" Holiday Sept 09 leaves a lot to be desired "

Four over fifty females in two apartments Sept 09. The staff are not very friendly and really need a customer service training course. Surley, indifferent and not at all helpful, lousy English so difficult to make yourself understood. They pretend to be friendly but actually couldn't care less! Rip off air con at 10 euros a day. 20 minute walk into Afandou and 5-7 Euro for a taxi back at night. Shot of Baileys was 4.5 euros beer was 2 euros a pint but very watered down we thought. Food was ok but not brilliant and very very expensive. 2 euros for a cup of tea, 2 euros for 2 rounds of toast and jam.
Best place to eat in Afandou was Sergios upstairs, the best sirloin I have ever had for 10 euro. Lovely friendly staff from England but well respected in the town.
No, we wouldn't go to Georgias again, maid came in 3 times only, showers were rubbish unless you were a size 10. Rooms were a good size but balcony was tiny.

Advice: Afnadou town is ok but it's a walk from the apartment

" Clean rooms but rude/greedy owners "

We got back from the Georgia Apartments (booked with Olympic) on 27th August 2009. I booked this place on the strength of some very positive reviews by former guests. The accommodation was neither as bad or as good as some reviewers have made out, in my opinion. Our "welcome" by hotel staff at 5.30am in the morning was very abrupt, as some other reviewers have pointed out. A man showed us to a set of stairs at the back of the complex and pointed us in the general direction, which was up a flight of stairs. We booked two studio apartments, because we are a family of five, and as the accommodation was described as self-catering, we expected adequate cooking facilities. These consisted of a kettle, two cooking rings; one big and one small, a large saucepan, a small frying pan, three knives, three spoons, three bowls and three plates. There was nothing to wash salad or rice and no proper cooking utensils. No toaster, microwave or oven - so don't expect to be able to cook anything really. The rooms themselves were quite spacious and modern, with a nicely tiled bathroom and a balcony with no view (the ones with the view over the pool and the sea in the distance are reserved for bookings direct with Sarah, with which you also get TV and a DVD player). The maid came every two/three days to clean and change towels. She was very good apart from forgetting to replenish the loo roll. We had to go out and buy more, which I have never had to do before! The pool was a bit small for the number of guests, and in the first week the sunbeds were taken by 9am each morning. This didn't bother us too much as we like the beach and to travel around the island, but for sun worshippers not wishing to leave the hotel this could be irritating. The pool area was clean and well maintained though, with a small garden and pretty oleander bushes/olive trees and vines dotted around, and a small play area for very young children. The entertainment was limited; a weekly Greek night (the staff and three local dancers being the only Greeks in attendance), and a barbecue and party night. We paid 10 Euros each for the Greek night which was fun because a big party from Sheffield were there, aswell as the guests, so lots of people to join in the dancing. The staff's kids were part of the act and they were sweet. The barbecue was not great food and the karaoke was poorly attended. This is because most guests preferred to eat in the village, where there is more choice and a friendlier atmosphere. The food is cheaper there too. We paid 2 Euros for a can of coke, and two Euros for a beer. A bacardi and coke was 4 Euros 50 cents. Nik and Ilias (part of the family owners) constantly call you "my friend" but they are far from friendly. Ilias spent a lot of the time on his mobile phone, and most nights it seemed like an effort for any of the family to get up from their table next to the pool to actually come and serve someone at the bar. As a family of five we ended up paying about 30 Euros a day on drinks alone in the bar, and yet I heard Billy moaning about people not spending enough. He and his family should try smiling a bit more and not ripping you off for aircon, which would have cost us 280 Euros for the two weeks had we paid for it. Luckily, there was a breeze most nights and we're used to heat anyway, so we did without. If you order food there (not that great and not that generous compared to Afandou village restaurants), it is plonked down in front of you unceremoniously and without so much as a smile.
The beach is a 15 minute walk across the main road and down a smaller lane, or you can take a tourist train from the village to a beach area with tavernas nearby. The beach is shingle but the water is lovely and crystal clear. The village is 15 minute in the other direction and there are enough restaurants to eat out every night in a different one (which we practically did). Buses are fairly frequent to Rhodes, less frequent and often full at peak times to Lindos, making it necessary to hire a car for convenience and to see the island. The West side of the island is great for small secluded beaches with clear water. Lindos has a nice sandy beach but is crowded, Lindos itself being very pretty. The butterfly valley, Kamiros, Rhodes town and Lindos all worth visiting. The kids loved the waterpark at Faliraki too. My best experience was a visit to Symi island, a two hour boat ride away.
Our holiday was good as the kids made lots of friends because of course most of the guests were English. We wouldn't normally book this type of holiday as we like to feel we are in a foreign place, but in fairness, you get what it says on the can. Fairly cheap basic holiday with OK accommodation in a not very good location (main road and had to walk 15 minutes to get anywhere intersting)

