Arriving at 03.30am we were greeted...
9 / 10
Sep 2006, Mr A.J. Baacke

Arriving at 03.30am we were greeted by a member of staff who showed us quickly to our apartment and helped with the luggage, handy when it's upstairs. Found the accommodation to be basic but very roomy, nice wardrobes with plenty of space, nicely surprised to find towels provided and changed every other day with the sheets.
If you were happy to, there was no need to leave the complex except perhaps to visit the supermarket next door as all you need is onsite. The snack bar/restaurant is open from 8am until 11pm and provides good quality food at reasonable prices, we dined there almost every evening without any problems.
The swimming pool area is excellent with free sun beds but despite warning notices, some selfish people persisted in reserving beds with towels and arriving hours later. I feel that the hardly used games room would be better employed as a lounge area with settees etc. somewhere to relax and meet new friends.
Minus points: no table or chairs on the balcony, quite noisy at night from the roads at front and back and the resident family and friends could be noisy until quite late but lovely in all other respects. As an observation, the apartment we stayed in, which can be seen on the website is in the older part of the complex, there are approx.32 other more modern apartments which are over the restaurant but never seem to be shown in any advertising. I suspect that they are pre leased to the tour operators and therefore not able to be booked privately, don't see this as a reason to omit them from the pictures as they add to the overall ambience of the complex.
Our stay was for two weeks but used a rental car for eleven days to explore the island, would have been very boring otherwise. In conclusion, good facilities, nice people, good for children, great food, good value for money, well worth a visit.
Would we go again? Good question, maybe but not for a while as there are many more places to visit in the Greek Islands. I booked our holiday on the internet at a very cheap price, lots less than other folk paid as I found out by talking to various other people during the holiday, even cheaper than booking direct with the GEORGIA complex. All in all a very nice holiday at a good price, Regards from Tony, Sue and Nichola.

We stayed at the Georgia Apartments...
9 / 10
Jul 2006, Mrs A Murray

We stayed at the Georgia Apartments last September and loved it. The family are very welcoming and friendly, the apartments basic (standard for Greece) but very clean and an excellent base to visit the rest of the island.
The village centre is about 15 minute walk away where you can catch a bus into Faliraki, Lindos or Rhodes town, much better than organised tours with the travel operators. The food at the apartments was delicious, however, it is worth a visit up to the village centre to sample the local restaurants (Sergios was our favourite) and bars.
We would definitely return to the Georgia Apartments, however, would consider booking direct and arranging our own flights, (the apartments are about 20 minute taxi ride from the airport), and this could save you money.

Well I'm sat here on a rainy Sunday...
9 / 10
Jun 2006, Mr P Hazlett

Well I'm sat here on a rainy Sunday morning having just returned from a one week stay at the Georgia to celebrate my 40th Birthday and wondering why on earth I came back to the UK!
I agree with the previous reviews of this hotel with the obvious exception of the 4/10 review by someone who clearly felt that their review was so fair they didn't want to leave their name!
As soon as we arrived the family were there with the keys to our apartment and from stepping off the bus to getting into the apartment was less than 5 minutes (very welcome at 4 in the morning).
The apartments are basic but of a high standard - all of Greece is basic that's why we love it. They were clean, modern and the one we had (unfortunately named Room 101!) was very cool and no need for use of the (expensive, 6 Euro a day) air conditioning: despite temperatures peaking at 39 degrees whilst we were there. Crockery and cutlery was a bit limited but the main thing was a corkscrew was supplied for the £2 a bottle Greek wine from the supermarket next door - who needs food!
The supermarket is very well stocked and cheap (bearing in mind it has no competition what so ever). The lady who served there was from Stockport originally and was very helpful in supplying info for buses and taxis etc.
The pool area had ample free sun beds, there's a children's park, bar with large screen TV (Sky Sports etc) - if that's your thing on holiday, a restaurant area and "play room" with pool table (euro 1.50 a game with the biggest pockets you've ever seen: a very quick way to go through your holiday budget!), and other "pay to play" amusements (about 50 cents a go).
The pool has a cordoned off child friendly area as the main pool does shelve off to 2.5M rather quickly - keep an eye on any youngsters. The sun remains around the pool more or less all day with only the sun beds near the bar area beginning to lose the sun around about 4pm - there are plenty of areas of shade for the non sun worshippers as well.
The family are great and the food is the best I have had in Greece - you must try the Beckry Meze, Stifado or Village Sausage! (having a 13 year old son who watches Little Britain day in day out, ordering a "portion of Village Sausage" at night became more like a Carry On film!). The nice twist on the menu is that it is all home cooked unless it has "(frozen)" written after the dish - an excellent idea that all restaurants should adopt.
The bar is cheapish (2 Euro for a local ice cold beer, 400ml) but the kid's drinks and the wine were, we thought, expensive. The seems to be something that is happening in Greece a lot - one bar in Afandou charged 1.8 Euro for a beer and 6 Euros for two local Cola's!! In Rhodes a CAN of Pepsi worked out at £2.20 in most restaurants! Oh for the days of the Drachma.
Why only 9 out of 10? The issue with the Georgia for us is the location on a busy main road (but you cannot here the road from the apartments - it is set back off the road) - it's neither near the sea (they claim 300 metres, they fail to point out that at best this is "as the crow flies and directly over a golf course that is protected by barbed wire!) Which is a good 20 minutes walk away or in Afandou, again another 20 minutes walk away. I'm not one of these who don’t like walking and I like a quiet and peaceful holiday but you did feel a bit tied to the complex if you wanted a night out without a long walk back.
Would I recommend it? Most definitely YES - it appeals to young and old alike with kid's loving the pool, park and family and the older set being able to relax or use it as a good base for walking and getting around the island of Rhodes.
Would I go there again? Good question - there was nothing to stop me from going back except the location but the complex, family and food were all fantastic and I would like to think that I would return but for no more than a week. Personally two weeks would be too long for me unless you like just "crashing out" by the pool - then it's ideal.
Do I have any top tips? Yes.
1. Never, ever turn up at the welcome meetings or book the tour operator trips. If trips are your thing then book with the Georgia family - e.g. Boat trip to Symi 37 Euro with TC, 21 Euro with the family and you were on the same boat!
2. Price up booking direct with the Georgia and arranging your own flights / taxi transfers it sounds scary but it's not and although I went with Thomas Cook I could have saved nearly £200 booking direct - that would have paid for the Coca Cola's!!
I hope this review has helped - enjoy the Georgia, you won't be disappointed!
All the best
Paul.

