Poor Hotel
I spent 2 nights at the Brittania and found it a poor experience. Check-in was fine, check-out was fine. In-between wasn't so good. The location is quite central, I was attending a convention in the Leofric that was overbooked, so stayed here instead. The staff were pleasant enough, the hotel has an old feel to it, but the room was pretty shoddy. The sheets hadn't been cleaned properly, there were obvious stains. The room had a bad smell, there was mould growing in the bath area, the bathroom just had an unclean look to it, and the... more
Outdated but okay
I stayed here as part of a school trip last April. I read reviews and I was not looking forward to what was ahead. When we arrived after travelling from 3 in the morning the night before til about 4 in the day, we just wanted to get to our rooms and relax. We all had big suitcases so we had to take the lift but once we got into it it wouldn't work properly. The room was quite spacious but very stuffy and we couldn' t open the window. The food was of poor taste and poor selection. But other then that this hotel is suitable to stay in, as long... more
A Scruffy Hotel
We stayed for one night on a trip to the British Grand Prix. I am so glad that it was only one night. The desk staff were fine and helpful. I think that the main problem is with cleanliness. The room and bathroom were very poorly cleaned and maintained. The lift was straight from a sink estate, grubby with a carpet that had never seen a vacuum. The ambience in the dining room for breakfast was quite nice. Then we found that the cereal milk was sour! This should not be 3 star it should be a very cheap student hotel - Or they should... more
Stayed here with a group of students.
THe hotel desk staff were very helpful to students trying to get in touch with relatives. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were also clean with plenty of towels for all. Food in restaurant was buffet style which suited my 31 people! Students were never turned away. There was a choice of three different meats etc. for dinner. Breakfast buffet was large and good. Only drawback was a very smoky bar which allowed students in, but luckily did not serve any alcohol to them. I would be happy to stay in this hotel again myself or with my groups.... more
would noy recommend staying here
This hotel is in need of modernisation. Hotel is scruffy. Blankets on bed were stained and toilet would not flush in our bathroom. Had to get up and get dressed to use toilet facilities on ground floor. Hot water was dangerously hot and bathroom was dirty. Lunch and evening meal was awful and breakfast was poor. The worst hotel i have ever stayed in.
Management response from PaulFoxon

Dear All Trip Advisor Viewers, Thank you for taking the time to place both your negative and positive feedback on this site. We do value your comments and we feel the need to write this response to you all. We have recently had some major changes in the management structure at the Britannia Hotel Coventry; we have New General Manager Heather Thomas, a New Deputy General Manager, Mark England and New Sales Manager Paul Foxon. We all have a shared vision, to improve and inspire the present team, to create a calm, relaxed working environment. Our main objectives and goals for the rest of 2007 are to maximise, guest comfort and services within the Hotel, to a standard that we can both all be Professionally and personally be proud of. We are currently undergoing a major refurbishment, starting on our bedroom suites, of which some of the rooms are complete, we are currently in the process of working our way to the public area’s, Bars, Restaurant, function suites. Our external area’s, our balcony’s, Patio areas are also having a make over. We ensure a pleasant, warm, inviting feel to the hotel; it will be the place to enjoy a bottle of wine with friends in the summer sun. We will hopefully be finished the refurbishment in Spring 2008, and we will have a hotel that stands out from the rest in relation to the products and services that we provide to our guests. Once again thank you for your comments.

Absolutely awful!!!!!
Never in my life have I had the misfortune to stay in such an awful accomodation. Upon arrival one is greeted by a grotesque, grey building. The dirt on the outside of the walls is a sneak preview of the horrors that lie within. After check in I ascended to the seventh floor in a filthy lift. The temperature in the hotel dropped so low that I thought I'd actually climbed Everest, but I'm sure the summit of Everest has better facilities. My room was quite frankly awful. A mish-mash of furniture and one solitary heater that would... more
Despicably Overpriced/Abysmal Restaurant
On a business trip, my colleague and I were transferred to this hotel after a power cut in our original choice of destination. Nice lobby area gives false impression of the element of glamour so sadly missing from this place. Rooms were far from 2-star standard, never mind 3. Shower in room was terrible. Worst part was the restaurant both for breakfast and dinner which we only chanced once. An "overpriced carvary" is how I would describe it. We were charged £85 per room per night which is extortionate by any... more
Leaves a lot to be desired
First room we were allocated had the bath panels lying inside the bath along with 2 filthy hand towels .There was no toilet paper or any clean towels .On complaining we were allocated another room (no apologies were given ) This room had only one bath and hand towel between two,the electric kettle didnt work .On complaining once again (still no apologies ) there was another kettle left in the room (along with the broken one ).We stayed in the hotel for three nights and the reception staff never once acknowledged you when you passed. The view... more
good, but dont go during re-decoration
stayed just before christmas (special treat) Reception staff friendly and efficient as was all the staff. Carparking was a problem. Dinner and breakfast were ok. Bedroom was well decorated and fresh looking although the view was not pretty. maintenance (painters ?) were rude and un helpful when my wife got paint on her coat (no wet paint signs). other than that, we would stay again Mr mrs Smith (not real name)
