Chilworth Manor Classic Hotel

Wonderful main building and location in a huge park, but still close to the centre of Southampton. Staff lacked that little extra friendliness which you frequently find in the U.K. Room ok, good bed, but bathroom showed signs of wear. A wonderful and centrally placed lounge and bar had very comfortable furniture and light meals. Breakfast was very good.

We attended a wedding in November booking a double room. One night cost us almost £160 for bed and breakfast. The room itself was no better than the level you would expect from a travel lodge which perhaps reflects that the place used to be used for student accommodation. Use of the phone in the room was prohibitively expensive (I think it may have been £2.47/minute to call a mobile). I visited Chilworth Manor we had a meal which was pleasant enough I did like the Desserts. But the kitchen staff are something else, you sit in the dinning room and can hear the bullying and swearing,I did enquire about the kitchen staff and was told that they were all new and from the De Vere , so its not surprising ,aparantly only one origanal is still there the pastry chef ,which I'm told is the one being bullyed by the new staff,not a pleasant place to be,the hotel used to be nice, kitchen and staff in general were pleasant , but not any... more

The food was nice I did like the dessert,the bad language coming from the kitchen was disturbing, its what really amounts to bullying.It sounded like some young woman was getting the bullying aimed at her. The management wants to stop that, it can be heard in the dinning area.,it was very disturbing England has a bad name for that sort of thing in that business but to hear it was another thing .I did mention it to a trade union official and he said it was againts the law.As for the hotel it was very nice .But needs to stop the... more
