NEVER AGAIN
from Oxford2006
We stayed at the Selge hotel in July. The hotel was clean and tidy. The only concerned was with the hotel managers and restaurant managers. The later because we chose not to eat in the restaurant as we found a fantastic place to eat almost next door, which made the restaurant manager very unhappy. To the point that each time we left the hotel he would question why we did not want to eat there. He was a pain. You can seat around the pool and eat and drink all day, and just pay the bill at the end, but be careful as the bar staff tend to add to the bill, so you MUST check. On our arrival we pointed out to the hotel manager that the door glass was broken. Three days into the stay the manager spoke to us about this problem and he told us we would have to pay for the damage as we broke the door (lucky for us one of the children had fimed on the first day and clearly showed the broken window). Showing this evidence to the hotel manager the subject we thought was closed and continued our holiday. On the last day however went to pay the final bill and again we were told we have to pay for the window. The police were called and followed by the Thomas Cook rep. Due to the above we lost our final night in the resort as the police told the hotel that we clearly had proved to them that the window was clearly broken on our arrival. At this point the hotel manager had to agree bur we were unable to leave our luggage at the hotel as we were leaving at midnight.
We would return to the Selge

Stayed at the Selge Hotel for two weeks and found it the best holiday I'd had, the hotel was immaculate, air conidtioning excellent. I had no problem paying for my meals as I had them, you can leave your bill till your departure but i opted to pay as I went. The staff were friendly and would accomodate your needs, especially Ebo & Hassan. I had an apartment looking onto the Motel mentioned in the previous review and never saw any action, there was prostitutes but it was more entertaining than troublesome. You can see that anywhere in the world, why would that spoil your holiday. Although i was there with my husband and son, there was not much entertainment at the hotel for children, so I would advise couples only. Food & Drink were very reasonable prices from 60p for Effes Beer and £5 for an evening meal, which includes a free lavach Bread and dips before your meal and a freshly prepared fruit platter after your meal. Air conditioning was £20 per week. Internet Access was 80p per hour. Taxi & Bus service right at the door, £2 taxi into Pefkos and 80p on the bus. They have a free beach bus which leaves at 10 & 11am every morning and picks you up again at 4pm. We would definitely return and recommend the Selge Hotel

My partner and I have just returned from a lovely but hot week in Side, Turkey. Only after we had booked did I come across the somewhat alarming reviews given earlier. They could not be further from our own experience at this marvellous hotel. All the employees without exception were warm and friendly from the bar and restaurant staff ( Hi to Hassan and Osman) to the lady who cleaned our rooms to an extremely high standard. The rooms are spacious and immaculate and the pool is fantastic. As vegetarians we were apprehensive as to the variety of dishes available, however, the chef soon came up with a wide range of delicious meals and I would particularly recommend the ' Imam Bayeldi'. As someone once said - We arrived as strangers and left as friends. The Turkish Night is good fun and the beer is the cheapest in Side. (2 TL) There was no sign of a brothel, it appeared to have been closed.
was ok but...

i stayed here with my mum last year just as a late deal. when i arrived i though it looked a bit quiet and scruffy and i didnt like the hotel manager (the short and chubby one) he was a bit creepy towards me. i must say i didnt have any problems with the hotel but we ended up moving rooms from the 3rds floor to the 1st floor as those stairs were a bit lethal! my only major problem was the brothel next door as we heard women gettin beat up by their pimps and everytime we left the hotel we got approched my punters especially as i have blonde hair n blue eyes. i though the bar lads were lovely and was gutted when i left

me and my friend have just returned from selge hotel, our stay was for a week which was by far too short, on our arrival at the selge hotel we was made very welcome by the staff we was not hassled in any way to purchase more than what we asked for, the bar was kept open for us until we were ready to go to bed, our rooms were very very clean and the cleaner came in daily to change beds etc. the restaurant was excellent the meals were always freshly prepared and there was no problem with getting food any time of day from there, a local dish there is very much recommended clap nacles! bar prices there were very cheap too, in our week there we left the hotel twice our holiday was made completley by staying in the hotel all the hotel staff looked after us very very well they couldnt do enough for us, they were always asking if we were ok but in no way did we find them hassling us, they were very good company and very entertaining when we left the hotel all the staff came out to say good bye and waved us off on the coach which we found very touching, i have been home two days now and im still missing everyone at selge hotel infact im missing them that much ive already booked to go back in september, a big thank you to you all at the selge hotel for making my holiday the best ive ever had love and miss you all.xxx kaz.xxxx
Friendly staff at the Selge

