Won't stay here again
This is the second time we've stayed here because of its close proximity to Bristol Airport, and hopefully it will be the last. The rooms and hallways are horribly stuffy - the only ventilation is recirculated air, and the windows don't open. Our mattress had sunk in the middle and on top of that we were gasping for air. Quite frightening, really, and should be illegal. The price of the room, booked through the website, was 109 pounds (not including breakfast) whereas a sign out front advertised a daily rateof 79 pounds. Definitely not worth the money. Next time we'll try the Premier Travel Inn down the road.
smoking room
I wasn't going to review this hotel, because a holiday inn is a holiday inn all over the world.... good sized room, nice bathroom, etc... but I travelled with a smoker and decided to be kind to her and book us a smoking room.... it smelled absolutely foul - totally reeked of nicotine, even in the bathroom.. ok, that was my fault for booking a smoking room -- but that was the first hotel of our 8 day road trip - all rooms after that allowed smoking, but in no other room was it at all evident. If other rooms can get rid of the awful stench, why can't the holiday inn?
One night
I spent one night at this hotel (11th June 2006) before an early morning flight from Bristol airport the followig morning. This hotel is located some three miles from the airport but is the only choice for guests wishing to stay at the airport. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus to the airport on demand. There was some confusion over my room type at checkin meaning I had to to request a room change twice before I finally got a no smoking room with a double bed. This was irritating but eventually resolved by the staff who were very effficient. The hotel and all rooms that I saw were modern and very clean with fairly basic but adequate facilities for a one night stay and I would recommend. My only critcism is that the hotel is used by aircrew and throughout my stay there were cmings and going all night and the room sound proofing could have been improved.
Very nice hotel
My girlfriend and I stayed here before flying from Bristol airport. I have to say I was really impressed with this hotel. I was not expecting too much, as after all its just an airport hotel, but it was excellent. The room we had was lovely and absolutley spottless, I really liked the bed linen which was more akin to that of a 4 or 5 star hotel. The bathroom was modern, light and immaculate. The breakfast in the hotel was great, loads of choice. If you wish you can be healthy like my girlfriend was and have yogurt cerial etc or you can be unhealthy like me and pig out on a full english! One tip for anyone staying here... if like me you don't like cold faceless hotel bars and restaurants you can drive down the road for about 10 minutes to the lovely old village of axbridge where you will find 2 or 3 pubs around a small medieval square all offering decent pub grub. We went to the Lamb Inn and received a warm welcome and good food and a few pints of Guiness! I will definatley use this hotel again, it may be a little more expensive than the local guest houses but there is no comparison, this Holiday Inn is quality.
Above average airport hotel
There's nothing negative to say about this hotel. New, fresh, clean with well-appointed rooms and OK food, close to the airport with fabulously helpful staff. Nothing more you could wish for if you are looking for an overnight stay before or after a flight.
helpful staff
When airline reservations out of London were unavailable on the dates we wanted we elected to fly out of Bristol. We drove from London spent the night and flew out the next morning. This new hotel in the middle of the country was clean, comfortable and convenient. The staff was especially pleasant and helpful, even to recommending a nearby country pub where we enjoyed a pint and a wonderful meal. We plan to stay here again when we fly into England in the future.
Very nice
For an airport hotel (7 minutes), it's very nice. The staff was very friendly and if a van was not available to pick you up at the airport, they paid for the cab. Hotel is very new and it's been well maintained. High speed internet access in the room (not wireless) worked very well. Did not eat there so no idea about the food quality. It's a 20 minute drive to the city and the airport (and therefore the hotel) are in the middle of nowhere. The bus departs pretty frequently to downtown Bristol.
When is a confirmed booking not a booking?
My husband and myself confirmed our booking at the Bristol Airport Holiday Inn for the night of 3rd April on three occasions, informing them that we might be late arriving. Each time we were told that as they had Reception staff on all night a late arrival would present no problem. When we arrived at 1.30 a.m., the Receptionist told us that the hotel was overbooked and they had no room for us. In a temperature of -3oC, we were forced to drive back overnight to West Wales arriving home at about 5.00 a.m. - the very eventuality that we had tried to prevent. I have written to the Manager to ask what further precautions we could have taken to guarantee that the room for which we had received a booking number, and for which the hotel held our credit card number would be available when we arrived at the hotel. So far I have received no reply. I would like to alert other elderly travellers that they should not rely on "confirmed" reservations as the hotel seems to feel compunction about dishonouring a booking in the most callous manner.
Great stay
I really enjoyed my stay! My family and I were unable to fly out flight from Bristol due to a delayed flight, But Holiday Inn Bristol Airport saved me. My tired and frustrated family were transported complimentry and hassle-free, from the airport to the hotel, then a warm, clean and wonderful room was ready, with bookings for food pre-arranged by hotel staff, then a beautiful meal was served! Remarkable customer service!! Congratulations to a great team, and a fantastic new hotel! HOLIDAY INN AT ITS BEST (from Mrs I Macdonald)
An airport hotel
Another airport hotel. (Well, three miles away) Can't say anything bad about the place. Brand new, modern and comfy. Typical Holiday Inn. It would not inspire me to write poetry or shout from the roof tops. However, I slept well after an OK dinner.
