Stayed with the wife for one night while up seeing friends. Stayed at Holiday Inn Expresses before and they are the sort of functional cheapish hotel that most travellers are familiar with these days. No frills just good accommodation. The rooms are quite large and the... more

Having read some of the reviews on this site, I thought this would be a great place to stay whilst on business in Liverpool. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. Check In: 1/10 - Despite having confirmation of booking, I was told that I had no reservation. After 10... more

There's better for less
I paid £110 for a one night stay at this hotel for my husband's birthday. We often book the Ibis or similar on nights out in Liverpool so we can enjoy ourselves and not worry about cabs home to the outskirts. This time I wanted something a bit more upmarket. The Holiday Inn Express is twice the price of the usual 'budget' chains, but in no way twice as good. I frankly thought we could have stayed at something like the Radisson for a few pounds more. There was nothing particularly wrong with it but I thought it was far too basic for the money.
Comfortable & Convenient
We stayed at this hotel between 26th and 28th August 2006. We chose this hotel because it was one of the few we could find available for the dates we wanted. We had previously stayed at another Holiday Inn Express and enjoyed our stay. We had also read good reviews about this hotel on the TripAdvisor website. We booked a double en-suite room for two nights. It was of adequate size. It facilities included a sofa bed, a place to hang clothes (not really a wardrobe because it had no door), a shower (without a curtain), tea/coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and a TV. We found the room to be very clean and comfortable. It was on the fourth floor. The best thing about it was its exceptionally good view of Albert Dock. The room rate included continental buffet breakfast. It was basic but of satisfactory quality. The hotel was busy. Our check-out took time because there were several people in front of us and only one receptionist. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. This hotel is more suitable for short stays. From this hotel it is easy to get to Liverpool’s main tourist attractions and the view of the Albert Dock from some of its rooms is fantastic. The worse thing about our stay was its cost. We stayed during the August Bank Holiday and this hotel had increased its rate for a double room to £100 per night. (Most other hotels had put up their rates too.) We understand that it is normally possible to get a double room at this hotel for less than £70. At that price it would certainly be worth it.
Serious noise problem
This hotel looks great from the outside and is well maintained inside and the location is great. BUT beware the hotel has a very serious noise problem, rooms are badly constructed and noise from neighbouring rooms is clearly audible. To the point that I could hear every word said in the next room- that also meant every cough etc I leave the rest to your imagination. It did not make for a comfortable stay. When I complained I was told the hotel was fully booked and I could not be moved nor would it make much difference as all the rooms were similar due to the fact it was a “listed building.” Although the staff did give me a discount the next day, I would not stay at this hotel again for any price.
Highly Recommended
My wife and I stayed for one night on Sunday 16th. July 2006. Checked in early 12.00 midday, room ready, very friendly staff. Room good size, shower spacious but sprayed onto the floor as well as me. Only a little bit though! Really great view of the Albert Dock, fantastic value and standard. We paid 59.00 for the room B & B. About 15 minute walk to city centre, no problems at all.Had a lovely meal in the evening at BELLA ITALIA in the city centre.Busy lively atmosphere, see the Liver Building at night, all lit up, very good. GOOD ADVICE: Don`t park in the car park by the hotel, as it is more expensive and is chargeable from 8 a.m. People were getting tickets before they got up !!! Park in the car park across a little footbridge, about a hundred yards away. Cheaper and free from 6pm to 9am. If you buy a ticket after 6pm, the time on it starts from 9am the following day.Saves you getting up early. Hope this makes sense. Highly recommend the hotel and we will stay again.
Fantastic location and building
This hotel scores an excellent rating from me because I always think I know what to expect from a Holiday Inn Express. This hotel exceeded all those expectations providing a level of service one could expect from a much higher priced hotel. In a converted Albert Dock warehouse the location was ideal for the romantic weekend break we were planning. The building itself was also superb, with a very sympathetic conversion having been created. Our room had a great view over one of the dock basins (complete with the round the world yacht race entrants). The room itself had lots of exposed brickwork and was very spacious, none of the character of the original warehouse seeming to have been lost. Ideally situated for the river, the clubs/pubs/restaurants of the Albert Dock and the City Centre, all within easy walking, this really is a superb location. The (buffet) breakfast wasn't bad either. If you would normally dismiss Holiday Inn Express' as perhaps a midweek business traveller type location then think again, in this case anyway. Highly recommended.
Ideal & convenient location
Everything we could wish for; the architecture is amazing, the brekfasts are great and dispite the building work opposite, the hotel is really convenient.
Great for Weekdays
This is a great hotel in a superb location with plenty of restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity. The hotel and rooms were very clean, comfortable and spacious. Check-in was swift and easy with very friendly and courteous staff. The rooms were interesting with the original architecture of the building being tastefully displayed. The Express breakfast was adequate (as usual), however did think that the bar was a bit over priced. We had very strong winds during our stay and the wind whistled around the windows. Also, the corridor floors were very creaky and echoed, so this may be a problem at the weekend if there are lots of stag/hen parties! Would recommend this hotel and would return again!
Great location, great stay
Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, Albert Dock in the holiday period as part of a group of 8. Incorporated into the old warehouses the rooms are big and retain the original brick and ironwork features, rather unlike the normal functional but bland hotels of its genre. Ok, no trouser press and mini bars but at £69 per room incl Continental breakfast it was a bargain. Freezing cold outside but rooms and public areas nice and warm as were the attitudes of the staff. Even passing the maids on the stairs brought a smile and a hello. No noise or rowdiness experienced at any time. Night time security is evident; no sneaking past the chap on the door late at night if you are not a guest! Beware parking though. You can park right outside the hotel for up to £9 per day (free 6pm to 9am) but if you don't get up to put a new ticket on your windscreen in the morning the clampers will have you at cost! All of our rooms faced water (either the river or across the inner dock). There is a lot of building work going on nearby so some of the views will not be so spectacular for a couple of years. Ask for an inner dock room. A great location with great staff and an all round great stay.
great place to stay in liverpool
Stayed one night with my wife. What a great location!. Spacious room overlooking the Albert Dock. The hotel has plenty of character and retains many features of the original building. Spacious bar area where one can order late night takeaways ( pizza, curries etc,) Good buffet breakfast included in room rate. We booked direct with the hotel and saved £20 on advertised web site rate. It turned out to be great value for a Saturday night and the location. It is a good 25-30 min walk to station but only £4 in a taxi. Plenty of attractions on your doorstep- Beatles story Tate modern, Maritime Museum and the Mersey Ferries. Also plenty of bars and cafes. Highly recommended.
Great location - with caveats
Nice clean hotel located in the Albert Dock, by the River Mersey. Unlike the rantings of the person who gave it 1 star, my wife and I and relatives found it extremely quiet. Reasonably priced (£68 per night, weekday) and close to the city centre. Warning though. There's no hotel car park and you have to pay in the nearby one between 09.00-18.00. No wireless internet either, which I found surprising. Images of Liverpool can be found at liverpoolpictorial.
