Great for a short break
from Sarah1984
I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend back in July this year. We both live in the suburbs of Liverpool and were just staying so as to avoid having to hang around waiting for a taxi home after a night out for my birthday. A double room with en-suite only cost £50, which between us worked out very cheaply indeed. The staff on reception were polite and efficient. The room was small but very clean, as was the bathroom. I imagine the smallness of the room would be a pain for someone on their holiday in Liverpool but, for a one-night stay (all we needed was to rest our heads and have a wash) it was fine. My only complaint was the lack of air conditioning in the room. Our stay coincided with one of the hottest weekends we saw over the summer and it made the room quite stuffy while we were getting ready to leave the next morning. I probably wouldn't recommend the Campanile to someone with a lot of luggage or someone who intends to spend a lot of time in their hotel room, but if you just want a base to sleep and wash it's great. Oh, and if you choose to eat the breakfast there and the weather's good, sit out on the terrace. The view over the Mersey is lovely!
Change the manager!

We stayed at the Campanile during the Mathew Street Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend 2006. The rooms are a little tired looking. After the room was cleaned they only left us with one towel and one pillow. I reported this at about 8pm to the British manager who told me it was too late to do anything and to come back the next day!!! We tried to book for the same time next year. The manager told us he didn't know when the Bank Holiday weekend would be! I asked him to book me the last weekend in August. He then said it might not be that weekend. Then he said he would have to charge me a surcharge. I asked why and he said it was the Bank Holiday. I told him he didn't know when it was! I asked him how much it would be and he said maybe £75 or £85 or even more as the prices had not been set. He then told me that I should not have had my room for £65...however I booked it a year in advance. In the end I told him to forget it and I would book at another hotel where they were more interested in my custom. The hotel is a long way out from the city centre and attractions. There are far better and cheaper hotels than this. The French staff are more helpful.
not happy jan!

where do I start? the reception staff were rude. the room was tiny and when you flushed the toilet water bubbled up into the shower. This is also happened when other guests flushed their toilets consiquently i got no sleep at all made worse by the fact the walls are so thing and i could hear neighbours slamming doors all night and making a raquet. Mentioned all of this to a blonde girl on reception upon check out was very apologetic but did nothing to make up for it. Would not stay in this hotel again if you paid me!

Acceptable adequate accommodation
from Maxzorin
Stayed in the hotel on two occasions for single nights. Situated by the Albert Dock ,car parking on site without charge. Quick efficient checking in facility. Hotel rooms in separate block with rooms on three floors. Newish hotel and rooms were clean, airy and fresh. Basic facilities, but more than adequate for short trips. Would not wish to spend more than 1 or 2 nights in this type of hotel. Bar and breakfast facilties on site and a casino is next door. Staff welcoming and friendly.
One sweet dream

We (2 people) spent 3 nights there and never regretted our stay. Not the friendliest personnel on Earth but breakfasts were good and the room was very clean and spacious (and so was the bed for two) with a great bathroom. That's why I don't quite understand some reviews talking about a "disaster" !?????? Definitely the best hotel I ever slept at !
Good value ... But
from Bantam Visitor
Campanile's are great value for money with nice clean rooms and a good value breakfast. The Campanile in Liverpool also has the advantage of a great location on the dock side near the city centre. We had some problems howver that, if addressed by the hotel could easily improve the quality of the stay. On arrival, our group of 4 were told that our booking (made through an agent) had been canceled that day as we had rung the hotel. This was clearly not correct, and fortunately the hotel still had 4 free rooms, but it could have been a disaster. Ring ahead and check your reservation if you are staying here. Secondly, breakfast is a bit of a muddle. Guests have the choice of the Continental or Full English breakfast (both the same price). Whenever I have stayed in Campanile's in France, you are greeted when you go into breakfast and your order taken at the table. Here, there was no one to greet you and some people seemed to order breakfast at their tables, some went to the bar to order them. As a result the breakfasts came out of order. Overall, this was still very good value for money and clean - so not a disaster and I will still go to Campaniles, but things could be improved.
excellent budget hotel, great staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
i was on business and stayed for 3 nights in late june. my only two concerns was could not book via the internet and i had to change rooms as the window would not lock. having said that, i moved rooms easily. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, but have to have a special mention to the resturant staff, really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and the location excellent. All in all if you are looking for a budget hotel but better than the usual travelodges, i would recommend this one

I had booked this hotel over the internet 2 months before we were to arrive as it looked like an ideal place to stay. We arrived at the hotel at 10am friday the 23rd June. We knew we could not check in but wanted to leave our bags in. The lady at the front desk informed us that their hotel policy that they could not take our luggage which was fair enough. She told us that if we came back at 2pm she would be happy to check us in. We went off shopping for the day and arrived back to the hotel at 3.30pm. There was a man on reception desk. I told him we had four double rooms booked under my name for two nights and that we would all be paying cash as we all did not hav credit cards. He told us that he need a credit card per room for identification purposes. We explained that we would pay a cash deposit and he could take a print out of our pass ports. He was having non of this. He asked me was I deaf that he asked for a credit card per room not a passport and he would not take a visa card even though it states on the wed site that they take visa cards. We asked if he could take a pre auth off one credit card plus the cash deposit as well as paying for the four rooms up front and again I was asked if I was deaf. I asked to speak to the manager but was told no that he was dealing with us. I have worked in a hotel for seven years and have never in my life come across any one so rude. I just could not believe it. This man obviously has no customer relation skills and is in the wrong industy. If you are going to Liverpool believe me there are alot better hotels to stay in.
Worst reception ever
from A TripAdvisor Member
When we arrived were told check inn is not till 2. Left us with no were to leave our bags so had to carry them around with us until check in time. when we returned that afternoon to check in we were met by the most ignorant receptionist who was unwelcoming and told us he required a visa card from each person per room as a safety deposit and one card would not be acceptable to cover all rooms. He said it states this on the internet, which it doesn't, and its our own fault and there was nothing else he could do. He wouldn't even except a lazer card or cash or even our passport. When asked to show us on the web page where it says all this he refused and became very irate. At this stage we decided to look elsewere and booked into the Thistle up the rd which was fabalous and going for the same price were the staff were more than welcoming and helpful as you would expect. we later met some guest who were staying in the campanile who said they were allowed use one credit card for all the rooms when they booked in with the girl on reception. It seems the man on the front desk makes up his own rules and should find a job he likes. How he's allowed to work there is beyond believe, especially at reception which is were you'd expect staff with good customer care.

This hotel is an absolute joke! The woman on the front desk did not have a clue how to use her computer properly as a result she never found our rooms she found one of them. The rooms were small, the bathroom smelt of urine, the window was broken - the bottom latch was... more