Got back from the holiday 2 days ago having read the previous reviews and been worried about the hotel...we wasted a good worry! We were indeed asked at 3.15a.m. if we wanted air-con, TV etc but we just refused politely and that was accepted. The staff were very friendly and were really pleased that we tried to master 'please', 'thank-you' etc in Turkish. The cleaner was sympathetic when we presented her with a stained pillowcase after one of our sons had a nosebleed in the night. To top it all, when we celebrated our wedding anniversay, we were given a table decorated with flowers and a lovely cake. We paid for all our drinks and food as we went along, so no nasty surprises at the end. The pool was great, always clean. We watched out for the streetwalkers and the brothel with interest but they must have been closed down as we saw no-one. Although it is a walk into the resort the local minibuses (dolmus) pass every 6-7 minutes, £1.00 for 4 people. Side has loads of Roman ruins and is near lots of other sites, so if history is your thing you'll enjoy it. Recommend: Side caters mainly for Germans so take plenty of Euro's as sterling isn't used. Learn a couple of phrases in Turkish. Use local operators for trips out- half the price of Thomas Cook. Be prepared to say no thanks (or Nein danke!) LOTS as due to bird flu and a distinct lack of tourists everyone is desperate to sell.
what a nightmare

Arrived at 2am,hassled by staff straight away to pay for air conditioning, fridge tv,etc.rooms clean but basic.Because we didnt want to purchase anything from the hotel(food, trips etc)we found ourselves totally ignored which suited us as anyone who showed any interest were harassed for the rest of their holiday.TIP do not have anything on tab as by the end of your stay it will be grossly inflated. It is also a good job that the medical centre is just across the road as after our first trip to the beach(the morning we arrived)where raw sewage was floating our young son ended up in there on a drip with gastro-enteritis and we ended up having to stay round the hotel because of this (unfortunately)The best part of being on the first floor was watching the comings and goings of the ladies of the night who were working out of the hotel next door. Finally the resort, hassle from day one if you dont buy or go into their shops they insult you.In a word STAY AWAY!
we felt very welcome

for my first proper holiday abroad with my partner and our son we booked the selge. when we arrived we were given a room with only two single beds for three of us but the very next day they rectified the situation. for the whole two weeks that we were there we found the staff and most of the guests very very friendly. they couldn'd do enough to help us and tended to our every need. we always got our bill at the end of the night and there was only one misunderstanding a few days later with a bill but that was efficently sorted. We even sat and had a laugh with the staff from throwing them into the pool to having a sit and a chat at their quieter times. My son who was three at the time fell madly in love with alisha the receptionist who always had a kiss and a cuddle for him. Yes there is a brothel next door and our room did look out onto it but we had no problems and they seemed to be very discreet. The bar manager even helped us to book trips that were cheaper than through our rep. the only downfall of the location was that it was a trek away from town and the beach but the free bus twice a day to and from the beach and the constant flow of dolmus' got us there pretty sharp. on leaving the hotel ALL of the staff turned up to say goodbye and there were a few tears mine and staff. i would go back again if not for the location then for the friendlyness of the staff. If you're reading this selge staff we loved it and we all miss ya's Moore booking 6th sept 05
AWFUL Selge Hotel
from becksta
Do Not Stay There! My Fiance and I have just got returned from a holiday there and the hotel is awful, sorry. The staff are very dishonest when purchasing meals and drinks from the hotel retaurant and bar. They do not allow you to pay for food and drink at the end of your meal or at time of purchase. Instead, they ask you for your room number and everything goes on a tab. When it comes round to paying your bill, they have added items of food or drink onto your bill that you have not had, and it takes a lot of arguing to have these removed from your bill. This problem was encountered by nearly everyone staying there when we were there, and caused many upsets. Also the ground floor has no air conditiond, only floors 2 and 3. Lastly, it is situated next to the Elyulum Motel, which is a brothel frequented by Turkish men all night, including hotel staff!!, also there are prostitutes walking up and down outside te hotel touting business from passing cars. Apart from that, 15 mins from beach and 20 mins from town.

The hotel itself is a modern function hotel, the lobby area is impressive with glass roof. There are enough bars dotted around the hotel that you never really have to queue for drinks. The rooms within the hotel were of a good standard, which included a fridge and sat TV. ... more
