I loved staying at this hotel. The hotel was set in lovely grounds, with beautiful greenery all around it. The hotel is located just outside of Newcastle upon Tyne, making it perfect for a weekend break. You can shop during the day and then escape to the countryside in the... more

Awful Hotel, Nice Restaurant Though
When I made the booking I specified that the room must be non smoking as my partner suffers with very bad asthma. This request was re stated at check in, despite this we were given a smoking room. Upon complaining this was rectified, although without an apology. However it would appear that this was a complete waste of time. The hotels smoking rooms are on the second floor and the entire hotel is connected via one ventilation shaft. As a result of this smoke entered our room and there was nothing that could be done about this. When I explained the situation to the management they said there was nothing they could do. Had it not have been for the fact the Newcastle were playing at home that weekend, and therefore every other hotel full, we would have checked out. Accomodation aside the restaurant is very good value. Nothing particularly startling or inspiring, but well cooked basic food. It is a shame they seem to now be buying in their deserts as they were vile.
disappointing all round
Went for a romantic break, which was spoilt by "urgent" telephone calls to go down to reception at 10.30pm, as we had supposedly used an electron card (not allowed for some reason) to check in with. We do not even own an electron card so this could not be our mistake! - and they had been given my visa on telephone booking, and my husbands visa card on arrival so this could surely have waited until the morning- as was their mistake anyway. Pool area and changing room very dirty and ill kept - a huge hole in the floor of changing room awaiting repair. To get to pool you have to walk through cafe type area- tramping dirt etc into pool area. Breakfast was one of the poorest we have ever had anywhere- the first morning almost nothing left, and the cheese looked as though even mice would reject it. Cooked products looked and tasted like they had been made hours before. Toast similarly very cold and hard- inedible basically. The room was clean and the restaurant at night served fairly nice food, with music for dancing on saturdau night. However, overall a huge disappointment
Falling standards all round at Gosforth Park
Having stayed at the Gosforth Park many years ago and heard it had been the subject of some refurbishment I was looking forward to a leisurely weekend break. However, my wife and I were disappointed and noticed a slip in standards since our last stay. We had paid for an executive room which was small and disappointing. We were told the room had been refurbished but it did not reflect an executive room in 2005 comparable with other 4* or 5* hotels. Breakfast was a disaster with a half hour wait for scrambled eggs + kippers served cold and undercooked only to be taken away and the same kippers returned 10 minutes later! The hotel was very busy with weddings and very noisy at night. The kingsize bed was the most uncomfortable I have slept in. Also the bar area was filthy with cigarette ends littered all over the floor all night. When I drew it to the attention of staff I was told they were busy and short staffed. Profuse apologies from the restaurant manager and a 50% reduction in our bill followed but I will not be rushing back to Gosforth Park.
Brilliant place to stay
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and this was my second visit. Unlike some of the other comments, I was very impressed with the standard of service and food. I had a sticky Toffee pudding for dessert, which was quite frankly, to die for! After speaking to the waiters, I found out that the pastry chef is different to the one who was there last time. And a vast improvement if I do say so. The staff were friendly and willing to go out of their way to help me, even taking my wifes ice pack and storing it in the freezer. I would heartily reccomend this hotel to anyone!
Family Un-friendly!
I haven’t actually stayed here, but I did try to!! I rang to make a reservation and asked for a family room to accommodate 2 adults and 2 small children age 3 & 7 and was told "we don’t have rooms big enough for 4 people, we don’t have family rooms and we can’t put extra beds in the rooms, So we'd have to book 2 separate rooms!" How appalling, hence we'll not be staying!
Lovely hotel and staff
My husband and I stayed just for one night, on a B, B & EM basis, which happened to be the night of Valentine's day. The meal in the restaurant was lovely, the waiters very good, and they had made a real effort to make the night memorable, i.e. chocolates to take away and heart shaped confetti scattered on the table. The reception staff were also very friendly and polite. This is an excellent choice if attending the Gosforth Park racecourse, as we were, as it is actually just next door. We would definitely stay here again. As the hotel was not full, we had actually been given two adjoining rooms, giving us plenty of room. Full marks!
Comfortable
Comfortable hotel - although renovations going on at the moment but didn't see any work being done this weekend. Rooms well equipped - comfy queen size bed. Well appointed just off A1 in quiet area. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Had breakfast in room which was on time and top rate (except no ketchup). Second time here and will come again as excellent rate of £50 per room (excluding breakfast).
Beautiful area
This hotel was one of the best I have stayed in, yes i must admit it was on a conference from work and therefore was ideal for this occasion, very professional and very classic of the Marriott group. The surrounding areas of Gosforth, Seaton Burn, Wideopen etc are very select and therefore the class of people you meet when just outside the hotel in the surrounding pubs and shops is great. There was no hasstle and everyone was very friendly. We will always book our conferences there and I would stay there if passing through with my wife and family, anytime. Full Marks!!!!!
Perfect weekend break
The hotel has everything to offer in the way of a superb restaraunt, fully equiped leisure club, even a beauty salon. I have stayed at this hotel many times before. All of the staff are extremely pleasant and helpful, you always feel welcome. The food in the restaranut is amazing. The rooms are more than comfortable. I would reccomend spending more than one night here...
Not for a Romantic Weekend
If you are looking for a romantic weekend in a smart hotel with a quality restaurant then don't choose the Marriott Gosforth Park. Unfortunately the hotel is packed with conference guests even at weekends; my husband and I felt our hearts sink as we entered the restaurant to be confronted by other diners wearing T-shirts and jeans, with even the waiters looking more like bus conductors. There was no a la carte menu and the food was very average, although the wine was acceptable. We ordered creme brulees for dessert which were immediately sent back as they were cold with a rubbery top. The waiter asked us if we would like something different as they are bought in and the chef always gets them wrong!! This used to be a beautiful hotel with a charming cocktail bar and excellent restaurant. Unfortunately it has been completely ruined and for leisure guests has no ambience; we were due to stay for two nights but checked out after one.
