Holiday Inn Coventry South

i needed an overnight stay in Coventry as my daughter had an appointment to visit the university so i booked a family room at the holiday inn which is about a 20 minute drive from the city centre. What excellent value it was .. £40 for the room & breakfasts; a large spacious family room with 2 queen beds ......... New modern building with bar & resturant & in the morning an excellent chioce of either cooked or continenal breakfast, plenty of car parking & on a direct route into the city .. Stayed here for three nights, and it was really quite pleasent. The food was fantastic and the staff were friendly. Thought that the phone calls and internet costs were a bit steep. The bathroom was nice, and loads of hot water. I used the room service, and it was prompt and of good quality, the waiter vanished before I had chance to leave a tip. Pleanty of security on the car park, and felt safe, comfortable and best of all free. Had a great sleep every night, and the hotel is really peaceful. There was good tea... more

Hotel facilities ok - although the gym is moor like a broom cupboard. staff service poor - attitude seemed ok, but there were very few. no staff around at breakfast resulting in self service! no staff on heckout - even at 7am - just a phone with a notice telling you to ring "0". when you ring "0" - no one picks up.

Stayed here for 1 night whilst on business and thank goodness it was only for one night. The hotel is void of character, atmosphere and in need of a serious make over. Our stay got of to a bad start when at check in I was told there was no record of my booking. Reluctantly the hotel later 'apologised' for their error but this merely set the tone for my short visit. Put my parents up here on a Saturday night, never again. Kept up all night by guests from the wedding party, banging doors, running riot on the fire escape, being verbal and knocking on their door. Staff seemed incapable of ensuring a comfortable night stay by ceasing this despicable, loutish behavior on behalf of other hotel guests. They weren't even offered an apology or a reduction in room charge for the inconvience suffered. Aviod this hotel at all costs.

Booked a double room direct on the website for £42 a night .- Spacious clean room, with good bathroom and comfortable large bed. Didn't use any hotel facilities as it was just an overnight stop -but found the night staff to be very helpful. Overall great value for money.

Booked well in advance and asked for a non-smoking room which I didn't get as they said the hotel was full. What's the point in booking a non-smoking room in advance if they can't deliver? It was too late to go and find another hotel at that point. The room smelled of smoke and after two nights so did my clothes. The restaurant is a total rip off. £2.90 for a pint of Lemonade. I could have got 2 litres of the same thing from Tesco for under 50p! It was a fiver (£5) for the tiniest Mackerel and Crab starter which got the meal off to a... more
