently located. The Temple Meads train station about 2mile walk. We checked in early in the morning as we had arrived on an overnight flight from New York. Had asked for an early check-in, but the upgraded room we were going to have was not ready early as the hotel had been fully booked the previous night. They offered us another similar room, but we chose to wait for the... more
Character and elegance
Character and elegance After reading some of the previous reviews I had a few concerns about what this hotel would be like. The staff were all helpful, friendly and smiling. The breakfast had everything you could ever want. The public areas of the hotel had such character. One review mentioned dropping cases off - surely not a problem a secure underground car park or stop right infront of the hotel - there is a doorman or porter. Our table at dinner overlooked the cathedral. Nice spacious bedrooms. We went with a... more
needs attention to detail
I stayed at this hotel for a convention and found the room very pleasant - large, clean, and well-appointed, as was the bathroom. The public rooms were also quite attractive, with lit fireplaces, comfortable seating, and no smoking. But the management ought to pay more attention to details of service and operation. A number of us received unwanted wake-up calls (at 5 AM) several nights running. When I asked how to prevent them, I was advised to unplug my phones. There were two fire alarms in one day: one at four in the morning. No fire... more
Should have read the reviews...
Stayed with wife at the Marriott following day on business in Bristol. Asked for a nice room at check in- given double - not king size despite booking preference as Marriott reward card holder. Had a view towards the cathedral (actually the roof of the office next door). The room was okay and the bed was small. Also had a freezing draft /noise as well - we discovered the window was broken and had not been repaired. I had to stuff the gap with our coats to keep the cold out. This is very poor for a hotel that parades quality... more
