Hip and trendy boutique hotel
I stayed at this hotel for a mini-break away with my boyfriend. When we go away I always insist on staying in boutique hotels as I like to have a new experience every time I go somewhere different. The Grey Street Hotel did not disappoint in this factor; it was very trendy, set in old mansion buildings, with an instant feeling of glamour when you stepped into the doors. The reception is modern and the girl at the front was very friendly. It looked very small and cosy upon arrival, so when we were given our room number of 118, we were... more
Cool, gorgeous hotel
Booked Grey Street as a suprise for my ex-pat Geordie boyfriend's birthday. He has stayed in many a hotel in the city but said this was one of the best. Our room was gorgeous; spacious, immaculate and on the 5th floor which equalled a lovely view over the Tyne to Gateshead. Also as I booked early we received a complimentary bottle of champagne and a box of belgian chocolates. The staff were friendly, welcoming and even indulged BF in a bit of birthday banter. My one gripe would be that our complimentary chocs were mouldy, but a quick... more
Good location, comfortable, great breakfast
Stayed here for a weekend in early August 06. The cooked oats made by the Living Room (hotel restaurant) was heartening, particularly on a raining and windy day. Central location and very near the train station. Had a room facing the junction of Grey St and whatever it's called, i forgot. Anyway, it was good as we could see the ladies and men when dressed up for their hen or buck nights.
excellent location. very compact room.
the hotel has an absolutely perfect location. right by the station, shops, quayside and the best restaurants, cafes and bars. however, the room was very small. the room was all very nicely furnished, but it felt very compact. it was ok for our one night stay, but anything more than that would have led to claustraphobia. it also only came with a tincey amount of toiletries. plus there was a constant large droning noise outside our window (which you couldn't see out of). the hotel is a similar price to malmaison, malmaison is a... more
funky hip hotel
This hotel has a fabulous location in the centre of the city and a short walk to all sorts of great bars. My room was very luxurious, huge soft bed and the decor was well designed and modern. The bedroom was spacious and had nice details added eg: I recieved a complimentary easter egg which I found waiting for me on the desk. The hotel is very clean. The bathroom had a decent sized bath and lots of room to spread out in. I had great views of the streets below to people watch and it wasn't at all noisy. I was staying here by myself and felt... more
Disappointing - triumph of style over practicality.
While not wholly bad , a number of things spoil this hotel. Receptionist attitude was poor ('snooty'). Having to park some distance away at £1/hour for a 2 day stay is not good, particularly when you have to pay and display in advance, coins only. Our room was very poorly designed. Nowhere to put two suitcases and only 5 coat hangers for two people. Only seating was one 'pouffe' - where would two people sit to eat a room service meal? How would I work at a PC or on papers? When I asked receptionist she said they have business rooms.... more
Grey Street Hotel is an oasis of calm
Newcastle used to be my home city - so when I decided to pay a visit and show a couple of friends around the vibrant and exciting city that is repeatedly reinventing and regenerating itself, I wanted to be sure to pick a hotel that was chic modern stylish and gave a good vibe. I was a little unsure as to whether to choose the Grey Street as it was a hotel I had not either heard of or stayed in (but the deal was fantastic and the information on the hotels website was superb) but I decided to give it a go. Boy! I am so pleased that I did.... more
Nice little boutique style hotel
Stayed for a weekend in December 2005 with 2 girlfriends. No parking which is a bit of a downer, but they recommend a nearby carpark. Location of hotel is great, right in the middle of everything. Hotel lobby quite small and plain and our rooms were a little small but we were advised of this before our arrival and given a slightly reduced rate as we had a poor view. The rooms are decorated in a contemporary manner. Breakfast is next door at the Living Room which was lovely. Hotel staff polite and helpful.
Cracking Hotel - Your Bird will be well made up!
I booked this hotel as a surprise for my girlfriend - and she was not disappointed! The hotel is right in the middle of city, surrounded by trendy bars and only a 5 minute walk down the road to the Quayside. The hotel room was very modern and included a plasma tv (with some sky channels, no sky sports) and a dvd player. We stayed on the first floor and did not have any trouble with noise from the traffic below. Bathroom was very good and included the best shower I have ever had! Highly recommended!
A very funky hotel
I stayed two nights late in March 2006. The hotel is an easy 5 minute walk from the station and well located for shopping and access to the two universities, all within 10 minutes walk. The decor is modern, stylish and comfortable. The room was well sized and very well equipped. The room airconditioning was playing up and the staff were helpful in overcoming the slight inconvenience. Best of all were the two bars and the Living Room restaurant. The dining experience was exquisite with the best decor and atmosphere I have found anywhere,... more
