Thistle Newcastle Hotel

I stayed here for a stag party and it was perfect for this type of trip. Very central, comfortable rooms and clean. We did not have breakfast included but there are lots of places very close by to get good breakfast at cheap prices. Ideal after a night of drinking! I would also stay at this hotel if I was coming to Newcastle with my wife for a weekend break as it would be ideal for shopping, and nightlife.

I stayed here for one night at the end of December with my wife. The location is handy to say the least - right across from the main railway station and next to a Metro station. Other than that it's the grotty end of town, but there's a Starbucks next door and a Subway around the corner so you're not stuck for a coffee or a sandwich! Aside from its location opposite the main station, there is little to recommend this hotel. The public areas have received a makeover but the rooms are very tired as are the bathrooms. Poor fitting taps, mould on the walls and ceiling.... what can you say. Furthermore, I was unlucky enough to be there on a Saturday night when there was a function going on on the floor below me. I stayed at this hotel in late January. The hotel is centraly located in Newcastle just by the railway station, and it does also have a small, complimentary car park, which is tricky to find, but worth looking for! The reception staff were efficient and friendly, in fact we had no issues with any of the hotel staff, they were all OK. I booked a single room for £40 on the internet, the rack rate was £167. The hotel is right opposite the rail station so is handy from that point of view. Bedroom seemed small - a feeling accentuated by the fact that the window was fitted with frosted glass (presumably to block out the view of the unattractive light-well outside). The bedroom would have been seriously hot in the summer, with no aircon and just limited ventilation from the light-well. I stayed here after it was booked for a business trip. The reception staff were awful, the night porter very rude and the service and rooms shocking !! The parking is rubbish, the rooms small and in need of serious refurbishment. The night I stayed the chef went home early so no food and the bar was closed ?? The idiot behind reception wouldn't even supply me with a drink in my room. The Thistle Group have hotels across Britain and I've found them all Ok in the past but the Newcastle Hotel Stinks. Having first booked the hotel for an overnight stay and then reading the reviews, myself and my family were more than a little concerned that we had made the wrong choice, we didn't need to worry! We arrived to a very polite and friendly welcome the rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was out of this world, buffet style with everything you could want for breakfast!!! Cooked well, things which were meant to be hot were very hot and things which were meant to be cold were very cold. Overall a very enjoyable stay for us all!

Stayed for a week whilst working in Newcastle, and i am hard pressed to write anything positive about the place. Firstly the car park, its limited to 25 spaces and is locked once full, the hotel has no deals with nearby car parks so can be difficult to find somewhere to park (eventually found some street parking available nearby which is free between 6.30pm and 8am) . Hmm ... checked in at 8.15 on a Sunday night, reception staff not exactly full of the joys of spring and eager to please. Very snappy and surly ... I was given a single room the walls of which I could touch if I stood in the middle of the room and stretched my arms out. The bed was at a very strange angle and I couldn't work out why until I noticed that the wall nearest the bed shot off a similar angle. Watch the TV? hmm ...