Advice: Nice village with plenty of restaurants and a few bars.

Activities: Four Seasons Restaurant - service with a smile and very reasonable.

Good for: Beach

" Everything You Need "

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, and were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. There were lots of friendly staff in and around the bar/pool area, who quickly checked us in and showed us to our rooms. Inside, the kitchen area was fairly small and basic, but nonetheless adequate, as we chose to eat out every night rather then cook inside. There was a small kitchen table, a fridge, a kettle, and a two ring hob, however the bedrooms were very large, each with two beds, a wardrobe and a dressing table. Very clean too. We also had a balcony in each bedroom, one overlooking the pool area. The pool opens at 9am and is very spacious, surrounded by lots of sunbeds, which are free to use. If you feel hungry or thirsty, there are tables outside the bar area, close to the pool, and you can order at the bar. They have a wide range menu, including Greek Specialities such as Stifado, Souvlaki etc. and things like Pizza and Spaghetti and Sandwiches. These are all a fairly inexpensive price. We stayed at the apartments on Friday night for the Greek Night. You have to book by Thursday evening and is 10 euro for adults and 7 euro for children. On the night, you are served a meal consisting of; bread, Greek Salad, Pork Souvlaki with rice and chips. We had hired a car, but mainly used the infrequent bus service. They run from behind the hotel and despite having a timetable, they never arrive on time, but they are very cheap and can get you places cheaper than a taxi. From Afandou to Rhodes Town, is 2 euro, and to Faliraki is 1.40 euro. If you opt for the 20 minute walk into the village, there are lots of restaurants and bars, with TV screens, and a blue train that runs round Afandou and to the beach and back. If you choose to walk from the apartments to the beach, this again is about a 20 minute, unscenic walk along some sandy gravel, and the beach is very long and desolate, slightly shingly but nice once you get past the stones. There was one little cafe shack on the beach which serves sandwiches and drinks. Next door but one to the apartments is a supermarket which sells cigarettes, newspapers, fruit, drinks, and downstairs has lots of food. We would definitely recommend the Four Seasons, which is down a street slightly to the left of the town hall in main Afandou. It gets very busy, so you may have to wait a while for your food, but the food is absolutely lovely and the staff are very friendly. All the staff in the village and in bars and restaurants are very friendly as you will see. Even though these apartments are a short distance away from anything, they are definitely worth visiting, and even if you don't stay here, you can use the pool for free if you are passing. Stay at Georgia, you will be made very welcome, and can easily walk into Afandou or to the beach, and catch the bus if you want to travel somewhere further. It is truly a lovely place.

Advice: These apartments are lovely and spacious, with very friendly staff. We would definitely come back!

Activities: The Four Seasons, Life Garden, Sergio's. Must see Butterfly Valley, Rhodes Old Town!

