What an awful place! Where do I start? The rooms, dirty and old. I had a three night stay, the first night the duvet covers had stains on them (blood and semen). I complained about this and they were changed, to ripped duvets, oh well. The toilet then broke and would not... more

Musty you stay here??!!
On arrival at the hotel it looked lovely. We were greeted by a lounge area which was all warm and cosy. Checking in was not a problem however we had been allocated a double room instead of the requested triple. However the man at reception soon rearranged the booking. On opening to door to the room we were welcomed by a musty smelling room!! There was no denying it was suitably sized for us but the musty smell was at times boardering on overpowering!! Oh well we opened the window .... as far up as it would go! The room was well equiped with TV, hairdryer etc however there were only 2 cups and 2 sets of towels, not really satisfactory for our party so off to reception for an extra set!!! The sheets on the bed were clean however the bedspread appeared shabby and had no doubt seen better days!! On pulling back the covers of the bed I found long hair!! eww!! Oh well maybe I could look forward to a comfy bed but no, the matresses were very thin and the springs had clearly see a lot of action! The bathroom was well lit and appeared to be superficially clean however .. when you flushed the toilet the water sprayed all around the seat, the sink was embedded with dirt and the tiles in the shower needed a serious re grout! The paintwork was tired and the furniture shabby to say the least. They had tried to "update" the room with a modern sofa and light fittings however it didnt disguise the poor excuse for the wardrobe and dressing table!! Upon returning from our evening out we ordered food, a sandwich on brown bread. When it was devlivered (very promptly) it was on white bread and was literally a sandwich with a bit of salad. What happened to the crisps as stated on the menu?? All of us woke up in the night roasting hot and with the noise from the paper thin walls!!. There seemed no way of turning the heating in the room down!!! Even the window which slightly opened did not help so we all threw off the bedding and slept with just the sheet. I was glad to get up and go for breakfast. When we checked in we were advised of breakfast times and where it would be served. It was fine. The continental breakfast was lame however the english breakfast had no complaints off the hungry males! Check out was smooth enough however .. we were charged for breakfast and an astounding cost!! We were under the impression it was included, after all why would you be told what time breakfast was, where and to take the room ticket!! but no we were charged for it!!! The lady at reception said it was room only. Left with no choice it was paid for and we left the over heated musty room to the cool fresh air!!!
Terrible
We stayed at the hotel bank holiday weekend in May, we were booked to stay for two nights and left after one night. We were there half board so dinner and breakfast in the price of the room, and we didnt even stay to have breakfast. The room was so dirty we had to take the blanket of the bed as it smelt so bas. We had to lift the toliet seat up to close the bathroom door as it was so tight in the bathroom. The carpets were really dirty and the nets in the window looked like they had never been washed. The web site shows a really pretty building but does not show the side were most of the rooms are, it looks like a hostle type place. The walls were so thin were could listen to every word that was spoken in the room nest door to ours. When we got there we went into the bar before going to our room and had a couple of drinks, if I hadnt of had the drinks I would of even stayed there one night. We go away for weekends a lot and I have never stayed in a hotel so bad before!!!!!!!
Not the Worst, Not the Best
Stayed for a weekend with a coach tour on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. We picked the hotel for its location more than anything else. First impressions were reasonable - Tudor style building, some outdoor tables and grass. Pleasant enough place for some outdoor Summer drinking. Inside was also fair enough - sofas, chairs, bar tables etc. Possible a little wintry given the weather outside but can't expect them to change it into a conservatory for the short British Summer! Given there were 40 of us check in happened smoothly. Rooms were like the first impressions and the bar - average. Everything was functional but didn't exceed expectations. So so far not expecting excellence but still perfectly happy to spend 2 nights there. Dinner was ok. Soups seemed to be made from a packet of cup a soup and tasted the same both nights running! Portions were not large but 3 courses made it sufficient. Wine list was fine. Breakfast was nicer. Sausages and bacon were of good quality and fresh items brought out regularly. Service was attentive and prompt. We paid just over £100 per person for 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. This also included private coach hire. This was a reasonable price to stay in a reasonable hotel. I was more impressed by the places we visited but the hotel was practical enough for our purposes.
Excellent Hotel.
From the moment we arrived and walked into the comfortable lounge we were made to feel at home. The staff were very friendly, food and service excellent.
