erm...never again!!
from Laura17047
the one word I would use to describe this hotel is filthy; it's in desparate need of a really good clean. the staff were freindly, helpful and polite but this didn't make up for the fact the the hotel was so grotty. For the £70 paid it was awful. One of the worst aspects is the restaurant on the top floor, the evening food was just truly appalling, whatever you do just don't order the vegetable stir fry! The breakfast in the morning was ok, certainly better than the evening food. its very hard to locate this hotel, which...

Won't be back unless it is renovated
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just back from an overnight stay. My sister and I went to a concert in Newcastle. We had stayed in this hotel a few years ago and had no problem but things have changed badly. Booking in was excellent. We arrived before the "room" was ready and are baggage was stored for us. The staff were very polite. Got our room............really shabby, curtains and windows filthy. Bathroom door didn't close, sink took ages to empty and noway could you put a foot into the disgusting bath. Good points............hot water, good breakfast,...

Last weekend in Newcastle
from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked this room with Ryanair Hotels and did not think it would be 5 star as it only cost £ 51 for 2 people First off I found the staff A1 everyone I came by was very nice The room was old and tatty (hey I paid £ 51 its ok) If your room shares a wall with one of its 3 lifts move to another room you will find it very hard to sleep If you intend to walk and you bad on your feet (old or infirm or someone who has problems with steps) this is not the place for you trust me, its built on top of a large car park and if...

great value, good location, recently renovated room
from weekend_er061
I read all the reviews before booking so knew what i would expect but i was very pleasantly surprised. we booked it for the location and free car park and they didn't disappoint. the communal areas were all very tidy and well looked after. We paid £104 in total for room only on a saturday and sunday night. Our room was on the third floor and appeared to have been renovated in the last 12 months as wall paper, fixtures and white bathroom were all in very good condition. there was some noise in the evening but that is to be expected...

For £70, Central Newcastle, what more do you want??
from TravelOnTeesside
OK, not a 5 star place, yes the windows were like greenhouses, could do with double glazing. Dripped in condensation and mould, yes you could hear all the goings on until the early hours but for the money it wasn't bad. I had read the reviews so was prepared with earplugs - worked a treat. Great seeing the police in action at 90's bar every 10 minutes, good entertainment. Breakfast was good, little greasy but we were able to mix and match what we wanted. Room, tired but very clean, towels good and shower in 319 the best I have...

Horrible hotel
from LittlemouseWiltshire
Well talk about time warp - 1960 here we come! Stayed in this hotel in Dec 2007 - part of a business trip. Bad points 1. Staff did not seem that interested in there work 2. Bad customer skills and facing 3. Asked for a map to where i was trying to get to (Wish i had not bothered if was a terrible copy - some parts i was unable to read) In the room 1. Bed sheets were ripped 2. Room was freezing cold all night was unable to sleep Good points 1. Great location (There are other hotels near)<br...

Quality in its heyday (about 1963)
from ANDBWestSussex
Being born in the 1970s, I had little idea of life in the 1960s but soon found out when I opened the door to room 318. Old wooden doors, old wooden furniture, a heavily marked carpet and peeling wallpaper were some of the nostalgic features on offer here. It was dark when I checked in to the hotel and the dim lighting in the room meant that I didn't see the nail protruding from one of the beds or what can only be described as a vomit stain on the carpet - two of the surprises which greeted me when I drew back the ancient curtains in the...

Depends what you're after.
from Stoatgobbler
Good points: Hotel is very central, right in the middle of town. It has its own secure car park on top of the Newgate Shopping Centre. The rooms are basically clean, the bed linen fresh. Staff are in the main friendly but I got the feeling that people try and rip them off so they are quite suspicious of everyone. Bad points: Hotel is very central, Newcastle is a very lively and noisy town, the rooms don't have triple glazing and it is needed. The hotel is quite run down, not dirty just in need of refurbishment, all over.<br...

Quality Hotel? A misnomer methinks
from halder
If you enjoy stepping back into a 60s timewarp, you'll love this place. If not, avoid like the plague. It's tagged on to a grim Arndale Centre-like shopping centre making it almost impossible to find. Once you've negotiated the passages which go on for ever you actually reach reception. Climb into the creaky lift to take you to your room and here the 60s really hit you. Lots of lovely, peeling wallpaper, wooden doors, wooden furnishings. There's no double glazing in the rooms, or at least not in mine on the fourth floor, which meant that...