" Fab Holiday "

I have to agree with the previous review having just returned from the Georgia apartments. Our stay was 22nd of July to 5th of August 2009 and we were a family of 2 adults with our 2 children. I had been concerned in case this was not such a child friendly place, but we needent have had any worries. All in all we couldnt fault a thing. The apartments were extremely well managed and very clean, towels, bins and bedding changed 3 times a week, and the maid was excellent. The pool and surrounding area was well maintained and at the time we was there it was a nice mix of people, both younger and older couples and families. Our apartment, room 3001 had a double bedroom and was very spacious and overlooked the pool and beacause we were on the top floor had lovely views out to sea(albiet over the golf course and a distance away). The only thing I thought was expensive was the air con, but it was an essential cost, having tried our first night without. I knew there would be a daily charge of about 8 euro but never realised that we had to times that by 2 because we had 2 bedrooms that required the air con!
We had a hire car for the whole 2 weeks which we picked up on our arrival at the airport and to me this made the whole diffence to our holiday. This couldnt have been a more superb base from which to travel to other resorts. Im not too sure that I would have felt the same about where the Georgia are placed had we had not had our car. We visited, Lindos, which is stunning, Rhodes town, which we also loved and every evening went into one of these or Falaraki or kolympia, which was just down the road. The days we didnt stay around the pool we went on our travels and saw the beautiful island, including butterfly valley and ancient kamiros. The beach is not good in Afandou, unless you dont mind shingle, you need to go into Falaraki for the nearest good one and the village is fairly quiet, but there is a selection of bars and restaurants. I think had I have had to stay there with no car for 2 weeks i may have been tearing my hair out but as a base from which to travel it couldnt be beaten because there is no doubt that the accomodation was great. The Greek night run by the apartments is good value for money and everyone seemed very frendly, especially towards the kids. All in all great accomodation and a beautiful island.

Advice: small village with small selection of bars and restaurants

Activities: Favourite to visit, Rhodes Old Town, Lindos, Pefkos and Falaraki

" Our Holiday "

My wife and I have recently returned from a two week stay at the Georgia 2 apartments in Afandou, Rhodes. Our holiday period was from 23 July to 6 August 2009.All flights, transfers etc from both ends went to schedule and Thomas Cook delivered a good package deal as promised. The Georgia apartments were very clean and maid service was excellent. All facilities provided were to a good standard with a large pool, adequate sun loungers and poolside restaurant. The apartment complex was well managed with no excessive noise levels at any time (particularly at night)were child friendly and had a happy relaxed atmosphere.Local transport was available immediately outside the apartments with a good local taxi service. All staff were friendly and would assist in any capacity if required.
Everyone looks for something in a holiday and as far as we are concerned we got all of what we expected from it.We made new friends, talked to everyone and generally got on with it.I am always mindful that I am a tourist in a foreign country where the outlook and culture will be different and that I have to adapt to that change of pace of life.

Advice: A small friendly town with a wide range of eating and drinking places for all tastes.

Activities: Four Seasons Restaurant, Sergios, Mikes Bar, Life Bar etc. Done Tzambeeki Beach, Jeep Safari, Lindos

Good for: City Breaks

" lovely but! "

we arrived early hours of the morning and was shown our room -ok we were told where it was- but come on guys this is not a 5* hotel-with porters-it is self catering accomadation
the down side - we had one meal in the evening after waiting TOO LONG FOR THE BBQ MEAL AND THE GREEK NIGHT - BOTH MEALS ARE SERVED MUCH TOO LATE AND THIS PUT ALOT OF PEOPLE OFF
we found sarah to be very helpful - and it also appeared she was the same to everyone-- you work too hard for them sarah -
we also found that of an evening we had to wait ages for a drink-there was never anyone in the bar -and when they did serve you they were so rude especially the daughter
nik and ilia were good although nik was a bit miserable
air condition is far too expensive - then again alot of things were far too expensive
good side
afandou village was fantastic- the bars were entertaning- acapolco was a laugh and they looked after you- the square was good fun too tasso is mad
teh weather also great - all in all we did have a really good holiday- would go back to georgia but only for the day times -the evenings were far to boring- if you like tv and understand greek then ok- but i thought it very rude to have this blaring out when you are trying to have a drink-- where was the music

Advice: afandou is a great village

Activities: four seasons-danielles and sergios - were good -mimi is the best and far by the cheapest