Apartments only built two years ago...
10 / 10
Jun 2005, Mr G Smith

Apartments only built two years ago so in very good condition all with air conditioning (thirty euros per week).
Excellent maid service with bins emptied almost daily - sheets twice weekly. Smashing facilities with lovely pool - children’s play garden with swings etc - restaurant - entertainment twice per week with a Greek night on the Friday and Karaoke on a Tuesday. Niko and his brother run the place and are always willing to help.
Only two complaints and that was the lack of kitchen utensils and the lack of balcony furniture as we had to keep moving the chairs out and in.
The Georgia is situated a mile away from the village of Afandou (we hired a scooter for the week but this will take you 15 mins if you are walking) There is a very good taxi service from the village square. The beach is a 20 min walk away and is four miles long made up of shingle and sand and you can pick your spot and never see anyone although it gets busier at the weekends when the local people come down for a swim.
Highly recommended and have already made plans to return.

We booked a week here - and to be...
4 / 10
Sep 2004,

We booked a week here - and to be honest I’ve had better holidays. Apartments were ok but were very basic and could have been cleaner. Mattresses on the beds were rock hard!
Food in bar very nice. Be careful in the bar - we got drinks one night and paid for them but didn’t keep the receipt, the bar staff thought it hadn’t been paid and we ended up paying again - always keep the receipt - don’t leave it on the bar!!!! Be warned this hotel is in the middle on nowhere! Its a good twenty minute walk into the centre of afandou.
Falaraki is a good night out for all ages - don’t believe the hype, I was very wary but my partner persuaded me to go and I really enjoyed it. The club 18-30 have been seriously limited as to what they cane get up to now so its made it much safer.
Also be careful if you go on any of the tours through the Thomas cook rep - they are long long days with very early pickups and late drop-offs! Island tour is waste of time - you get to listen to some middle-aged Greek guy rant about how much he hates the Germans as well as being dragged round to all his friends shops, restaurants and bars!

Georgia Apts, Afandou.. My wife...
10 / 10
Jun 2004, Mr R Patterson

Georgia Apts, Afandou..
My wife and I 'found' The Georgia Apartments while on a walk back from Afandou beach way back in 1992. It was in August of that year and the temperature was in the 100's, we called in to the Georgia for a much needed cooling drink and was served by Vasilis or 'Billy' as his many British friends call him.
We were made very welcome by Billy and his wife 'Georgia' (after whom the apartments are named) and also met their two sons and daughter that day.
Since that day in 1992, we have been back to Afandou every year for at least a weeks holiday as well as travelling elsewhere too, but hadn’t always stayed at the apartments because they were never empty at the time we wanted to go, so we have always stayed in Afandou in various other apartments. but used the Georgia pool everyday of our stay as well as the beach of course.
In May 2003, we had a week at the Georgia to make arrangements for our wedding which was to be in Afandou in the August of 2003.
Billy and the whole family at the Georgia were brilliant that week, driving us here and there making phone calls to the mayor and the town hall in Rhodes Town to obtain the necessary paperwork etc! nothing was too much trouble for them.
We were married in August 2003 in Afandou at the Monastery, with Billy et al and also friends from Britain in attendance, we then went back to the Georgia Apartments for our Greek reception in the restaurant. We had a fantastic wedding day at the Georgia that day, our first anniversary there was just as good too! and I'm sure that our 2 weeks in September 2005 will be no different.
We have seen the Georgia Apartments change dramatically since that day in 1992 when Billy first served us that drink, now he has retired, but he is still there working away, his sons Illias and Nicos and daughter Barbara run the Georgia Apts now. Georgia, Billy's wife still cooks those fabulous Greek dishes for the restaurant and there sons run a great bar!.
There are times when the Georgia is like an expats club, especially at the greek night!
Basic? Air-conditioning, Restaurant, Bar, Swimming Pool, Kids play area, entertainment, if that’s basic? It'll do for me!!!
You might be thinking, 'this guy is biased cos he's a friend' well yes! I suppose I am biased, if you've never been to Greece or Rhodes before, you will find no better place than this to start with.
yours sincerely
Ralph & Vicky
