I went on a weeks holiday to the Stonehouse with my partner & my 8 yr old daughter. The accommodation was excellent & the surroundings superb. The views from the large terrace out to the coast were breathtaking. To sit there having breakfast was lovely.
You could hear the sound of cockerels in the morning (not close enough to be annoying!) & see people working on some terraces down the hillside. It was isolated, with the towns of Caldas De Monchique (down below) & Monchique, being a short drive away. The maid lived about 100yds away, & was very helpful, though her English was as good as our fairly non-existent Portuguese.
We travelled to the near deserted beaches on the west coast (Monte Clerigo, Arrifana) where there were some very good seafood restaurants. There were good restaurants down the hillside (Maximino being one) & a bit further (15 mins) cacador, a game restaurant. The local honey & oranges were very good.
The pool was cold due to the time of year & the fact that it did not get full sun due to the lovely pine trees. The best view is from the single bedroom on the top floor. It was a lovely relaxing holiday, & to hear my daughter say, "what a lovely view" while sitting on the terrace for breakfast about said it all. A car is necessary. Fantastic holiday.