" Bloody Ignorant People "

Well we arrived early in the morning only to be met by the most miserable person you could wish to meet we got of the bus to be met by a buildin site there extending the road to a dual carriage way
when we finally got in to the reception /bar we were met by this man who took us to the bottom of the stairs and told us our rooms were up there given our keys and a slip of paper thats it
The next morning going down for breakfast we were to recieve a shock the women in charge was English Sarah was her name good we thought so we went on to order an English breafast thinking you cant go wrong here Wrong the bacon was smoked streaky 1 sausage 1 egg beans thats it the toast cost extra and the tea does too
We enquired about Air con and was told it was €10 a day payable up front we did not bother paying that and the rules state that if you buy a fan and thay find it it will be confiscated ( buy one when you go out of the room lock it up in your suitcase ) we did makes a lot cheaper
never had a meal in the restaurant so cannot comment on this but was never busy at all
The rules are there for everyone to adheer to so why was the family of the owner Billy allowed to go swimming after 7 pm when the pool closes
My daughter was to complain about the lack of hot water in her room this went on for three days and when the maintance man arrived she was told the room was not in a good place for the sun to reach the solar panel to warm the water nexts doors water was ok she could have a shower after 12 midday as this is when the sun got there turned out
this was wrong as the pipes were blocked and if you have a 3 year old child you like to shower in the morning as its so hot
The location of the apartments is a good 15 minute walk from the village you cannot walk on the maine road as there working on them
The kiddies play area needs up dateing also you cant see them as the trees need pruning
The room are very basic single beds table and sisde table shower basin and toilet kept really clean (the cleaners were the best)
every night was the same you had to pay for the entertainment the only night that was free was cancelled and the family sat round the pool area talking to each other and bnot bothering with us even when we needed a drink from the bar we had to go to them and ask for service
The one time we did manage to find someone working in the bar area was the 15 year old grandson who took 10 mins to serve you as he was watching cartoons
On the very last night we were there we finally saw Savvy who happened to turn up to meet people who had bopoked direct with them vip treatment drinks bought for them cases taken to the rooms and was sat down talking to them wish they would have done that with the rest of us who booked through the travel agents we might have gone back
overal;l the place is basic for what you need needs better staff who believe in manners and thinking if it was not for the tourist we would be nothing
also the pool needs to be maintaned a lot maore never saw it cleaned or the suroung areas too

Advice: quaint village beautiful tavernas lovely walks around it

Activities: all the area are good for seeing hire a car and get out in the middle of the island

" Rubbish place "

We arrived in the early hours of the morning and were told by a grumpy looking man where our apartment was and handed the key. We then had to drag our heavy suitcases up two flights of steps. Not a good start.
The next day we decided to enquire about air conditioning because the room was absolutely boiling. Was absolutely disgusted to find out it was ten euros a day so 70 in total for our stay which we had to pay up front. Although an extortionate amount of money + a big chunk out of our spending money it was necessary because of how hot it was.
The pool facilities were poor. No sunbeds at all for the duration of our stay however we found several lovely pool facilities in Faliraki with plenty of sunbeds and top class pools-free of charge.
We went into Faliraki every day + night using the bus service and taxis. There was a lot more to do there and the beach was lovely so would have preferred staying there.
The staff were moody and not interested in the guests unless you booked direct!
Only real good points about the apartments was they were kept very clean.
Wouldn't bother coming back here.