A thoroughly unpleasant stay
You get what you pay for? Not at The Chace... I stayed at The Chace for two nights in March, 2005. I was in Coventry for training, and wanted somewhere comfortable and calm to stay - somewhere that I could unwind from the high-pressure course that I was attending. From the pictures on the website, and the fact that I was paying a sizeable £93.00 a night, I expected The Chace to deliver a relaxing stay in relatively plush surroundings. What I got was a tatty room that put me in mind of university accommodation; an unsettled two-nights' sleep; and food that would give Jamie Oliver nightmares. Reception and the general ambiance: Upon arrival, I entered the reception lounge and my mood instantly deflated. I'd had high hopes, but what I saw was shabby looking. It also smelled. The strong smell of cigarette smoke was nauseating, but there was also another odd, sickly-sweet, stale odour that I couldn't quite identify. It wasn't pleasant, and turned my stomach. The reception contained a bar and many couches and tables, and was probably quite nice at one time, but was now worn-looking and didn't give a good first impression. As a non-smoker, I rushed through the reception area a quickly as possible, holding my breath all the way. However, the desk staff were lovely; they were friendly and polite as I checked in. The room: I was assigned a ground-floor room. It was huge, and had two beds: a single and a double. But again, it was shabby looking, and had that over-painted, layer-upon-layer of paint look; the throw on my bed was cheap-looking and ink-stained, and even the hotel literature and stationery were tatty and creased. It was overwhelmingly hot, and I couldn't see any way of turning down the heat, which meant that I slept fitfully. On the second night, the hotel was busy with a party of young people. The walls, and particularly the ceiling, were paper-thin. I could hear every foot-step and word spoken by the people upstairs, and drunken conversations in the corridor outside my room sounded as though they were taking place right next to my bed. Although the bed was comfortable, it was simply too loud to sleep, and so I remained awake until their partying ended. If nothing else, a hotel should offer its guests a good night's sleep. I'm no party pooper, and love to see people having fun, but I'd travelled miles to attend an expensive, intensive training course, and found it difficult to concentrate the next day because of the late-night partying of the other guests. A bit of soundproofing wouldn't go amiss. It was like my student days re-lived. The bathroom was a small, spartan, white box of a room. Although superficially clean, its worn decor gave the impression that it was dirty. The grouting between the tiles was all discoloured and mildewed; the mirror had seen better days; and to top it all, a metal soap-dish fell from the wall as I showered, bruising my foot. However, the shower was hot and the pressure good, the bath filled quickly, and the towels were clean and crisp, but nevertheless, bathrooms should be a place of luxury - not somewhere you feel you have to rush in and out of. Shamefully bad room service: The room service was pricy, unpalatable, and without a smile. On the second night, I returned from training ready for a hearty meal. Being a woman alone, I didn't fancy the idea of a table-for-one in the restaurant, and so decided to opt for dinner in my room whilst watching TV. The room-service literature said that service was available from 18:30 onwards; I called at 18:30, only to be told that the restaurant was busy with a party of people that night, and as a result room service was only being offered from 20:00 onwards. I found this annoying: if they offer a service, then it should be consistent, regardless of how busy the restaurant is. I felt like a second-class customer. I asked if they'd take my order now, and deliver my food after 20:00, but was told no, that I'd have to call back later. No apologies were given. By 20:00 I was ravenous; I called room service only to be told that the restaurant was very busy, and that if I ordered room service it would take, "a long, long time" to arrive. I said that it didn't matter, that I still wanted the food. They sighed, and in an irritable tone said, "well do you want to call back later?" I said that I didn't, and that I'd give my order and wait. The food eventually turned up at around 21:00. For approximately £10.00, I'd expected more than lukewarm packet pasta in a non-descript white sauce. The fruit salad cost approximately £3.00 - £4.00, and consisted of chopped, grainy apple, tinned grapefruit and tinned mandarin. The fruit salad came without cutlery, so I had to wash my dinner fork in the bathroom sink and use that. Hardly worth the wait. Disappointing breakfast: On the first morning, I selected the breakfast-in-bed option. This was delivered to my room on a tray, and comprised of three mini (and I mean mini) croissants, a yoghurt, a cup of tea and a small glass of orange. I'm quite a petite person, and don't need much to keep my body ticking over, but this offering barely made a dint on my hunger, and my stomach rumbled until lunch. On the second morning, I braved the dining room. Although the breakfast choice was slightly more varied, it was still unimaginative. I am a vegetarian, and therefore their hearty fry-up was off bounds to me. In an ideal world, hotels would offer veggie fry-ups too, but most don't. However, if they also offer a substantial continental breakfast, then I'm more than happy. The Chace's continental breakfast was sub-standard. It consisted of: cartons of yoghurt; mini boxes of cereal; tinned fruit and microscopic pastries, with juice and tea or coffee. To summarise - this hotel's ambiance is just awful: it smells weird; the rooms aren't welcoming or relaxing; the food is downright disgusting. Staff were generally nice, but on occasion surly and unhelpful. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
Don't bother!!!!
The breakfast was extremely over priced and rather disgusting. Lousy service. The room had cobwebs. The double room only had 1 bath towel. Just a rip off.