Advice: Boring

" Not the Best "

We stayed at the Georgia Apartments in June/09 and on 1st sight we were extremely dissapointed. We arrived at the hotel late in the evening (which we expected) and found the road outside the hotel was undergoing repairs (Widening we think) so we had to literally DRAG our suitcases across the rubble to the hotel gates (about 15yds) and was shown into the reception area by the Rep. We were met by a gruff looking guy that uttered something in Greek and led us to the bottom of a stairway, he pointed up the stairs and walked away so we carried our suitcases up 2 flights to our room. As we entered the room it was honestly like walking into an oven (wow was it hot) We quickly opened the balcony door but that didn`t make it any cooler so we decided we were going to enquire about air-con, we checked out the notices on the wall just inside the room and to our horror it said "Air conditioning = 10euro per day" we were there for 14 days and it would have been a massive chunk of our holiday money so we decided against it.
In the morning (having had an awful nights sleep on extremly uncomfortable beds and the noise on the road outside the hotel) we went onto the balcony and was pleasantly suprised by the view, we could see all the way to the beach and the surrounding areas. The welcome meeting was at 10.30am so we both went down to find out what there was to find in Rhodes, the Rep was very friendly and explained the excursions offered by Thomas Cook and the prices for car hire (very expensive) It would have cost 140euro to have a car for 3 days (and that was with only 3rd party insurance) and an extra 4euro per day to have a theft waiver in case someone steals it.
We decided before taking our holiday that we were going to hire a car but to have to pay that amount for only 3 days we felt was a rip off, as we were deciding how long we should hire a car for the waitress told us that she could do it for a lot less so we waited for the rep to leave and asked her about it. She was able to get us a car (Fully insured) for 200euro for 10 days with a local rental company and we took up the offer.
We toured the whole island and found only a few `nice` beaches, most were very long or very busy touristy beaches. We like secluded coves which haven`t been over developed and found the very beach (in fact 3 beaches close together) at Anthony Quinn Bay. It was very nice there with some nice small Taverna`s and plenty of sunloungers, we spent most of our holidays there.
The hotel itself was very nice with a good swimming pool and bar/restaurant area. It is only a pity that the owners are possibly the most ignorant people we have ever met!!! They had very little time for the guests, turned the TV in the bar area away from an english channel when a group of family arrived which was on many occasions. Guests would stand at the bar waiting to be served while family members sat at a table just outside the bar area talking amongst themselves and so it is no wonder that the restaurant and bar was empty most evenings (incredibly rude people)
A little tip for people not wanting to pay 10euro per night on air-con; On the notice board it stated that if they found a Fan in the room they would confiscate it. We bought a fan and used it through the night, in the morning I would take the fan part off it and lock it away in the suit cases until needed again in the night. One part in one case and the Fan blades in the other suitcase.
We would certainly NOT recommend The georgia Apartments or Afantou (very little to do there and a hike from the hotel) to anyone going to Rhodes, the resort of Lindos is far better with `everything` that anyone could want in a holiday destination.

Advice: Poor fascillities and activities, limited Taverna`s

Activities: LINDOS, ANTHONY QUINN BAY

" Judith sunderland "

We had a two bedroom apartment for the two of us very spacious and clean, as I am a travel agent didn't book till the week before. extremely pleased with the accommodation, on the down side the managment and staff especially Sarah only had time for you, if you were a regular and you booked directly with herself. From us getting there we asked if we could pay to keep the room on for our last day as we were on a early morning flight back home, but were told it shouldn't be a problem, however come back and ask nearer the date for departure when they could check to see what guests were due to come. We did this only to be told to come back on the day of departure. Three times we were backwards and forwards to be told NO. This was the responce everyone got who had not booked direct with SARAH. We could have booked into the golf view over the road had we been told earlier. This totally spoiled a number of the guests last day of their holiday. Also be warned courtesey room provided is only a shower room no electic point for ladies to dry hair and you are charged 5euro each for the privaledge.SARAH is English married to the owner.

" we found our return visit not as good... "

we found our return visit not as good as usual -- we wanted to book direct but sarah was full so had to go with thomas cook--
we did find this year that the owners were less friendly everything was for their own family-- we pay to go on holiday so why don't we get a piece of friut or a few nibbles on the table of an evening-- we found that when the family or their friends was there they had everything on the table
sarah is fantastic and very chatty to all guests -savvas her husband was always chatty the best he could be as we noticed if he spoke to us nik the owner would be shouting savvas savvas do this!!-- illias was good but had to wait for our drinks especially if he was talking to his friends-- nik has no interset in any of the guests unless they have got a house from him--he shouted out one morning the house biusness is better than this=that made us all feel great-not
all in all great place-- menu needs updating not alot of choice
and i have already complained to thomas cook as i thought it disgusting that they were advertising a sex shop on the bar--this is a family hotel-- not a bar in faliraki
keep up the good work sarah or better still find your own complex
because they have lost interest-- we have been going to georgia for 10 years but we may go elsewhere in afandou next year where we will be made more welcome-soory billy but you are all losing it

" It was our 1st holiday in Rhodes but... "

It was our 1st holiday in Rhodes but our 3rd Greek holiday. We booked it with Thomas Cook about 2 weeks beforehand and whilst we had done some research on the place, we did not expect too much of a late-deal.

We arrived in the middle of the night and were given our key and instructions about electricity. We were very tired and it took us some time to understand what slot the key had to be put in to get the electricity to start in the apartment. Seriously it is VERY simple and VERY obvious, but it was 5 in the morning... I was worried the fridge would turn itself off when we left the apartment but we checked and it didn't!

Anyway we were nicely surprised to see the apartment: spacious, clean, bright, and NOT inland view, but a nice seaview in the background! Everything was brand new and soooooo clean! It was basic -don't get me wrong- and we couldn't have invited any friends around (2 glasses, 2 knives, 2 forks, etc...) but it was excellent! The balcony was spacious too, we could even sunbathe on it! The shower was great too, so much pressure and hot water all day and night! Our towels and sheets were changed twice and the apartment was also cleaned twice; I do sometimes read reviews where people complain about this, at the end of the day guys it is self-catering! If you're not happy about the sand you bring back from the beach, then clean it yourself! I thought twice was sufficient (plus they replaced the toilet rolls, tiny detail but the 1st time I had experienced that in self-catering accommodation). We paid 6 Euros a day for air-con, it is a must-have!

We were on the 3rd floor (hence the nice view) which was only a pain climbing up with the luggage, but not a problem for the rest of the stay. There are lots of apartments on the groundfloor, 1st or 2nd, so I'm sure you could ask to stay in one of those if you prefered.

The pool is great, a very decent size, plenty of sunbeds and side tables, although lots of people tend to "reserve" their sunbeds quite early in the morning. It is very clean, we saw Billy cleaning it every night, and testing the water as well.

It is a family-run place, and they organise some super not-to-be-missed nights, that are very good value for money! We attended the Greek night (10 Euros) and the Karaoke night (8 Euros). The Greek night was fab: plenty of food (Greek salad, Souvlaki, rice, vegetables, etc) and so much fun, dancing, etc. You MUST get involved though!!! Drinks are not included in the 10 Euros but prices at the bar are reasonable, so it works out very well. If you attended a Greek night with your rep you'd pay 35 to 45 Euros! The karaoke night involved some good food again, I had the vegetarian moussaka that was delicious! I didn't sing but it was still fun.

The apartments are situated between the main road and the road that goes up to Afandou but even from the balcony we couldn't hear any noise. From inside the apartment we couldn't hear a thing, I was worried about the possible noise from the bar but the double-glazing was wonderful! The beach is about 15 minutes walk and the center of Afandou 15 minutes as well. Before I booked the holiday I was worried about the walking, but I was glad we were away from the center as Afandou can be quite hectic traffic-wise! And it is a nice easy walk anyway, even with children.

On our final day we had to vacate our apartment by midday, which could have been a nightmare as our transfer was at 1 in the morning, but it wasn't: we could leave our suitcases safely in a room behind the bar (there were tens of them!) and in the evening for 5 Euros you could have the key to the "courtesy shower" which was lovely, clean, with fresh towels, etc. The bar remained opened late that night so you could wait in there for your rep to collect you.

Last but not least, the garden is gorgeous and so well-looked after!

I was very sad to leave and I wish I had booked 10 days or 2 weeks. I will definitely be back and would happily recommend this place to my friends and family.

Thanks everyone at Georgia's, we had a super week!
